Feel a bit sorry for the lad. Gets dogs abuse but you can tell he’s trying hard to turn his fortunes around. Really could have done with a goal or something last night but it was a good performance overall.
Too little too late. And tbf not looking abysmal against lower league opposition isnt really a good performance overall.

He is easy on the eye. The way he moves with the ball and off it. Finishing was terrible though.

Is it just too late? Or is he going to be afforded a chance due to no one coming?

Another average performance, the gap in quality from the front 3 to the likes of Lingard, Mata, Ighalo & James is gigantic and needs bridging.

I can't believe Lingard played in a world cup semi final, he lacks any sort of real quality; He had a decent season in terms of stats in 17/18 because he played in a United team that finished 2nd in the league.

Showed willing last night, but still not the player who was making intelligent runs and creating space two ro three seasons ago. Guardian today…..
with Jadon Sancho seeming a non-starter, United would happily see if they could get Dembélé motoring again on loan. And that’s the problem. Barcelona desperately need to reduce their wage bill and would rather United agree to a permanent deal for the player before they let him go. Perhaps that is why United have offered unfilled-potential’s Jesse Lingard a one-year deal and told Tottenham to sling their hook.

He reeks to me of a player who had potential but didn't put in the work to improve himself. Sadly it's a common theme these days given how much they earn when they're still learning

He did OK but against that level should have running the game, got dispossessed too often still. No doubt he is trying but there is a gulf even to Greenwood for him. If the price is right a move might suit both parties. Still leaves us short for the right side but playing him because we have little other cover isn't a reason to keep him.

Run a lot, but his passing, shooting, dribbling and decision making was terrible and nothing was coming out of it. If we played 300 minutes he still would not make any difference on the pitch. Get rid as fast as possible.

I am pretty sure you are all joking saying he played well unless you are rating that game in Lingard scale because in normal football rating it would be 5/10 against good team, against Luton it was 3-4/10.

No impact at all.

Physically that was the best I've seen from him in ages. He was carrying the ball really well, but I think he tried too hard to score himself at times he should have passed.
He ran a lot and had chances. But he has three main shortcomings:
- his shooting is poor (all shots were high and wide, as almost always)
- his passing is poor
- his technique / ball control is not very good.

So it’s a bit like Daniel James, but with more footballing intelligence (but similarly poor end product)

Best I've seen Lingard do in a long time, though that doesn't say much as he is usually utterly dreadful.

He never managed to find consistent end product, I'd be okay if he stays as a 3rd choice squad player in a number of positions, but the club needs do drastically reduce the wasted high wages on players not good enough to warrant such contracts.

Problem seems to be other clubs don't want to pay anything near our valuations, so we can't even sell anyone. Our squad is still bloated and somewhat unbalanced. I'm praying we find a way to offload at least 2 more players this window, but realistically more need to go.

Nice to see him getting back to his form, refreshing performance against a competitive opponent the other day. Attacked the space really well and took responsibility with all the pressure still knocking at the door. Would start him against Brighton for tactical purposes, after all the bad luck is ending and with enough chances he'll be another option.

How the mighty have fallen. Lingard has no business being in any Manchester United first team line up.

He needs to move on so we can either buy new players or promote academy players.

Wanting Lingard back in the team is a lack of ambition and something that is purely based on sentiment.

He needs to jog on as soon as possible. Adds no value to the team.

I would like to see him under a top coach. He is a smart player so could improve under more advanced tactical plans.
If we bring one in it might be nice to have Lingard around.

Lingard is the type of player that adjusts though right? If all he needed was top tier coaching then teams with it would be in for him.

Who are all these European and domestic teams enquiring about lingard? I'll fly the plane myself to bring him over

If only even one top coach thinks like you, Lingard wouldn't be here this long.

Losing to Comeback Winning!
To be fair, he have been upping his performances... for the contract.

Still not good enough, shadow of his best form. And more selfish too to score.

Worried once the club extend his contract (let's face it, the club love doing this), he'll drop his performance again. Better not extend it to keep his performances be so we'll benefit from his energetic performances.

Looked zippy, made one nice pass and can't begrudge him going for that cut in and shot near the end instead of setting Rashford up.

To be fair, his performances at the beginning of this season and end of last season are more his normal level of performances. Last season was more of the outlier in terms of how incredibly bad he was for most of it (along with the 2-3 month period he was great a few years ago), and it happened at the same time as he was having problems in his personal life so hopefully that was the cause. If he can get back to his normal level he'll either be a better squad player for us or make us more money if we sell him.

Came on. Had a wild shot that went high and wide rather than seeking the pass.

I was quite surprised he didn't start following starting in the Luton game last week. If Lingard needed any further confirmation that the writing is on the wall for his United career, James starting ahead of him was it. Unfortunately, no club will be stupid enough to pay money for this waste of space.

Can't wait until he isn't even making the bench again.

Almost made the goal of the season with his weak foot. Getting back in form after an unfortunate little patch but maybe too soon to sign again.

Lingard doesn't even make the bench. So, we are selling/loaning him or not? How much big squad we are going to keep this year?

If he gets a contract extension, I'm seriously done. At our current rate of shambolic I will probably die of a heart attack before we win a title again. Need to think of my children!

Porto interested in loan. Deadline for submitting champions league squad is tonight so it needs to be done soon. Although Portuguese transfer window is open till 25th, signing him but not having available for CL won't be good for anyone.

Rashford, Martial, James, Cavani, Greenwood, Mata, Pellistri, Ighalo are our options for front 3 even without him till Jan. Amad instead of Ighalo from Jan. Just keeping him and not playing will mean nobody will be interested in him in next windows as well. Loan him and it might turn out to be case like Smalling where he proves valuable enough for them for permanent transfer.

It would be great for him if he can get somewhere and start playing each week. He is still a decent player and has a lot of football left in him yet, I just don't think it will be with us. Fingers crossed he gets a move and can restart his career properly.

Yeah a move would be good I think. We could still use him, but with Cavani in the team there is less place for him too.
He do not have a clear role I think for us. His best football often came from the right drifting in or playing in a 3-5-2 system as an attacking midfielder.
Would like to see him under a better and more attacking manager and if he can regain his form. Playing under Mourinho and OGS is not ideal even if he did well one season under Mourinho.

He still serves a purpose. He is reliable, even at his worst he can play at this level without causing a horror show. He doesn't add anything to the team but he's there to help rest better players in cup games and cover for injuries. If somebody wants him we should sell, but he's not somebody we should let leave on a free either.

He's been stealing a living for years and always looks terrible against any half-decent opposition. If no one bids we absolutely should let him walk. When rest is needed we can use youngsters like Elanga. Paying 100k to a veteran scrub to occasionally watch the game on the pitch is a joke. He has no business being at United, adeus.

Elanga and Chong before were way too far from the first team for us to afford selling Lingard. Like someone said he could still do a job. If injuries come and we need a rest and need to win games, Lingard won´t be that big downgrade and is good system player, runs well, can press and that can help us maintain shape, youngsters can´t do that with way lower fitness levels. On top of that who knows maybe jesse can hit another purple patch in which he outperformed star players like alli for a while. Homegrown player who won´t cause a havoc for not playing. I don´t see why that is a problem to have him around untill this season. We will definitely use him even this one but for the next one. Chong could be ready to feature more and provide what Lingard does now, Elanga ready to have his breakthrough season if he stays fit, Pellistri or Traore in the mix too.

Next season he´s off but until that we have needed options and fill the gaps..
