Trusting Williams is only asking for trouble. Shaw can't stay fit. He will definitely be out for a few weeks and then we will drop points because we didn't have a better backup.
Again like i said we've never had amazing backups in the full back positions yet somehow we coped and won plenty of titles. It's rare that we've even had three fullbacks in the squad never mind four.

If you think we're suddenly going to drop points because a single player of Williams quality enters the team you're mad and haven't been paying attention.

Fans today seem to think you need a squad of 22 top players. That would be lovely but it's not realistic and we don't have the money.

Thank you.

Not sure where this belief has come from. I mean look at Lpools options.

If Shaw gets injured again this season we likely need another starting 11 fullback, not a good back-up. He's looking the fittest he ever has so that is good news.

AWB, Shaw, Williams, Laird, TFM is more than sufficient.

I personally think TFM should be shifted out too

Remember the 07/08 summer transfer window where we nailed the Anderson/Nani signings early in the window, and then added Hargreaves as a final inclusion later in the window. Yeah I miss that.

Even back then it was up and down with transfers.
Summer 2006: Can’t believe we have lost Keane and Ruud and just signed that loser from Three Points Lane. And where will the goals come from??
Summer 2007: Great summer as you mentioned, however you forgot Tevez, a very important player in our double-winning season
2008: Berbagate
2009: Didn’t spend the Ronaldo money
...

Sancho or bust confirmed. Very likely to close the window with VDB as our only signing

I'm getting horrible flashbacks of the dynamic duo Moysey and Woody's first season - Dithering on Strootman, Thiago, Herrera and ending up with Fellaini by the start of the season.

We always seem to get down to the rubbish options don't we. You just know that will happen.
Especially during a season as packed as this.

A season with Shaw, Martial, Rashford, Pogba all keeping fit would be a dream. The sort of luck L'pool get.

Am I missing something here in caf? Why is the match day thread not available yet? 2 days to go before we kick start the season.
Unless we sign Sancho there's no match, no season. Woodward and everyone else will be run out of the club.

If we dont make any signings we are probably tier 2 team and we will fight for that 4th spot.
Liverpool, City and Chelsea are clearly ahead. We are in the same tier as Arsenal, Tottenham, Everton and Leicester.
Im guessing the plan is if they dont make any signings to sign someone in the winter like they signed Bruno.

The board don't have any interest in paying the fee Dortmund want, they are prolonging the whole saga till the end of the window to make it look like they are working on transfers. £35m net spending as it stands is a complete joke and goes to show the board have no ambition to push for trophies.
Ole will get the brunt of the abuse but we all know who the real arseholes are.

Yep agree, we have made a rod for our own backs by being so blinkered in our persuit of Sancho.

If we leave Sancho we have yet another season without a solid RW - and if we do pay up Dortmund's asking price we are basically saying to every other club "ask for a lot and don't budge, United will pay up eventually". Setting ourselves up to get ripped off (more so than normal) indefinitely for every future transfer.

Think this has been a great window for the Glazers and Woodward:

Got done a single, relatively easy deal. Had a nice press cycle about how well that went. Only cost 40m, compare that to Chelsea and Villa!
Managed to keep United at the top of every transfer site for, say, 75% of transfer window days with the Sancho 'saga'. Generated billions of clicks and social media interaction, and SEO searches up all summer
Managed to sneak out of Reguilon deal and still maintain face
Even managed to get mentioned with megabrands like Mbappe and Bale!
Got Greenwood trending for a couple weeks too!

So as we head into a possibly revenue-disrupted year, there's absolutely no doubt that we'll be able to pay the Glazer's special dividends and Ed's big stonking bonus. Great summer.

So who will be our Fellaini this season?
We already signed Van de Beek (who is a good signing), but unlike now, we had actual depth everywhere back then and had a title winning team. This is the best starting 11 we've had in ages, combined with the worst depth we've had in ages.

Hmm I remember Hargreaves being early too? We signed Tevez later in the window.

So who will be our Fellaini this season?
And not to forget we chased Gareth Bale when he was about to move from Spurs to Madrid.
So, Sancho is our Bale and VDB is Fellaini circa 2013-14.

That doesn't mean I'm saying VDB is like Fellaini or going to turn out like him. Gareth Bale that window or Sancho now could change our season for the better.
Just stating the likeness gloomy atmosphere I get from this transfer window.

Did anybody actually like Phil Jones? Did any of them actually get to meet Phil Jones?
It seem so. I also like him. He is type of player who gives 200% every time. He could have been enormeous defender but sadly he seems to be built of porcelain.

You have paid litte attention, my friend. Sørloth has not been playing for Crystal Palace this season. Instead he has scored 33 goals for Trabzonspor and are establishing himself as a starter for Norway on the cost of Joshua King. For me, he is the missing link in the United attack and would with his 6,4 be the perfect plan B to have on the bench. He has taken huge steps this season and is in my opinion not far behind Haaland in quality. There is a reason why he´s wanted by both Leipzig and Tottenham. This is his player profile on Whoscored, which is a bit surprising considering his height:

Finishing: Very Strong
Dribbling: Very Strong
Headed attempts: Very Strong
Key passes: Strong
Aerial Duels: Strong

Added to that, he´s quite fast as well. This is a player I´ve been "scouting" quite a lot this season, and I think he´ll have a great future.
I know this. So pray tell why Crystal Palace aren’t looking to keep him?

Not that I'm advocating going for Sorloth, but lets not forget that not long ago, Gnabry was flopping at West Brom on loan and Arsenal giving him away for very little, only to shine and be a key player for a Champions League winner. Players change, adapt, develop progress sometimes. Bruno himself not long ago was in the Serie A not really doing much, before going back to the Portuguese league and turning into the top class player he is.

I don’t really get these threads sometimes. There are three weeks to go in the window. You can argue that it’s poor we aren’t doing business earlier and trying to make sure we have the best possible squad to start with, but, especially in the current climate, it’s going to be difficult to do transfers in general and I always felt a lot of the business will take place very late in the window.

I am also aware Ed has previous of being a useless clown but judge in 3 weeks time! It’s stupid to start being even remotely hysterical now.

Irks me a little that the same lot who are calling out Woodward as a tool and giving it “perfect window for the glazers spending nothing #LUHG”, “top 4 is a pipe dream” lot are the same who will give it “Woody for a knighthood:drool::drool:” if we do sign a quality player and I imagine we will sign 1 or 2.

We've always had backups who although werent world class but could do in a pinch. Solid 6-7/10 performers.
Would be harsh to judge Williams based on a few performances but lets be honest he looked like the weakest spot in our back 4. If we had a solid defence, like we've had in the past then that can cope with a young lad finding his feet, but with an already shaky backline and an uber hectic schedule, depending on Williams is asking for trouble.

Arsenal are playing good football and strengthening, spurs getting Bale, höjbjerg, docherty and Reguiló. Wolves and Everton getting in good players. Chelsea getting in loads of top players. Liverpool and city will be strong regardless.

We have to strengthen big time. Signing Donny is great but our attack is poor in depth. We have a good starting 3 and nothing else at all in the front 3.

Were lacking a decent CB for depth and same for LB. Ighalo leaves us in January too. Its worrying. I hope woody pulls something out the bag. Other wise id bet us not getting top 4.
