Reguilon has a straight path into the first eleven, unlike at United, where he has to dislodge Shaw.
I'm not so sure. Mourinho has favoured Davies from the start given his defensive prowess in that position. Reguilon doesn't offer the same defensive security that he does. My guess is that Mourinho wants more depth, and Spurs are looking to bring Reguilon in to replace Rose.
Or simply he's making a choice between United and Spurs and looked at where his best chances are being the number 1 in his spot.
Reguilon's choice will depend on where he'll get the most football. Playing for Spain and impressing Real Madrid will be key for him.

That's true. Shaw is better than him, plain and simple. Reguilon would play only when he's injured, and however frequent that is, it won't be ideal for him at that age. Also, there's the case of the buy-back clause which United would never agree to.

What's interesting in all of this is that none of the Spanish media reported on Spurs's negotiations for Reguilon. Mundo Deportivo only mentioned that they were monitoring him. It wouldn't surprise me if Spurs only recently jumped in once United hit a roadblock on that buyback clause.

He’s still playing for one of the biggest clubs in the country. They could be going places now they’ve managed to keep him and are clearly intent on spending money.
He also probably knows if they do go down they would probably have to cash in. In fact I wouldn't be surprised if his new contract doesn't have some kind of transfer clause about getting relegated.

Oh no! Poor Fabrizio, not sure how he will be able to recover.
Haha no as in he has constantly said we’re close to things all summer and has just been wrong constantly. I don’t think there’s been any moment he’s called anything right for us. More and more he’s looking like someone who just picks up the rumblings of rumours and goes with it. On r/soccer fans of other clubs are saying the same thing and confidence in him is waning. He’s going the same way as Di Marzio.

I hope they have a signing up their sleeve then, because Shaw getting injured fecked us in the end.

One thing's for sure, Woodward will never recover his reputation if we mess up this window as well as all the others. This could be a real disaster. Not getting Reguilon might mean we just pay for Sancho after all.

Rough translation:
In the midst of transfer negotiations between Juventus and Roma for Dzeko, de Sciglio has also popped up in discussions as a separate deal. Roma are making progress on getting de Sciglio on loan with a purchase option.

Think gifs are frowned upon in this part of the forum or it would be the TP one for sure.
 That - especially the bit in the cockpit - would be the perfect antidote to the glum mood in some of these threads.

This window feels awfully similar to our last top 4 finish where instead of building on the squad we had that summer, we decided to rest on our laurels in the market as those around us strengthened.

Back then it was Fred and Dalot, now it's just VDB?

I feel for Ole after he explicitly outlined what would be needed this summer at the end of last season and delivered CL football for the board with the maybe naive expectation that he'd be backed properly...

The Reguilon one was always weird.. all the noise came from weird sources .. it had the feel of the link being made to draw out bids..

Then Romano started talking and I thought it was serious.
Now I am back to thinking it was just to draw out a bid from Spurs.

Feel the same way about Bale fwiw.

feck knows what link is real and what is being made up..

That I agree with. Shaw will break down next season even more now with the hectic schedule. We need to sign a good back-up for him and I wouldn't mind Reguilon but the conditions won't be ideal for him.

Preach mate. Been saying it all summer and getting abuse from his gang of worshipers. He's a BS merchant just like his boss Di Marzio. They get some info on deals (usually involving Italian clubs). The rest is educated guess work and like you say they go with the strongest rumours.

Summary of the Italian transfer merry-go-round between Napoli, Roma, and Juventus.
  • Roma will pay 25 million Euros (3 million loan fee, 15 million obligation to buy, 7 million in bonuses)
  • Dzeko already had an agreement with Juve: 2-year contract, 7.5 million Euros/season
  • De Sciglio has entered the negotiations between Roma & Juve
    • Roma are offering a loan with an option to buy
  • Suarez to Juve is looking slim; he might not get in on time to be registered for their CL squad.

I agree, they will probably want a buyback clause for about 40m. Feck that.
I can see that. We have to see what it is. Either he isn't great so they don't exercise it, or he is and they get him relatively cheap. Do now United have to go out and get someone better at LB than Williams or Dalot, god help us if we are considering Rojo at LB. They also have to be a challenger to Shaw to keep him focused.

Aaaand another one bites the dust. Said all along that it wouldn't suprise me if VdB would be our only signing and we never planned to spend much than what we did on him. Having Corona in mind. Would be such a random transfer as well.

Feet up at home.
Plenty of time left yet and we've not kicked a ball. This window is for once one I am quite comfortable with us taking time.

The financial implications (with the way we are run) are important even though we'd all love to spend another 200m.

Another day and another player slips away, personally I have always liked Shaw and he's looking lean and ready to go for the new season. I wonder who we will be linked with tomorrow?
