We need money to fund the transfers. Lingard after VdB will definitely not make the bench. So best for him and club to leave. What strange is we have not even set a price on him, perriera or mata.

I agree that he was not at his best in recent times and we all know that even at his best he could be our squad player at best.
I feel he got lot of abuse he didnt deserve as there were many other players cost us a lot and dint do what Jesse did in last 5 years, At the end of the day he is our boy came from academy, didnt cost much for us and even he scored few important goals for us

I am not saying Jesse should say but atleast he doesnt deserve any more slating from us, He comes across a player like Depay perform well at other clubs so its better for Jesse career if he moves on but if he stays as a squad player I still think he can offer something better than James/Mata.

Contract expires 2021 with option of a further year.

Hmm, I wonder what the reaction on here will be this winter when we activate the +1 clause.

I'm tired of abusing Lingard. I am predicting this season as the year when he finally starts putting in decent performances. I suspect he benefits playing in front of an empty stadium, his confidence doesn't get shot from the abuse. He will turn into a decent back up option. And looking at our packed calendar, we'll need players who know the team, the coaches and don't need to be bed in.

If he doesn't leave now it will 100% get activated because, unless he'd just broken his leg, not activating it would just be pissing money away. He's bad, but he's not zero transfer fee from any club in the world bad.

Ole didn't even pick him on the bench most of the time after lockdown, even though Bruno, Rashford and Pogba were literally half dead towards the final few games. He ain't gonna get near the pitch with Donny coming in and potentially Sancho. He's genuinely below Dan James in the pecking order now.

I hear the reason Dortmund are not accepting the Sancho bid is because we’re insisting in including Lingard in the deal. €120m plus Lingard. They just want the €120m.

Lingard is worth 700 million though just like Messis buy out clause. No way we are going to sell him for less.

Very hard to shift a player on those wages who struggled to register an assist or goal in 18 months. That lack of productivity is hardly going to attract even sides at the bottom of the league who really need the opposite

That is working great with Jones.

Lingard won us cups. Guy should be proud & we should be a bit respectful of him sometimes instead of bashing him every chance we get. He can hear us you know - it may seem like these players are older than us but they are significantly younger and consistently on social media. Hopefully he can continue to win a cup for us - if not here then somewhere else.

True enough.

Big difference though is that 4 years on 75k gave Jones an absolutely ridiculous level of security despite him being the most injury prone player in Prem history. No other club would have or will offer him anything but a pay-as-you-play deal. He'd be absolutely mad to walk away from the terms we gave him.

1 extra year for Lingard at 75-100k (whatever he's actually on) isn't gonna stop clubs putting bids in. He's not injury prone. And the extra year doesn't give him any real security in his football career, because he's at that age now where his next contract will be the 'final hurrah'. He can't really afford to tread water for an extra year at United not getting any minutes and going out of contract in the 2022 summer.

I think we have to, so that we can get any transfer fee.
Angling for a transfer fee for every single player is how we end up straddled with so much deadweight for so many years. We need to normalize letting our crap players go for free rather than trying to eke out a transfer fee and ending up being stuck with them, which has happened with every single one of our deadweight players. We haven't managed to get a transfer fee for any of them.

This show the mentality of Lingard, Even though he knows he will not get many game time and may not even be make it to the bench most of PL games but still is willing to stick around and piss away his career.

And this goes for all our deadwoods.

He's pulling in a shit ton of money each week, that's what it speaks to.

He will still pull shit ton of money at another club maybe not as much but alot of money.

You must have ambition and belief in your ability to seek new surrounding to get out of the rot he is stuck especially with Euro coming up. But he still here trying to win lost battle.

I’ve had enough of the manager harbouring nothing players with a bad attitude. If Ole can’t rid the squad of these bad apples then he should go. Ole out.

I don’t know what Ole sees in him as a footballer. I understand he appreciates a bubbly personality, but by now Ole HAS to be aware that if he ends up having to pick Lingard for a good number of games, his own job will be at risk and he will age another ten years under the pressure of being a MUFC manager. The job is about winning, and it’s difficult to do that with one hand tied behind your Lindback.

Ole can just not play such players, what can he do beyond it if no club is interested in buying the player. His only mistake was to give Jones an extended contract.

I think it's rather telling that we received no bids for him (I don't buy the wages excuse in this particular case, hes simply not wanted by any other club).

If the club decides to extend him (even if its in the futile hope of getting a good transfer fee for him) imo it displays a fundamental lack of understanding of getting rid of deadwood in the squad at all costs.

It was explained very clearly yesterday by the guy from the Athletic who has close ties with Ole. No one wants these players because of the wages they are on, and these players wont consider a drop in wages. If you want to lay the blame at anyone's door direct it to Ed for sanctioning ludicrous contracts for meidocre players. Jones has a contract to 2023 ffs

Manchester Utd never lose, just run out of time

Staying for one season and fighting for his spot is fine. I'm sure he knows he played like shit last season so he may be backing himself to get back into form and at least get plenty of matches off the bench. I won't blame him for that even if in a perfect world I'd prefer to sell him and use that money towards someone that might end up providing more.

However if he doesn't get many matches this season and he still doesn't show any interest in leaving after that then your post will be accurate.

He won't have an option if the club doesn't extend his contract.
