I really really like Thiago on some levels but on others it makes no sense considering the DVB signing.

For instance DVB looks technically excellent and a guy who will speed up the game. Also seems a much more disciplined player than Bruno in the sense that he takes care of possession. Having someone like Thiago controlling play behind and feeding them to take risks further up the pitch strikes me as a great balance.

HOWEVER it also might present a tactical problem with the 4-3-3 as Thiago would need a top DM (which we don't really have) to sit with him and that means Bruno, Pogba, DVB would all be competing for their preferred position as the most forward midfielder. Its great to have depth but this seems extreme.

Thiago-Pogba-Bruno/DVB the balance doesn't seem right. Too many artists and not enough bricklayers. Now we could do Thiago-Matic-Bruno/Pogba/DVB but that will cause issues as I mentioned.

Now some posters have seen this for a while and wanted to jettison players and radically reshape the squad i.e. Thiago-Partey-Bruno/DVB with Matic as cover

This means getting rid of Pogba. Amazing talent but tactically it means we are reliant on him either doing the Thiago role (his present role), or playing more defensive to accommodate a DLP.

Despite all the waffle I think the club feel that DVB might be the Ace In The Hole. He looked very composed on the ball the other night and the coaches might be thinking that he could perhaps fill in for EITHER Bruno or Pogba. So either playing deep or in an advanced role. Will be interesting to watch.

Quite clearly you are biding your time until deadline day
You’re probably right. Would just really like for us to get it done instead of risk him going elsewhere. And tbh, and I know this sounds spoilt considering we just won the league, but I miss getting excited about a transfer.

It’s not spoilt, after winning the league you should always be looking to improve.

This is literally true. The number of headlines they publish in the summer claiming three month long heat waves and the like is bizarre.
It's so embarrassing. I'm pretty sure someone researched the company they claim 'predicts' all this stuff and its just some guy in a flat, not even a registered company. We'll be into 'Killer Freeze on way!!!' headline season very soon :wenger:

He won't want to go anywhere else

Insanity is doing the same thing expecting different results isn’t it? Why are we still talking about this guy 4 years later?
Like it or not, Scott, Fred, Matic, Pogba, Bruno, VDB is all you need for a midfield 3. Adding one more talented midfielder to the mix will just suffocate chances to the point of demoralization. There’s a fine balance between ‘compete for positions’ and being a complete reserve player.
Spend the money on a RW. We do not have a single RW. James is playground player pretending to be a premier league player

They'll be waiting a long time...I'd tell em not to hold their breath
If they held their breath waiting for us to make a bid even their kits would turn blue.

This rumour, of all the rumours, makes by far the least sense. I can't believe how many seem to believe it.

Is it too childish of me to think that we should try and bid for him anyway. If we sign him then so be it, if we don't then At least Liverpool will not get a discount on a great player.

Said it before, but if us getting used means Liverpool pay more then please Bayern use us.

Thiago is one that will go into the last week.

Barca wants to buy Wijnaldum but has no money.

Liverpool wants to buy Thiago but Klopp also wants to keep Wijnaldum but has no money to do both.

Wijnaldum wants to stay at Liverpool ideally.

Thiago wants to move to Liverpool and does not want to extend his contract at Bayern.

Bayern wants to sell Thiago if he doesn't extend his contract, and would like United to bid.

Crazy standoff haha. There is a small chance that come Oct 1, and if he is still on the market and willing to move to United, we go in with a €25m bid. There is no point to do anything else while this silly standoff continues.

No brainer of a signing for me, especially at the prices being quoted. Would improve our midfield overall to a great extent and also means the quality in depth would be much better with a great selection of midfielders to choose from. This season is going to be mental with the fixtures coming thick and fast so to have quality like Thiago in the side would be a great help.

Just fecking sign him. Cheap as hell and one of the very best midfielders around. Absolute no brainer.

It does seem extremely weird that somebody so good is not being chased by everybody? I assume he's asking for insane wages like 250/300k a week.

I'm not even sure how he would fit in at United without upsetting a lot of players, but i'd take a Pogba/Fernandes/Thiago midfield every day.

We could easily have 2 different midfield setups also - and rotate them every other match to give them a good rest.

Fernandes/Pogba/Matic

Thiago / Fred / Van Der Beek

Think we’re waiting until we’re certain Liverpool won’t be bidding for him as that’s his preference before we make a move. The way this transfer window has went losing out on Thiago to Pool would just add insult to injury there would be an uproar the board will know this.

We all love United
Apparently there is a some sort of agreement between United and the player but we do not want to go into a standoff with the dippers because we know they are the favourites to sign him if they can sell Wijnaldum. We dont want to look bad in losing a player to them. But if they can't raise the money, we will likely swoop in, get in touch with Bayern and get Thiago. He could be the second player United are targeting after Sancho. I don't know how true but that was what i hear
