Ivan Perisic or Bale as short term solution

Imo both Perisic and Bale are okay option. Of course only if we can get them on one year loan. Personally I'd prefer Perisic but I heard Bayern only wants to sell.

I watched the recent Wales highlights and Bale is still a good player imo. And we all watched Perisic in the CL I think. Smart, pretty fast, good crosser, too footed, can play well on both wings. Exactly what we'd need if we can't get Sancho.

It's just too unrealistic to expect our trio to be injury free and banging for months, let alone a season. Especially Greenwood is just 18. We need depth and quality. Tbh I don't want to see Mata or Lingard to start for us again. James is just useless on the right.

Peak Perisic isn't close to Bale as a player. Loads of people saying Bale is crap but he has scored over 100 goals for Madrid, personally won 2 of the 4 CL finals he played in including making Liverpool look like Burton Albion 2 years ago. He has not played because Zidane won't use him and Madrid keep screwing around when possible transfers come up but he is only just 31, well rested after playing so little in the last 12 months and would scare the shit out of opposing fullbacks. Not going to be the long term answer but if we get him on loan for a year or two whilst his Madrid contract runs out we would be lucky to have him.
Yes yes and yes

I've only ever seen Perisic play on the left. Is there something I'm missing? It was my understanding we were looking for a right-wing option.

I'd go for Bale even if he only gives us 30 games. If he's really wanting to prove as a top player his ceiling is higher than Perisic.

What's Perisic like on the right wing? If he were as good on that side as he is on the left he'd be a good option, but I doubt it.

As for Bale I think that time has passed. He was a great player, 3rd/4th best player in the world for a few years. But injuries and loss of love for the game have taken their toll and I don't think it's worth the risk anymore. I do have to say part of me is still curious how he'd do, but my brain is telling me no.

Should have signed Willian.
I've said this before but Perisic and Willian are both players that a lot of people on here sneer at but whenever I've seen them always seem to perform well. Not world class by any means but handy players to have around. The 50 million price tag for Perisic was a bit excessive a few years but I think he would have done well here.

What a stupid stance to take. In the instance of Perisic’s case, we couldn’t agree a fee with Inter. Given how public it was, I’m sure he would have come to Utd if a fee was agreed.

Even so. So what if a player turns us down, do we then rule them out for the rest of their career?
I don't think it's stupid. Neither player is at his peak or particularly desirable. We need to be picky, players need to know you don't get a shot at Manchester United every day. We've stink of desperate in the market before - that needs to end.

If we're perusing Sancho we need him to be handing in transfer requests to get it done. We need to generate the sense of exclusivity that used to come when we were a successful side.

I bet Fergie didn't go in for players who said no to him.

Bale as a RW will cut inside and we already have Greenwood for that I think. Imo we should have more attacking options and good crosses from both sides are what we've been severely lacking. Perisic imo could answer to most of our problems. Depth on both wings and a different solution in matches our usual approach doesn't work. He can even play as a striker if necessary. I found a good read about him here:

Both would have been good as squad players, playing quite a lot of games but not necessarily first choice. The problem is that under Mourinho they would have been undisputed first choice and would have had a bad impact on Rashford and Martial's development.

If we knew early that Sancho wouldn't happen I would have been quite happy to bring in Willian this window, but at the time (and hopefully still) we seemed confident we'd be getting Sancho.

They are both shite options that top clubs don't want, Bale is a complete has been and Perisic is a basic crossing winger who doesn't suit the forwards we have and plays on the left.

Let's not get too greedy, buddy. Getting one winger would be fine.

Agree. I didn't like the idea that Martial would have been pushed aside but both players were/are decent options to have. Would have no problem with a short term deal for Perisic if Sancho isn't coming.

Exactly. No point adding yet another option for the elft when we already have 2 top-class ones and some backups (Lingard, Pogba, probably VDB)

Alan Shearer says hi.

It’s clearly fine to decide the player is not good enough, or doesn’t fit in. I’ve no issue with that, and I wouldn’t want to be signing either player on a permanent deal.

But if the deciding factor is because a player turned us down earlier in his career, that’s quite frankly ridiculous. The two things are completely unrelated.

Are you saying we can no longer sign Jude Bellingham or Haaland because they turned us down once?

I don't see Inter leaving Perisic in a loan again. I thought that the hope of them was that Bayern is gonna make the move permanent. With his age, Inter probably won't loan him again. he is the best of these three options though, but he plays better in the left, and we need more someone who plays in the right.

Should have just got Willian in a free.

Pogba and VDB are midfielder not winger. They're just too slow to be deployed as a winger. Lingard, god forbid I don't want him to ever start again for us. I had enough.

Pogba has played on the left before. And right-footed paymakers can do a job on that side. Besides all that, we already have Rashford and Martial who can cover that spot at a very high level.
We have an 18-year old for the right, and absolutely nothing after that. Martial, Rahford, Pogba, Ighalo - none of them can play there. Lingard and Mata are both even worse there than their other positions.
Not having a left-footed attacker who is a natural on the right is an obvious problem in the team and has been a problem for about 7-8 years now.

Oh I didn't read your post carefully enough. Was thinking you're talking about the RW. My apologies.

Truth is we have more than enough on the left. However the topic here is Perisic as a RW. He can play well on both wings mate.

Bale is a far better player than Perisic yet Perisic is likely to be fit every week, in reality though neither should be an option even in the short term and if we’re going in that direction then I’d rather we go for Dembele on loan although I’d rather we just fecking pay the Sancho fee.

We’ve been seriously trying to sign Sancho for 2 years and he’s been our number one target all that time yet now when we’re at the point that we can actually sign him we’re fecking about with the fee despite it being less than last year and less then it’ll be next year, just pay the fecking fee then focus on moving the deadwood on before the window closes.

I have never seen Perisic on the right, and on the left he never cuts in, he's always trying to put in a (low) cross. Traditional winger. Can he really play on the left?
(Also I forgot about James on the left in the previous post).

(edited because i literally mixed up left and right)

I don't watch him much either but I have some friends who support Inter and they all like him a lot. According to them he's a not a traditional winger and neither an inverted winger either. He's usually deployed on the left, sometime on the right and often switch sides. His game is more complex than a traditional/inverted winger as he can do both, since he's two footed. Run down the line to cross or cut inside to shoot. Or a through pass between the lines.

Unfortunately for him Conte loves his 352 and he can't play as a WB.

P/s: he's on £150k a week so it'd be much cheaper than Bale I think. However afaik Inter (I mistook them with Bayern in my previous post) only wants to sell him. And I don't think a 2+1 years or more deal for a 31 yo player is a good idea. Despite Inter only want ~£12m for him.

Anyway, imo both Bale/Perisic are ok. They can't be worse than Lingard or Mata. Of course only if we can get them on a one year deal. We had too many deadwood on high wage already and they're 31. A long deal would be a bad idea.

Perisic would be a left-winger. Doesn't change anything for our right-side.
Bale is a horrible waste of money and space.
He's a winger who can play both and use both feet. Last week he played on the right with Croatia.

Seriously we could come out with a better player then frigging Bale? If the choice is between Bale and no one then let's go for nobody. Lingard, James and Mata are better option then a frigging golfer.

Bellingham yeah. He's nothing special.

Haaland is a generational talent (as was Shearer).

Bale is a golfer who has a contract with real Madrid and Peresic is nothing to write home about.

There are plenty of better options than has beens who've previously rejected us.

Bale has his winning mentality that can be useful for us but I feel like he's more of a Sanchez's type. I don't think he's interested or has enough desire to play for us just like Sanchez.

Perisic on the other hand less injury prone, more suitable for high press, less wages and much more professional.

Probably Perisic.

Your point was that we shouldn't buy players who have rejected us, no matter who they are. That’s a ridiculous perspective to have.

As I’ve said, reject players on their ability, potential or attitude - but not because they once rejected us.

At least we should have attempted to sign him, regardless of his agent's involvement with Arsenal. And unlike many other Brazilians, he seems to have a more professional lifestyle, so it is not like he will turn to sh*t the day he turns 33. Sensible transfer. No real weakness in his game. And no problem having an older player amongst our young attackers. And if we signed Sancho later in the window, we could play Willian as a backup CAM and RW, and Sancho could play LW. Giving us enough depth in attack. And Willian is miles better physically than Mata ever was, so even if he decreases somewhat physically, he could still be useful.

This forum would have gone mental if we signed Willian on a three year contract. Now he’s gone somewhere else, he would have been a good signing!

I said that we should seriously consider signing Willian on a free some time before he signed for Arsenal, but I can see where your statement comes from.
