Can any of you point me towards the best projector for watching films and making the most out of the new consoles. I know I won't get the same specs as a top end TV before everyone tells me to just get a TV.

Well I think I've figured out how the Xbox naming convention works now.

So I've bought my first home, I've got a nice TV set up - now I need to buy a console.

I am absolutely flumexed as to what to do. I've previously lived with a couple of housemates for the last 4 years and one of them had an xbox one which meant I didn't need to buy one.

I'm half tempted just to buy a second hand Xbox One or PlayStation 4 in the meantime - but when it comes to November - which would seems to be winning the battle at the moment? Or is it mainly down to "depends what most of your friends have so you can play online with them"?

Depends what kind of games you like but it's hard to look past the exclusive games on Playstation, they are just objectively miles better than Xbox. Games like Horizon, God of War, and LOU make it a must if you enjoy single-player experiences.

To be fair, given it hasn't been my console, I've mainly only played FIFA and Call of Duty (I'm guessing there's nil difference between the two?).
But given I have my own place now, I probably will divulge in more single player games.

One other thing worth mentioning is most of the big titles are moving to crossplay now (Cod does) so you could get a PlayStation and still play with your Xbox friends. I would definitely suggest you give some single-player games a chance though, they are obviously a very different experience but can offer some of the most rewarding experiences in gaming.

There’s a lot to like about Xbox going into this gen but even before tonight’s show it feels like Sony has a better understanding of what gets me hyped AF for new hardware.

They had me at the Astro Bot pack-in game that shows off all the new controller functions, frankly.
Bringing this in to this thead so as not to derail the other.

Interesting, because I honestly don't see all that much worthy of hype about the Playstation at launch, personally. Maybe that comes from us both leaning one way though.

There's plenty of third party games that are going to be on the SX, Game Pass (now with EA Play), more powerful (might not make any difference in reality of course), possibly cheaper, current gen peripherals all work on it, ability to buy digital games elsewhere. Probably forgetting some stuff. If you don't have a gaming PC, it's a very strong package now.

Obviously if you really want the exclusives it offers, then the PS5 is the way to go for the future. Personally Ratchet and Clank does nothing for me, and GT is overrated these days. Only ones that might appeal to me would be Horizon and the original Last of Us. I don't see what else is appealing about it, to be honest.

Will be watching the PS event tonight before making my decision on what console to get first. I've been impressed with the series X stuff and loved my One X and Gamepass but Sony have the exclusives. It's a tough one.

I've got a question for you.

Let's say you are set on getting a PS5

What do you get as a 2nd console?

Xbox Series S
Or
Xbox One X
Or
Nintendo Switch
Or
Backwards compatible PS3
Or
Nintendo Wii U

Preferring one option isn’t being fanboy. The only fanboys I’ve seen are PS and PC guys round here.
You don't see them because you're one of them Vee, a bit like Tories who only see the BBC as left wing. Or level headed unbiased folk like me who can't help but notice that this place is filled with Xbox and PC fanboys....wait.

Switch. I'll probably pick up an S when the dip below £200.
Only 1? Switch all day.
Definitely the Switch.
Switch gives you Mario Odyssey and Breath of the Wild and soon Mario allstars... but apart from that I'm not sure what I'd really play on it?

Wii U has Zelda Windwalker which I'd like to play again maybe even more than BOTW? Plus it has all the Mario Allstars games about to be released - already released?

Xbox One X and the PS3 both give you a back catalogue of games. I'd love to play the One X version of the Original Red Dead Redemption. I'm also a big fan of time-splitters which I play on my back-compat PS3.

Dunno man. I'd almost rather have a Wii U than a Switch. Wii sports!

Officially the best poker player on RAWK.
I still can't wait for my "next gen" machine that is held back by a weaker variant, has old controllers, and no new games.

But hey, I'm looking forward to a rather last gen looking Halo in a few months!

Oh wait...shit...

Don't upset Veeva he's more defensive over Xbox than I was the PS3 in 2007.

Well it's hard for me to be that impartial since I own all of those consoles anyway, but the switch definitely has plenty of variety and balance between generations.

But the handheld thing is a godsend considering my PS4/5 is and will be usurped by my gf and kids

Touche. That's the same problem I have but even with a switch I don't think I could play until they were also anyway

My most used console is now my HTPC.

Like Redlambs it's tough for me to give a really accurate answer as I own or have owned almost all of them as well. I loved the PS3 gen and wouldn't have wanted to miss it, but from my perspective it feels like old news. While I've played games like Super Mario Odyssey, Botw, the wonderful remake of Link's Awakening and am currently playing the excellent (arguably best available version of) Dragon Quest XI on the Switch.

Not at all. I just prefer to buy it. I’ve only partaken in fanboyism because of all the ps fanboys and to have a bit of banter.

The last post is all true though and my reasons for staying with Xbox this time. Was happy to change if Sony gave me a reason to. Ratchet and Clank doesn’t cut it.

PC fanboys are the worst though. Shoehorn their toxic shit into everything.

I agree. PC fanboys really are the worst. Think they're superior because they made the right choice when it comes to gaming. Pricks. Buy a PC
