Maybe United should be more appreciative about the utter incompetency of our board.
They aren't incompetent. They just don't care about finishing higher than fourth.

And just maybe they get more mileage by failing to sign someone really expensive and ridiculous. It keeps the fans distracted every summer and it's not as embarrassing when it doesn't happen as failing to sign any centre back whatsoever. Feeding the muppets has value.

Any chance of a transfer coming in was ended with the announcement that the government is abandoning plans to trial having fans back in stadiums again. We're losing more money than any other club due to the pandemic.
This. I think the governments announcement was the final nail in the coffin for our summer transfer business. Another bullshit season awaits .:(:(

I don't know why people are surprised. We didn't have much money available for transfers even before Covid wrecked our finances, let alone now. It was clear before last summer...
I agree. There is always a big difference in expectations here vs reality. I said it at the time, things like missing out on the Europa league final and potentially £10m+ prize money (Inc super cup) all has an impact. The latest restrictions in the UK make funds available even lower.

what current player will he end up like if he fulfils his talent? Son, Sane or Mane level?
He would be on par with Lingard, Pereira and James just another squad option. One that won't have the quality to push the likes of Martial, Greenwood and Rashford for their starting spot.

The difficulties being that our CEO and his right hand man are both dim witted cretins who don't understand football negotiation.

Sure as eggs are eggs, there is going to be another Fellaini type panic buy or two.....!!!
FFS, I'm dreading how this window could go, I'm now just hoping it closes and we don't buy anyone at all...!??!

Would this go down as our most dissapointing summer transfer window ever if VdB was our only signing?

Not as dissappointing as just signing Fred to be fair. At least Ole actually wanted VdB, unlike Mourinho and Fred.

Identical pattern though obviously. Qualify for top four, make one signing of magnitude and end up 8th.

2013 takes some beating. SAF departs and the club brings in a new manager for the first time in 27 years - everyone assumes it been carefully planned, with numerous high-profile signings lined up to usher in the new era... instead, we only sign Fellaini, on deadline day, for more than his (expired) release clause.

Ed Woodward's first summer in charge and a sign of things to come.

This is precisely what is going to happen.

I was just going to post. I wonder if it's influenced by the market not being closed yet. There's maybe an element of 'not showing our hand' while we're still in negotiations and excuses (maybe valid) for not spending after the window closes.
I asked the question in another thread but could this be the reason they’re holding out to make signings?

It's not a credible reason if it is.

Other clubs are able to spend more than us this transfer window.
Ok, I’m not clued up with regards to that sort of stuff and I know I’m going to sound a bit thick but I read somewhere that they had to show the banks that they’ve made at least 65m PA as part of the loan agreement or some such shit, so I wasn’t sure if perhaps they were waiting till a certain date that they could show the banks they had the cash for that financial year which Google tells me is from 1st October - September 30 in the US, before they could spend again.

Who knows, they are hardly a secret with anything surprising in them. There's probably a valid reason but maybe it's not an ideal time to go public if we are negotiating deals, on the other hand after the window we can say 'look how hard we've been hit' when there is a fan backlash.

I really do not get Woodward/Judge's persistent need to drag shit out. Are they addicted to drama? It's been proven regularly that all this dragging out does not work. What could have been negotiated winds up being a war of attrition where we either don't get the player, or we pay over the top anyways. Especially because they end up pissing off the sellers who then refuse to even sell us a virus.

Wolves are getting things done. Something is very rotten if they are able and we're not. Covid or not.

For those keeping score, with Dale Stephens joining Burnley, only West Ham have brought in as few new first team players as we have (one)

If we sign nobody else then this transfer window has to go down as the worst since the Moyes and Fellaini one. You have to constantly improve and move forward in football and signings are a huge part of that. We've barely added to the squad which is the same as moving backwards. At the end of the season we had momentum which feels, rather than be built upon, has been crushed underfoot.
There's still time for the club to turn it around, I'm still hopeful that they will. But, even if they do, short of signing Sancho it looks like they've grossly mishandled this transfer window.

Glazers paid the corpse of Tom Brady 50 fecking million
Tom Brady is arguably the greatest QB of all time it would be like us buying Messi . His Jersey has been the biggest selling or at least in the top 5 for over a decade. I wouldn't quite call him a corpse either he is still one hell of a player

What would Ole do if there are no additional transfers? Would he pressure the board? I mean he would be walking into a lion's den especially with the CL games. With no quality apart from the first XI, I suspect we'd be lucky to make it out of the group stages. Hopefully we don't finish third in the group as I can't stomach another Europa journey.
