C’mon guys this is a serious over reaction. We are not going to fall to pieces by January. Yes, our squad is not as strong as we like but it’s the same for Spurs and Arsenal. Let’s not forget we had title winning form for the second half of the year. We have still added to that with VDB as well as having Bruno, Pogba, Ighalo, Henderson from the start of the season. I have full faith we will be adding Sancho to that and at least one more player.

You need to check Spurs and Arsenal squads to realise how thin their squads are quality wise. Even spurs starting lineup is pretty poor at the moment. Arsenal are having a purple patch while fielding some average players in their lineups. Those two clubs have bigger challenges in dealing with the intensity of a fixture packed season than Utd do.

Even our backup players would get into Spurs team. Fred and Mctominay would get ahead of Winks and Holjberg. Arsenal fielded Xhaka and Elneny as their midfield first game.
Solskjaer ran the entire first team into the ground because he didn’t have any confidence in the back up players.

I admire your optimism my friend, but I don’t see anything changing as things stand.

Ole will overplay Rashford, Martial and Greenwood because it’s crap like James, Lingard, Mata and Ighalo that are.the alternatives.

Bringing Sancho in would mean that you have four players rotated for three positions. At least one of them gets a break every week and the quality of the attack does not fall off a cliff.

I hope you are right and I am wrong but as things stand I can see the whole season capitulating.

Dortmunds perspective must be piss easy, as long as the player isn't being vocal about his desires to leave the club and acting like a cnut, combined with the fact that his value isn't likely to go down due to his contract length, there's no reason to ship him out.
Dortmunds perspective was probably quite simple until they put an artificial deadline on the deal. If it goes through now they have some explaining to do. Their own supporters would be furious and they lose face with their own.

That position is helped enormously by the player agreeing terms with another club. He wants to leave. Seeds of doubt have been planted. What if the player was then to put in a transfer request, or make life difficult in other ways? Parts of the fanbase are now questioning whether they even want to keep him at all. A reduced, but still significant, fee suddenly looks like the best outcome for all concerned.

Well over a 1000 pages on this. Happens every year. Build up the fans hope and then let them down at the last minute. Leaches running our club.

Dortmund will be allowed to let in 20% of their max capacity in their opening match, as Germany is opening up for fans to attend matches again.

Good luck trying to force the price down
Dortmund’s capacity will be down by 80%, we should be able to force the price down.

You don't go into a Ferrari showroom with only enough money for a Fiat Punto....!!!
[/QUOTE]

No you wouldn't, but you would go in with almost enough money to buy a Ferrari and try to strike a deal

If you think 20% is good enough for a club like Dortmund then so be it. No discussion necessary.

Just an article on last years finances
It's an indicator that things are improving, rather than worsening, what you were suggesting. Their numbers weren't looking good, but this goes for everyone. And they are debt free, so they won't run into issues so quickly.

If you could elucidate what the acceptable installments are, Id be happy to entertain that line of discussion. But as I understood they want most if not all of the cost upfront.
80-20-20 (€) was the most common figure swirling around

But Dortmund have negotiated in bad faith. They don’t want to sell him, they think they don’t need to. They have done their best to let it be known at every opportunity. They have even done their best to stall negotiations.
You aren'T the first one to suggest that. Considering they made their announcement in Aug, and kept quiet since then until they have been approached on TV on Monday, I find that baffling. The only party who has done their best to let their desires to be known is your club. Here, in Germany this is a non-story.

Perhaps because they simply don’t want to sell
or because they think it will get the best price for him. When absolutely no one else has shown a real interest and is not likely to next year round. Fair fecks to them.
As outlandish as that might appear to you, yes.

P.S. I am sure as a Bayern fan you have a soft corner for Dortmund. But be mindful that this is not a crusade. And we are just fans. Have an opinion on the club all you like ( as I did ) . But don‘t go around calling folks names, even as harmless as entitled and even if true. :)
As a Bayern fan my view on our, uh, competition is rather agnostic. From a neutral standpoint though, I can only see one club acting in a ridiculous manner, and that isn't Dortmund. And if you can't stand being called a muppet in a muppet thread writing A-grade muppet posts, you're probably at the wrong place:)

His value will go down if clubs have less money due to Covid. We can spend £100m this window but may not be able to next summer. If they want maximum value for him, they may not get more than they’d get right now. Nobody knows, Covid might disappear and clubs are minted again, that’s why there’s a standoff.
His value isn't going to completely collapse, they also have him on a long enough contract and they signed him for peanuts. It's pretty easy to evaluate this from their point of view....

20% attendance is not going to be a revenue generator. The operating costs of a fan attended matchday will eat most of that.

Its great that its happening mind, but its a slow return to normality and not a financial lifeline.

I really don't think you can blame the club for having a thousand pages of absolute nonsense based on nothing

No, I am not blaming them for the pages. I'm blaming them for pulling the wool over fans eyes year after year.

Well, a lot of these pages were fueled by those constant "briefs", so...

How is that “in bad faith”? They didn’t want to sell him, said as much, but still set a certain price that United would need to pay in order to get him from the very beginning of the negotiations. It’s literally the most forward and fair approach that you can take in this situation.

 no.

Dortmund were happy to let Lewandowski go on a free even though he had an agreement in principle with Bayern.

As long as the player isn't kicking up a massive fuss ala Dembele, then they have about feck all to worry about.

So it's an 20% increase from when we weren't able to force it down. Great
Yeah, Dortmund actually manage their finances on a day to day basis and review how much income from tickets they received that very day before they make any decisions. It’s mad really, you would think a club that big with turnover in the hundreds of millions would produce forecasts on a quarterly basis. I imagine that if they did something like that before the virus hit when they were at nearly 100% capacity they might say something like “significant player sales remain a key component of our finance management”. I mean in the absolutely hypothetical and in no way real scenario where that actually happened, you would imagine that a net expenditure of over £40m wasn’t something that they were expecting to do this summer. Luckily they are easily going to be able to cover that type of completely hypothetical and in no way actually real financial black hole in their books with a mighty 20% capacity.

It looks like they easily have £40m to spend on transfer this season without significant sales.

Theres a good reason why United are calling their bluff here, their finances are public.

But he's still right about their fans being furious if they sell Sancho now. I'm not sure what point Bilbo was trying to make with that statement, admittedly; it's just yet another reason why us getting Sancho is incredibly unlikely now.

You have to hand it to United's negotiation team for their innovative tactics if nothing else. They seem to be trying to call Dortmund's bluff in the belief that Dortmund are desperate to sell him this summer. I hope they know what they're doing but the impression is that Dortmund are not only not desperate but actually don't want to sell him.

The "we're willing to walk away, we have Grealish, Bale, etc lined up" briefings only make them look even more stupid when said player signs somewhere else.

It's painful to watch. It's like a western tourist trying to negotiate in the Bangkok markets for the first time.

You have to feel for Ole in all of this. After the shambles of last summer they're looking like they will outdo themselves again this summer.

I really don't get how people are so hung up on that €45m loss Dortmund made just because they released their annual report a couple of weeks earlier than United. I expect that with all the uncertainty around the virus clubs actually calculated their entire season without fans, anything else would have been reckless and thus 20% capacity will be a very welcomed sight for everyone, even if it doesn't immediately put everyone back into the black.

The same reason we didn’t buy Bruno last summer. We could afford him but wanted him cheaper. We still went and bought him in Jan.

This myth that we can’t afford him is not true. Let’s not forget our prime targets that were touted this summer were Sancho, Grealish and a CB. If we got them 3 at the price WE wanted, they would still cost over £150m.

If we were to buy a player for £700m people would regard that as risky. Now imagine spending £700m on absolutely nothing. That’s essentially what we did when we got bought out by Glazers and put into debt immediately. Expenditure and debt has never been a problem under Glazers as it’s always been serviced quite comfortably. Comfortably to the point they have taken nearly £100m in dividends in last 5 years despite crazy transfer fees and wages paid out.

We absolutely can afford any player.
My theory on Bruno is that we didn’t have the budget left to complete the deal last summer so bought him in January from a new budget

That's what Andy Mitten has said.

I also wouldn't be surprised if the Bruno money came from the summer's budget, leaving us without the money for any kind of transfer that demands a big up front deposit.

I am not that upset that it looks like Sancho won't join United right now. I'm annoyed that United haven't moved on to a more viable target, bought them, and got them integrated with the group. We've seen how hard Havertz has had it: new country, new teammates, need to learn how everyone else play's. Yet we're probably going to go for someone on deadline day and hope they take off as fast as Fernandes. Its poor planning.

This is desperate, my God. Whoever has been working on this deal needs to be sacked ASAP.
At this point, the whole "we are trying" rubbish holds no value. It's been a month of the same narrative being run. Just feels like we have nothing to show for our supposed efforts, really.

What a shitfest of a window.

So we're going to continue offering less money than they want, hoping that they change their mind?

Great.

Now that Bale and Reguilon are out of the picture Ed And his team can focus solely on Sancho.
