That was only 3 weeks ago... and he played for Portugal
One or 2 matches in 3 weeks should be far more than enough rest. He's a professional footballer at the end of the day.

But the problem with Bruno is unfortunately his general play when not form is pretty crap. Of course assists and goals cover for it, but when they're not here and he's out of form, he's pretty shite on the pitch. It has been like this since the end of last season unfortunately, which pains me a little bit.

Van de beek did what he should have been doing driving forward linking up the play getting in the box. He spent the second half about 30 yards away from goal.

After the grueling schedule we had at the end of last season where he played more or less every minute till his legs fell off. I think not.

I think it's, and it should be because with the upcoming fixture list this season I'm sure he'll be dreaming of just getting a single week off, not 3.

I'm starting to feel this way. He's certainly not as good as the media hype would have you believe. He did brilliantly in the beginning, no doubt, but there have been quite a few poor performances with extremely sloppy passing, and then he scored a penalty and people were gushing over him.

That said, he was nowhere near the worst player today.
In terms of general play, he's had a lot more bad games than good. It's just that he has the new player tag, the fact that he works hard, and scores a penalty all combined that gives him a pass for most.

Unfortunately, he's nowhere near as good as he's portrayed. Some have him as 2nd best to De Bryune. You can't be anywhere near that level when you're as consistently sloppy as Fernandes.

We have to hope that his earlier form wasn't a purple patch because we need him to replicate it. He dropped off a lot towards the end of last season with wayward passes and giving the ball away.

I did question whether this could be an issue, and his form did continue into today's game (arguably, his worst performance for us). If he goes off form, we better hope that De Beek turns out a top signing because we are going to need him in the first team. If not, we will have a very tough season ahead.

I think it doesn't help to have someone who can't pass in the midfield (McTominay). We play better with three players who can do such a basic thing for a Manchester United midfielder. Need Fred, Matic, or De Beek to start ahead of McTominay (The only one of them who is a DM is Matic anyway, followed by Fred as the best substitute.)

He is not good as media would like us to believe. There is a reason why his passing percentage is so poor.

Under a tree.
Wasn't great today, and wasn't really that great at the end of last season.

I personally don't like Bruno and Pogba in midfield, its so unbalanced, but prefer him as the AM given the choice of the two.
Bruno best games have come with Fred and Matic behind him

He wasn't as influential as we needed him to be, as our 10 he is responsible for the service to our front three. Right now his penalties are his most valuable asset for us.

Sloppy in the first half, tracked back well and linked well with VdB in the second half.

Didn't think he was too bad. lack of movement ahead of him was pretty horrific though.

High workrate, still not sure about the quality of his delivery.

Better as an 8 than a no. 10.

Yes because he always makes risky passes. Passing percentage is such a non-stat. 70% passing percentage and a assist is still better than 98% but no assist.

He just had a bad game in a match where the whole team was bad.

Any creator like Bruno needs a bit of movement around them to be able to create things, without it he naturally becomes a lot less effective. He can be sloppy too, but I’d rather have someone like him trying to make things happen and lose the ball a few times than another safe passer.

The whole team was way off Palace today in terms of sharpness and strength, it was painfully obvious but he was one of the few with the tenacity to at least try to compete. The rest of the team could do with a bit of his pride.

You can play risky passes with a high completion rate. De Bruyne is a great example.

The problem is when your risky passes are crap, your general game will be absolutely terrible, and that's been the problem with Bruno for some time now. He is simply not getting his passes through that much anymore.

Some things just engender unecessary debate so it's better to let people find out for themselves. This season i predict it will become obvious that Bruno is a level or two below what he's been made to seem.

He's been made to seem like some inspirationary talisman who galvanizes the team when the chips are down but those who really believe this can hardly ever point to a single game where he has done this.

He's a slightly above average player on the level of a Grealish or Moutinho.

Tried to force too much today. Risky passes are fine when that's your role in the team, and we've clearly given him the authority to make those incisive passes. There's a difference between playing a low percentage, high reward ball and trying to force passes into spaces that don't exist. We saw too much of the latter from him today. It didn't help that his midfield partners also gave away the ball too easily and frequently, resulting in our midfield becoming a possession black hole today.

Very worrying signs to be honest. He loses the ball so much due to mishit passes or poor touches and his tackling and positional sense leaves a LOT to be desired.

He creates a fair amount of chances because he has very good technique, but for a few months now he's been poor almost every other game.

Ruined by our lack of good coaching eventually and our poor fitness team.
Like most player they start well for us only to turn into shit eventually.
Was the same with Lukaku, Dan James, Bailly, Pogba etc.
He has hopefully many good games to go though for us.

People like to talk nonsense at times. He was our best player today and the only one actively trying to make things happen. Pogba looked horrendous today and could not get the ball forward. In addition, not having any help from the flanks forced Fernandes into the flanks to make the connections happened. He was literally a one man show today and therefore was stretched until VDB came on. Pogba himself was also stretched as Mctominay offered poor support to the defenders both in the build up and defensively, forcing him to stay deep. When Matic plays, he builds up with the defence, which allows both shaw and Awb play higher up the pitch, keeps Pogba in central midfield and allows Bruno to operate higher, constantly roaming with Martial, rashford and Greenwood, while the full backs keep the width. Great system that has consistently worked well for us. Today, Mctominay could not do this in the build up and instead for some reason stayed in midfield. Palace were playing with a front two and Macguire and Lindelof were caught too often in one on one situations on the ball. This forced Shaw and Fosu Mensah to play deeper after the first ten minutes. As a result of that, and neither Rashford or James providing width, our play was narrow and slow in the build up. Bruno was forced deeper to try and support Pogba, but due to this, a gap was created between our only creative hubs, Pogba and Bruno, and our attackers.

Fred has proven to be able to supplement Matic in that role and should have played.

Bruno is like Carrick while Pogba is like Gerrard to me. Carrick was better than Gerrard from this and that period especially toward the end of their career, but potential wise Gerrard was always regarded by many coaches as higher raw ability.

Bruno is more consistent at doing his part well. He has his specialty in playing key pass, assist, and shooting, but not the type that swing the flow of the game.

Pogba has very high potential. He can be bad but he's not someone who just feel like not involved.

That's being said and with the context of our lack of proper pre season, I don't think both were that bad. The issue is management. It's plain terrible to add more issue into the team with Dan James, MCTominay as our sole defensive midfielder, and TFM as RB, whereas We've already had ongoing issue with Rashford being rubbish since his back injury, and the CB partnership. It's all about asking player to be in form and bail us out rather than adapt to the situation. Rather playing negative for a draw, than being this half ass and got this defeat, while looking outplayed tactically by Hodgson.

Players like Bruno Fernandes takes a lot of risky passes, given that they are usually responsible for creating. However, one thing i know for certain is their effectives is highly dependent on the forwards ability to make runs, positioning sense and create spaces. Many of these can be enhanced with training drills and tactics. Not absolving him of any blame but i do see many misplaced passes last season was due to his teammates hesistation, and lack of passing outlets.

Was marked by 2-3 players whole game, had to move wide to even receive the ball. Other players needed to step up, James and Greenwood on the right had so much space at time, even Pogba. I really wouldn't criticise him, he ran and tried the whole game.

I find it hard to criticise him, his work rate and effort are brilliant but I think teams are starting to mark him out of the game.

Felt like he had no defined role and was all over the pitch (not in a good way). Not sure if it was Ole’s lack of instructions or something else.

He should be playing closer to our forwards, not be our deepest lying midfielder. And I don’t think that midfield 3 worked at all. Someone like Matic would have made a difference I feel.

100% we have the players for 433 and it will give martial more ball to feet without Fernandes getting in the way and allow more space for him to make late runs. I'm amazed the coaches have not seen this and at least tried it when struggling like when we sent on VDB on yesterday.

incredibly we moved two of our best goal getters further from goal!

This has a merit. It seems Bruno and Pogba do not connect, basically has different styles of initiating attack. Bruno looked much more comfortable with Matic/Fred behind him. He played excellent for Portugal, so it's not like he has lost form or touch or even tired. This team has a lot work to do to get in a proper shape. We have good players but not compatible players it seems.

He created 5 chances despite having a really bad day, he's the last player we need to be concerned about. There are definitely question marks over whether Solskjaer knows how to use him properly though. For a start he needs freeing up by having a solid double pivot behind him. Pogba and McTominay is a shambolic double pivot.

It is indeed starting to look like we have a Gerrard + Lampard situation on our hands.
