We've had the official "Here we go" from seemingly the only reliable ITK. The buy back was nonsense. Madrid having a laugh; hopefully we can return the favour one day.

Ed Woodward showing why he is a specialist in failure.

Starts negotiating on a player for 2 weeks and gets nowhere. Spurs come in, pay the fee and snap the player. The same Spurs team who furloughed staff, same Spurs who has spent money on Doherty and Hojberg and are said to have no money.

Here is a club finished CL football, needs to improve and signs 1 player.
From all the reports, the fee was never the problem.

Those who are saying : "Its a good decision we are not buying him because of the buy back clause, dunno why people are not getting this", well the problem is not that.

The problem is we are probably not going to target an alternative player for Reguilon. We are going to use this buy back clause as an excuse for not buying any Left back. Same with Sancho and his fee.

Why chase these players if they were not going to come anyway, waste the whole summer, and then not sign any alternatives either?

Thats whats highly fecked up.
United haven't pursued this player. We haven't spoken of him. This is not some guy we've targeted and made a huge play for. This is someone that's been offered to us and we've taken a look at, quite liked, but backed away from because we dont like the terms involved.

Now, do you want to know what is really 'highly fecked up' about all of this?

Its that everything I wrote in the first paragraph could be complete and utter bollocks. It could very simply be a case of United being used yet again by an agent to get their player a move. They tell clubs "United are very interested, its now or never" and then feed that information to a bunch of tweeters all too eager to post their exclusive.

The point is - nobody knows, and yet you've all been manipulated into losing your minds and hating our club over a player you probably never heard of 3 weeks ago. A player that wasn't on one single fans 'wishlist'.

It's a shame we didn't sign him as he showed with Sevilla that he's a classy operator but the terms offered were a bit dodgy so can understand why we didn't go for him in the end. That said, we definitely need a player in that position, the jury is still out on Shaw but the dip in our form when Williams came in for him at the end of the season, especially with Rashford who didn't have Shaw's support down that side, showed just how bare our squad is.

UK, hun?
There will be credit if they promote academy players. Football is not all about signings. Get real.
Why on earth should Woodward to take credit for the promotion of academy players?! That's down to the hard work and graft of the likes of Butt and co.

I say the only way to redeem ourselves now is by getting Alaba.
I think we'll go for Vitaliy Mykolenko. He's young, he lives on spare change and he would accept the bench. His club would probably accept a low fee as well.

Well I for one am devastated that we aren't getting this player I'd barely heard of in a position no-one considered a priority up until about two weeks ago.

Assuming our interest was real, wouldn't be surprised if this is Jose up to his old tricks buying players to stop other clubs getting them ala Fred/Sanchez.

Its mental isn't it? Our fan base will just believe any dogshite printed (or tweeted).

Its so incredibly obvious that this "interest" that we had was manufactured by spanish/foreign press.

Furthermore, what self respecting club of our stature wouldn't walk away from a deal like this? Buyback clauses? first refusal? Are we a fecking feeder club?

Good decision from us then. I'm happy to see the club have standards and not panic buy at all costs. We need more players, but players that want to be here for the long term.
We have definitely improved and become much more shrewd and certain in our transfer dealings.

It isn't a coincidence that OGS's arrival has something to do with this.

Yes. If things don't work out with Ole as manager, i would love it if he becomes our DOF. He knows what a good strategy is for our club.

Its like a bizarre character study. Everyone on this forum would believe that they are too smart to be manipulated by the media, and most people generally agree that Twitter is the lowest form of that, and yet they still find themselves totally taken in by it.

He isn't British though.
I wouldn't mind Jamal Lewis tbh. He was at the right age at the right price. Instead we went for Regulon despite not agreeing with either fee asked or buy back clause. Sometimes you wonder if we really want to strengthen the side

It wouldn't be a bad idea. But I think OGS will get plenty of time as manager if he continues to improve the team both internally and through the transfer market. We are headed in the right direction.

Who would have thought that adopting a strategy thats worked for SAF (and the club) for almost 30 years would be successful? Blimey.

This is terrifying and possibly true. Thankfully Fred has proved useful. Just not £50m useful.

Well okay I disagree with this move, I would have accepted the buy back and then dealt with the problem when it came, buy back was tomorrows problem in my eyes.
If this is a different transfer window and we are not buying Sancho cuz of corona implications on finances etc then why not accept something like a buy back. Its like we just make justifications not to do anything.

I mean you look at Bayern last year. They got Perisic on loan. It worked. They won the CL. He certainly helped. And then they dealt with his contract situation when the time came to deal with it. Ditto Coutinho. For some reason we just think we are above that and players like Regulion especially going to our rival teams might be a difference between making the CL or not. But ya we sure will show them if we finish 5th or smth and we dont need to deal with the buy back clause, they sure will see us as a club with prestige then
We want prestige and be considered a big club again? Get results. Players on loan, buy back whatever, get results. Year in year out.

I haven't been following this much but I thought the player really wanted to come and it was Madrid, not himself who wanted the buy-back clause? Also that it wasn't really a traditional buy-back but more-so that Real had the right to match any incoming bid? Not that it makes that much of a difference, but still.

Fair enough on your board if they didn't want to be forced into a situation they didn't want by Madrid.

From the outside it seems we were never in for Regulion anyway.

But Alaba can play CB. 2 positions for the price of 1.

I think we were absolutely correct on this one in regards to refusing a buy back clause. Shows the state Tottenham are in to agree to it.

So basically Spurs have had their pants down - great stuff
Too early to tell. If let's say he has 3 great years there before he moves again to whichever team, and they make a profit out of it, it will definitely still be considered a success.

I can appreciate both sides - Utd not giving in to a condition they don't want, and Spurs not caring for it since they get a great player to add to their time, however long it may be.
