They've spent the past week negotiating for Reguilon only to lose out to Tottenham. There will be no movement this week, they need to return to the office and identify the next target.
We're so inept in the transfer market.
Same type of posters who would also rip Woodward a new one if we were to get Reguilon and then lose him for a fixed fee if he were to become world class.

I didn't realise the buy back was only going to be for 2 years. That makes it slightly better, but still a deal I'm glad we stayed away from.
If he's remotely good in 2 years then they bring him back. Even if they don't plan on playing him but think they can get more than 40m euros for him, they'll take him back and sell to the highest bidder.

Essentially, spurs get to keep him if he's not very good.

Because it’s incredibly short term planning. He fecks off for about 5m more than we paid.

Absolute non starter for any big club that doesn’t consider themselves a stepping stone
Well considering our long term planning the last few years was to give big contracts to Jones , Lingard , Smalling, Sanchez and Rojo maybe this short term deal might be a good thing.

Bale is the perfect player for a manager like Jose.

When Spurs struggle it will be the players fault, but when a player like Bale then hits a purple patch it will be all down to the manager and Jose will lord it up.

I assume the player has to agree to that too though. If he's good, but not good enough to play for Madrid and is just going to be bought back to be sold for profit, then can he reject a move back?

Of course he can, but I'm pretty sure they're not going to tell him that to his face, if that were to be their intentions.

I don't really care for Regulion. If we're after a left back, why is it we haven't already signed one?

I'd assume so, but he was apparently keen on the buyback being in too as he doesn't want to give up on his dream of playing for Madrid. I think he'd jump at going back.

Meh I would've been ok with it. I'd be ok with a few loan deals as it's better than nothing. Gotta get off your high horse sometimes if the market is difficult like it allegedly is right now. Loan deals are perfectly fine as a stop gap, certainly better than signing nobody and overplaying the talent you do have into getting injured. We need able bodies, 1 at left back and 1 to rotate with the attack. If not Reguilon, then get Tagliafico or Telles. Just anyone who can play left wing back, is left footed and actually rotate with Shaw (not Williams, not good enough for that), otherwise Shaw will break down really quickly and the season will go to shit. Same with the attack.

Imagine hes good and Madrid get him back. The player is excited, but Madrid actually have a better LB in mind and tell Spurs, you know hes good for you, so if you want him pay double now...

Nah son, where have I attacked Woodward in my post? Learn to read.
I’m saying......If we were to sign him & then sell him on after 2 years he becomes World Class and we sell him back for a fixed fee.

Then you’d rip Woodward a new one for including the clause

Woodward cannot win

If you had read my recent postings before assuming my opinion on the matter you would know I feel Woodward is not the issue at all. Glazers sign the cheques, Glazers value money over club success.

So about that Reguilon to Spurs

Let me get it straight...

Instead of loaning player for peanuts they
give Spurs a player they (RM) don't need right now, get 30 ish mln € in that Covid times which are more valuable for them then they were last few years and can help them massively knowing they didn't have money to pay the same amount for VDB and then if he turns out to be fantastic player and integral part of Spurs team they can have him back for almost the same money in probably more stable times without even asking Spurs about it and have ready made player for Real or if Mendy is still 1st choice sell him to another club for 60 mln. Sth like they did with Morata. I am sure Spurs won't be able to afford him then. He will be already tested in 2 best leagues in the World so clubs will know all about him and if he is ready to play anywhere.

If he became avarage he will just stay at Spurs...

So Spurs are paying lot of money for player that could potentialy be world beater but no one knows if he is going to make it in PL and if he does they gonna 100% lose him, so they taking all the risks without having smallest chance to capitalised from it because that clause is almost the same as they are paying right now..

This is probably the best selling deal i have ever seen in my life. Wow we need that person at OT right now even for The next few weeks.
I am speechless.

Soooo glad we passed on that deal

Agree with this , especially the bold part... if that player improves the team in the short term then I don’t really see the point in getting too worried about how desperate it looks. The main thing is it makes the squad stronger.

Short term thinking post Fergie has put us in a position where were still about 4-5 players short.

I'm still checking this feed once every couple of hours and I'm really not sure why I'm bothering at this point. What an utterly useless cnut Woodward is.

Yep. People are arguing about whether he would displace Shaw. Thats not the point. Point is that Shaw will get injured if we have nobody to rotate with him for this upcoming crazy season (in fact it'll 2-3 crazy years until a more normal schedule, with the Euros this summer, and then World Cup in the winter in 22/23). So the exact thing that we need is short term depth for a few seasons, as our actual depth is too young and not good enough to be properly useful. Someone who can compete for a starting spot and just keep each other fresh without our team quality dropping when they're inevitably injured.

Well after seeing what McGarry said about Utd being prepared to wait until last week for Sancho,we may as well just shut the window until then.

Shame as it was a window that looked like promising when Ole said about taking advantage of the situation

Short term squad players isn't a problem though. Short term option for a key position when our squad wouldn't really benefit from that, yeah, but right now we need quality depth. We don't have it. Bayern won the Champions League, in big part helped by Coutinho and Perisic in on loan to be squad players.

That’s the big gotcha with the deal. His dream is to play for Real. If the loan works out, he’s gone. If he’s not good enough, were stuck with him. Classic lose-lose.

So Spurs are basically keeping Marcelo’s replacement warm and cozy for Madrid. Small timers. Mourinho isn't even hiding his short-termism anymore.
A mad Traore?
You guys ever had a Traore? Seems like every football club has had at least one Traore.

I want to win on Saturday but hope it doesn't lead to Ole thinking he doesn't need to make signings now

Good, he's easily worth what we quoted Roma and would cost a lot more to replace when we have priorities elsewhere.
But ultimately not good enough to be a starter here (in a stronger league) so we'll either take even more of a loss on him next window or lose him for nothing eventually. Especially because he's made it quite clear he wants to leave and not be a backup here. Well done, United. Another transfer masterstroke.
