It's a wonder he ever made a top flight career for himself being such an awful player.
I know. I don't want us to sign Bale due to other issues, but the lad has had a fantastic career o far. The last 18 months or doesn't diminish the rest of his career, and even those 18 months have been more of an internal struggle between Bale and the club more than anything else.

I am hearing it's a permanent transfer being discussed with Madrid paying off at least half his contract upfront rather than sending him on a subsidised loan while still paying 50% of his wage when it could not workout and then for him to come back and just sit on their bench for the remaining year of his contract.
Spurs will pay him around 200k on a 2 or 3 year deal...

Very happy with that if true.

Part of me would be disappointed not to see United take the offer, but it seems like United's eggs are all in the Sancho basket and a loan would be the only option, which is something Madrid apparently (if true) want to avoid so is a no go. Overall a good deal for Spurs if they pull it off and happy to see him back in the league even if it's not with United....

Well at least Bale will have a golfing partner in Kane at Spurs.

200k a week for an injury prone Bale? I guess if it's a free xfer because RM just want him gone. But its not like Spurs are short on wingers, wide forwards. Lamela, Moura, Bergwijn, Son.

For me martial must stay central and Greenwood then has the challenge to take his spot in the next couple of years. Rashford is learning the LW pretty well and I'm expecting this season to be a good one for him - as long as he stops trying to rush and force everything, he should be easily hitting 10+ goals and 10+ assists easily (and hopefully much more) if he gets the same types of chances he got last season.

As it stands Greenwood is our RW but it's clear we know he's not the solution, hence trying for Sancho. Regardless of his age he isn't good enough to be our starting RW and he's not currently anywhere near Martial's level. That might change quickly but that's what I see. Bale would be a stop gap but a very decent stop gap, if fit.
The board should have tried harder to get Belligham... he would've been perfect for us... maybe he will still come in the future.

No surprise he has a preference for Spurs at all. The guy has no ambition anymore.

Yeah, Spurs seems a weird choice, I guess United took a look at him but aren’t that interested or see it as too much a gamble.

I thought the pace around him would’ve helped him more, but I guess he likes a parked bus more.

The 'talk' is that Utd came in and told RM they would match/beat any offer Spurs made for Bale and were told he wasn't interested. No idea if this is true but that's what is going about.

I can’t see that being true half the fan base is torn between getting him or not, the board aren’t going to make him top earner they would want to stay on fans side after the Sanchez debacle..

There are several posters In a Spurs forum I frequent who have some contacts in the sport - could be in club, could be agents, could be players, etc. - One of these guys has stated this to have been the case. Like I said, no clue if this is true but he seemed very confident this was the case and he has a decent track record of getting things right.

There is no doubt though that Bale has an affinity with Spurs as a club for obvious reasons.

The preference of Spurs might be because only Spurs are interested.
For the same salary, as a player you want to go to a club that you feel wanted, and that is Spurs for him. I hope he stays healthy so that we can see a fit Bale in the league. This is good for the fans and make the games more exciting. I don't understand why people want him fail so badly. I will start follow more leeds and everton game this season as well.

Yeah this belongs in the muppets thread. An ITK at Spurs knows United went to Real Madrid to not only say we'd match Spurs offer, but we'd beat it too.

That's highly unlikely.

There is no way he would have shut down a potential suitor if he was that desperate to escape Real, and especially not one that could pay him a healthy salary. His preference may have been Spurs, but he would keep his options open in case a deal could not be completed.

As ever take the ITK stuff with a heavy pinch of salt. I'm just saying that is what is floating about as being what happened.

Yeah pal I honestly will be doing. Spurs fans on the other hand will gobble it like yourself. For instance while you come across as cautious about what has been said (you actually believe it to be 100% though) you don't forget to add credibility to this ITK by saying he has a decent track record of getting things right.

I don't believe it to be 100% - I don't know if it's accurate but I think it is plausible.

I think it is plausible that Bale prefers Spurs because of sentimental values ect, but it is no way plausible with how United are being run at this moment in time that we would pay Bale 600k a week, beat any offer you lot have put on the table ect. We have been burned by doing this before and we are extra cautious now. If we were willing to throw money about like no tomorrow, then Sancho would be done. So for that it is my opinion absolute bollocks and a spurs fan chatting shit to make it look like United tried their best, but Bale just prefers them over us.

We aren't paying Bale 600k a week though - nowhere near it. By all accounts it will be 200-250k.

Tbf we just got rid of a has been player, on other side of 30, who was on astronomical wages. So it is fairly obvious that he needs replacing with another guy of same profile.

we are just guessing atm though aren't we?
Well a lot of reports are coming out about what the prospective deal will be - none of them are suggesting Spurs will pay £600k per week because, frankly, we would be unable to pay anything like that. So it's fair to assume with some certainty that we will not be paying him anywhere near that salary. Hopefully we will find out soon if/when he finally signs.

He played for spurs and he’s played for Mou before so no surprise if he chooses to go there, it’s not rocket science

I dont want us to be the club to save Gareth Bale when he chose not to save us all those years ago. Rejected us twice is it? And now he is shit, people think this is the move?

Pretty much hearing the same.
RM want rid and are prepared to pay him off to go.

It's embarrassing having him on the golf course making 600k a week and a distraction for the rest of the squad.

He'd stay in my view if he knew RM weren't going to make it v unpleasant for him if he did.
