Porto wants 20m - We offer them 15
Dortmund wants 120m - We offer them 100m
Cavani will probably want 5m - we will offer 4m
That's negotiation, I see nothing wrong with those offers.

The problem is, you need to leave yourself time to negotiate. Starting the process a week before the deadline is crazy.

 right, nevermind his boyhood dream of being a key player for Madrid.
It depends on many things. For example, for all we know right now it might boil down to a choice between starting all games for Spurs when fit, and being a bench-warming 2nd choice at RM.

Crazy how no other big club ever really consistently leaves recruitment to the last minute/week yet it's just an accepted fact and method by us as if it's a sensible way of doing business when it comes to United and we shouldn't dare question it

Sorry but I can't really buy the supposed method to this madness when we're one of the few clubs that does this and it's hardly been working out for us over the last few years.

It doesn't necessarily take hating the club or wanting the glazers and Ed arrested to notice and remark the incompetence we exhibit every window when it's clear for all to see

The process hasn't been just one week though.

I agree on Sancho completely but for Telles (and a Cavani example) - these targets have their options narrowed too. It makes them far more willing to compromise, and the whole desperation point works both ways.

Telles wasn't our prime LB target, it seems Regulon was. You can grant the club some grace period on switching from Regulon and moving to Telles in that regard - and given the circumstance of the transfer we can't be better placed than this to play hard ball.

Club is reactive not proactive. If we had started the season with two wins probably wouldn't see any action.

Spot on

The most recent and jarring example of contrast for me was that new keeper the rentboys signed last Friday and seeing him between the sticks already yesterday against Spurs.

They identified a target, negotiated within a suitable time frame for both clubs and got it done without a saga allowing him to come into the team seamlessly and quickly. It pains me seeing how efficient and proactive most top clubs typically are in the market in comparison to our exhaustive and seemingly neverending way of doing business

I'm not sure leaving it late makes the selling club weaker in any way, unless the player is in the final year of his contract.

I think it's the opposite. The later you leave it, the less chance you have of securing the deal as the selling club will have already made plans to include the player in the new season. It usually takes a jaw dropping offer to seal a transfer on the last day.

I remember how efficient liverpool were when they signed VVD. Shame we can’t be so effective when buying big players.

They announced him even before the window started if I remember correctly so he was able to join the seamlessly to start the new year without a tedious saga lasting the entirety of the window like we had with Bruno this year  :(

What I'd give for us to be able to get a jump on some of these major/important signings without the same tiring and seemingly endless song and dance we've grown accustomed

Lads, I'm beginning to think whoever is in charge of the transfer negotiations at United is an inept chancer who should be hounded out of the club.

This is the kind of transfer that should've been wrapped up earlier in the window, so the focus could be shifted on to bigger money transfers, like Sancho for example.

Under a tree.
The irony calling me not bright when in the sentence i clearly state Reguillon.....also still the insults keep coming because you have been proven wrong.

The state of you...i feel sorry for you

Anyway i'll put you the ignore list. As Mark Twain said “Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.” (here you go googling him )
:lol::houllier:

You are the one that replied to my post. The lack of self aware is frightening. The conversation was about Eriksen, go look over it rather than being so arrogant about not being wrong.

Please do put me on ignore, you would be doing me a favour, i repeat, if it doesn't stick, you replied to my post first, my response was pointing out your stupidity.

From what I gather nobody likes dealing with us. We use intermediates and low ball offers, the selling club rarely hear directly from us until it’s time to wrap it up, we’re fecking useless.

Even when it’s time to wrap up, our negotiating team finds a way to drag things even further.

I don’t have access to emojis. I was being sarcastic. The fact that Southampton reported them for tapping up and they had to pay extra, and into the next transfer window.

It took Liverpool over a year to wrap up the VVD transfer. I knew somebody who used to work for his agency.

It's so weird, because we don't think like a football club. I mean, if an 30 million lb is available for 15 or so, that's good business.

But we think he's gonna be available for free in 6 months, and I get that. But will in 6 months United still be his destination? There are clubs who could offer a way better salary and we'll be back to searching for a LB. Now with that same 15 mil or so, who could we get in the same quality?

Not really, you could count on one hand the clubs who would offer him a similar salary to United.

I think we are playing hard in this one as we dont want to be seen as easy in future windows.

If we are the only one in for him and he wants to come to us we’re absolutely right to be negotiating a hard bargain. I’m sure Porto begrudgingly need £12m-£15m more than they need Telles for one more year.

Porto will basically get what we get from Roma for Smalling. They should talk to Roma if they want more money.

It's not "negotiating" when you never actually land any of these targets on the cheap. It's just lowballing and repeatedly failing, annoying clubs all over the world in the process. The arrogance to assume that clubs like Porto and Dortmund will bend the knee and give in. I'd wager they don't. This apparent desire the club's management have to not want to be seen as being able to be taken advantage of simply leaves them looking incompetent in a different way, unable to close deals for much-needed players in problem positions and once again heading into yet another season with an unbalanced squad and major weaknesses. Presumably they're not worried about this one too much as they can just sack Ole if/when things go bad and that's the excuse sorted for another season of failing to compete.

And by the way, the buy-back clause will mean nothing if the player doesn't actually want to go back.
Same thing was said about Morata, even his agents came out with that

Turns out that no, in fact the buy back clause was automatic - player had no say on the matter, legally. Though tbf, in morata's case he signed a pre-contract with madrid which would become effective upon triggering the clause. Not sure that has been the case with Reguilon, so it might be different

Telles is also pushing very hard for it. He'll be a United player soon enough after we agree £1m extra at the weekend.
Not sure why some of our fans are being critical.

We aren’t spending 20m euros on someone who can sign a pre contract in 3 months.

This isn’t going to happen.

It might be a bit late now but it had to be done at some point, we'll see whether it works or not.
A few of us share the same sentiment, we've also been trying to get our wage structure under control. I'm just a bit annoyed we've decided to start doing it before we put our team together, we're so close to having a good team and a quality squad and we should've waited until we'd pieced that together before playing hardball, because then we'd be negotiating from a position of strength like the Scousers are doing.

What cracks me up is how predictable that as soon as Reguillon goes elsewhere and doesn't dazzle on his debut, all the football masterminds on here reckon we dodged a bullet and he is shite.

Bunch of clowns.

Would be the only other time we have a Brazilian worthy of his cap (1) since Rafael (2). Amazed that both Pereira (1) and Fred (11) have International caps. The others being Anderson (8), Fabio (2) and Kleberson (32).

How much are Brazil struggling to get a decent team together?

Was that after they fecked it up so badly trying to sign him the the first time that they had to apologise?
