Isn't that exactly what is going to happen?
According to that latest tweet from some Spanish journo, you lot turned it down and said they had to pay 100%. Might have just been the Dele Alli loan that pissed you off though.

Id say that;'s more to do with a personal matter than his actual ability.
If Bale can rediscover a fraction of the ability that made him a superstar not so long ago, then he'll no doubt be a success back in England.

That he is prepared to take a salary drop to make that happen is a good sign. His head is in the right place it seems.

Erm, I'm not sure he's going to take a salary drop. That's very much Reals problem, not his.

I’ll take it further - I hope he makes the Caf eat their words! Caveat being, as long as he doesn’t do well against us, and we finish above you!

I think the abuse he’s gotten from fans in general is way over the top. He’s not entirely blameless, but he had been right royally fecked by Real over the past couple of years.

I hope he’s got a good couple of years left at the top.
He's a more than worthwhile punt on a loan type deal for sure. I kinda disappointed we aren't in for him ourselves.

I read somewhere that that was the case.

Also, I don't see any feasible way of Bale rejoining Spurs without taking a considerable salary hit.

If its a loan he will only want whats due on his contract, United, Spurs or Scunthorpe. This "he is moving for a payday" is utter fiction, surely if he didnt give a shit he would simply say, "nah, feck it, i wanna play golf in Spain".
Sure. And if you want a explanation on the elitism thing, I think Manchester United fans in general just got used to getting many great signings under Ferguson and found it hard to cope when the man left, with how badly things were run by those who stayed or came to the club. Perhaps it is tough to see other clubs doing so well, specially City and Liverpool who were behind United for so long. Tottenham had a great run under Pochetinno where it looked like you guys were going to win the CL or perhaps challenge more for the PL. Not sure if it was a good decision to fire Poch and get Mourinho in. But if you get Bale and he stays fit, that's a huge mindset lift on the dressing room

I will say from our side, and again its probably bullshit and will get a load of shit for it, he was willing to take the cut to get back to Spurs.

DISCLAIMER.... THIS IS PROBABLY BS.

Loan, spurs can't afford his wages and a fee. I don't think they can even afford his wages tbh. I see this like the Sanchez to inter scenario.

I am too. He’s exactly that, a punt, and there’s some risk, but it’s minimal on a loan. We clearly got our fingers burnt with Sanchez and Schweinsteiger, but a fairer comparison is Falcao. He didn’t work out, but if he did, then we would have had a hell of a player for a few years. As it was, it didn’t work and we weren’t committed. The deal for Bale will be on far better terms than Falcao, Real won’t be getting a loan fee, and clearly they will be paying the majority of his wages.

Again, I try to respond to everything but I agree with what you say, he could be a crock, could be average or could rip it up...... if it happens. But please, see why we are excited.

Gareth Bale to Spurs absolutely makes sense for them. They are crying out for refreshment in the attacking department. I still think they need a creative midfielder to replace Eriksen more than they need Bale. But Bale is a punt worth taking because if he plays to what he is capable of, he will be their best player. If Spurs can get him on loan and pay half or less of his wages, its a punt well worth taking!

It's not a punt I would want Utd to take because its a totally different scenario. Utd are looking to build on what we have achieved last season and bring in the profile of players that Ole has been doing in young, energetic potential. I'm pretty certain Ole would rather stick with what he's got than bring Bale into the squad. Bale would not be coming because he has a desire and passion to play for Utd. He doesn't even have a passion for Football. He's clearly stated his passion is golf and not football. He sees football as a job. That's not the type of player Ole wants to bring in.

He's a class player, but only if his legs hold up, which lately they seldom ever do. It's a huge gamble, and as basically a 50/50 of a transfer as you can get.

Makes sense for Spurs since they actually have options for the RW that could start if he gets injured. Us on the other hand, we really don't have options so can't take the gamble.

If Bale fires; and with Son on the other wing, both feeding or feeding off Kane: could be enough goals to make Spurs seriously challenge for top 4s. That 3 could easily outscore MMM.

Or Bale could be a massive fail.

If Bale stays injury free and fires
If Kane stays injury free and fires
If Son doesn't get screwed over by Jose's weird tactics

I hope we sign someone at least on loan to play as RW. If not Bale someone else. We need depth very badly especially this season.

Ideal scenario is signing Sancho but looks like that deal won't happen, so better to sign someone on loan it we want to go for Sancho again next season.

I couldn't stand him at Madrid but taking Bale has touched my heart , and on top of that, maybe we get a player on loan
Honestly if they want to give us someone on loan i'd take Nbombele

Loan-deals are terrific in high-value risky situations. Often times, we talk of high-wages but completely brush off the huge outlay in transfer fees. If Spurs paid a transfer fee of 10 million to Madrid, and Bale agreed to play for a mere 150,000 per week for two years, people would be drooling at how good a deal that was. Alternatively, in the current situation, where he is rumoured to join for free, if Spurs pay him a whopping 250,000 per week, there will be many sceptics pointing their fingers at how expensive his wages are, and how bad the deal is from a financial POV.

Looking closely, in terms of pure money, Spurs would have paid almost the same in both instances - ~25m over two years!

Weekly wages are over-rated, transfer fees are under-rated, unfortunately.

He costs 300k+ per week and has had 13 separate injuries in the last 3 seasons.

I'd rather not pay and stick with the other welsh running merchant.
He is on 600k and Madrid dont want to pay any part of the money if he is sent on loan (according to Reports).
And I agree with you.

Even on loan for 1 season? He's an upgrade on Dan James surely?
Dan James is a head less chicken but at least he gives his all (not good enough, I know) but as Ole said, he would have a hole in the squad rather than having an arsehole.
The commitment matters. That gesture of putting your face mask as a sleeping band was just disrespectful on so many levels. I know, he wanted to show his displeasure by acting nonchalant but when you don't do all this publicly. You just don't. Call me old fashioned but you do sort out all the mess in house and not make a mockery of the company who are paying one of the most expensive wages in the world

Absolutely agreed.

We can't go into the season like this. It's madness to think we can play a 60+ matches congested schedule in CL, PL, FA, EFL with 2 quality but injury prone attackers and a 18 yo. Ideally we'd need two more but I'd be really happy if we sign just one.

Regarding Bale, imo we shouldn't worry about his motivation if he comes. Why would he leaves the sun shiny Madrid to this grey rainy Manchester if he's not here to play? He'd need to find a new house, move his stuffs, change his usual life, etc. as well.

If he doesn't want to he would just simply say no stay there playing golf collecting his paychecks. Which would be the same £600k a week regardless of him coming here or not.

Imo he'd be even more motivated if he comes. He'd very likely to prove Zidane and Madrid how wrong they are. Imagine what would papers say about Zidane and Madrid if he comes here and shines.

I don't buy the talk of him being a crock either. Imo his journey from a mediocre LB to a world class forward speaks volumes about his character.

However I do worry about his injuries records and the possibility of him being past it. Still worth a try I think.

All fair points and don’t necessarily disagree, I’d rather have Dan James than AdM for example as commitment and desire are some of the most important attributes for a player.

It may be my naivety/laziness but it’s been a 2 way street with Bale, they’ve treated him terribly and that’s provoked some of these reactions which wouldn’t be the case for us (hopefully).

Actually, on that point, when did the relationship breakdown actually start and who was at fault? Seems to have been an issue for years!

Reactions or not he should have changed the club. Instead he opted to sit on his huge salary which is ok but he wasted his career and we should then take that kind of a washed up player. No thanks.

If Mourinho convinces Levy to pay daft money to Bale after what happened with Sanchez then he is legitimately some kind of warlock.

Its happening

Signing reguillion puts them squarely and firmly back into feeder club territory. They will make nothing on him and lose everything if he plays well.

Then if they agree to pay the entirety of bale's wages?

Imagine paying 600k a week but not offering eriksen a better deal. Now what happens when son, alli, kane etc. ask for new deals?

It would be mental. I doubt levy would be stupid enough to pay the entire wage but who knows...mourinho has been known to mortgage a clubs future on the hopes of short term "success". After all, he is only around for another year or two tops. He doesn't care about the club. Only his own resume.

IF there is a buy back clause we will make money out of it, Levy passed on Cellabos for similar reasons, and we wont be paying anywhere close to £600K, Id be surprised if were paying £300K.

EDIT: According to Romano the buyback clause is 10M Euros more than we are paying but if another club comes in with a higher bid Madrid has to match it. His contract is until 2025, I wonder how long the buy back period is for?

5m euros in 2021 and 10m euros in 2022. I guess its akin to a feeder club fee.

Just realised that you lot might be sending dele to madrid as a way of "reducing" the loan wages

Honestly, I hope levy realises that mourinho is absolutely trying to pull apart your clubs future, piece by piece, in hopes of some short term success (in the form of a cup competition).

Would not wish this on our worst enemy. We know how this feels like. Except we actually had some success before all this nonsense happened.

Just watching that documentary revealed so much even though they probably edited about 90% of the footage. You can tell that from day 1 mourinho has alienated ndombele, dele and aurier. Those 3 were clearly going out the door sooner or later.

The quoted 300k+ is if they cut his wages by 50% which has been widely reported. They won't loan him out completely for free.

I love how so many absolutely despise Bale for his attitude. He still does very well for Wales. He did very well for Real also and then Zidane talked so dismissively about him in his press conferences. Real then ruined his move to China despite not playing him thereon. Screw Real and I'd happily take him on a loan to see what he's still got to give. Would be brilliant.

Barcelona is desperate for cash. We should check again for Dembele
Injury record worse than Bale, I guess they would sell him but not for less than 80m. A loan deal would be about 20m plus his 200-300k wages.

Il choose to be slightly more optimistic, football without optimism is a pretty sad experience.

Feeder club? If thats what you choose to call one signing of a top quality LB, honestly couldn't care less, we got a player we desperately need.

The documentary was an absolute puff piece and took it as such. Jose does what Jose does, as a player you rise to it or you fall to it. Dele has had many, many chances and each time over the past 3 seasons he has hardly ever stood up, Jose wend through a stage of constantly picking Aurier who again constantly made mistakes, GLC got alot of stick from Jose on par with Ndombele but the difference was he adapted and is not probably first name on the team sheet.

I am not a massive Jose fan by the way, but we have him now.
