His kicking wasn’t the best. The only kick that achieved something would have given us a good chance on goal if James didn’t head it straight to a Brighton player.

He should get a run in the team now. DDG needs to be shown what's what.
DDG has don’t nothing wrong in the games he’s played. He’s upped his game from last season. Henderson is pushing him, and we are seeing a difference.

This isint a DDG vs Henderson argument, we can be pleased both are performing well.

DDG wasn't good v Palace by any stretch of the imagination. He was good v Brighton but again flapped and stayed glued on the line when we needed him to show some authority in that match. Henderson has been almost flawless both games and given DDG run last season and the end of the season before that Henderson should be given a chance. But that's just my take, both are good keepers.

That's one of the main things I'm looking for when I watch him as I wasn't particularly impressed with what he did with the ball at Sheffield United. I assume/hope that impression and his less than stellar stats in that regard (worse than De Gea) was more down to their style of play than his own qualities.

He's a good shot-stopper but unlikely to ever be as good as De Gea in that regard, so how good he is where De Gea is weak matters.

first time I’ve seen him play is this season, and you can immediately see what all the fuss is about.

I like the way he organise his defence as well as his ability to get into action after long quiet periods.

seems we are very lucky to have our GK position sorted for many years to come.

He's the real deal. I'd be starting him now if I was Ole, De Gea can still pull off the odd top class save but the negatives are starting to outweigh the positives. Henderson fills me with confidence.

I'm not having a go at De gea but it feels amazing to have a goalkeeper coming out of his line.

I disagree - but that’s what’s great about football.

Henderson has done well, and I’m delighted to be saying that, but that doesn’t mean he should be replacing DDG. DDG clearly had issues last season, and if it happens again, we have a genuine contender for the no 1 spot who can step in.

He was the better Gk the last 2 years based on performances than Dave, and is a better GK now. Surprise. Plus he is on top mentality wise, and isn't damaged goods and used up. De Gea should seek another challenge somewhere else and hope to find his best form again. There is almost no area of the game where De Gea is better currently (handling/catching would be the only one). He has more experience and more fanboys based on past performances, but that doesn't count a lot in the future if you are washed up and on the downhill. That is the cycle of life and football.

Think you’ve got to give him more time to adjust after having played for SU for two seasons. I think he can match DDG on shot stopping, he’s already a top shot stopper. There are other aspects to goalkeeping namely sweeping, command of box and organising the defence vocally. DDG is weak at all those and Henderson already better at all of those attributes.

Did well. Good to have someone to actually put pressure on De Gea.

Doesn't look to be the ball-playing "modern" GK some want, mind.
Can't get everything, to be fair to him.

I'm just happy he's comfortable leaving his line to claim crosses and relieve pressure off his back four.

Why do players that people don’t rate have to have fanboys?

DDG has never had any pressure on him previously. We all know, that Romero is never a no 1. Now we have genuine competition, and DDG is the man in possession of the no 1 jersey. We need to let this play out. Henderson wouldn’t have been brought back if he didn’t have a chance of being our keeper if DDG fails to perform.

This is working well.

Another clutch save at 1-0. That was the pivotal moment in the match for me, he's really pushing de Gea which can only be good news for the team.

Realistically a lot simply comes down to whether De Gea keeps making mistakes.

If he manages to cut those out (and that's a big if) then I find it hard to see Henderson displacing him. Not least because De Gea will have demonstrated remarkable mental strength to overcome what is quite literally the worst disintegration of form I've ever seen from a goalkeeper. At a club whose spotlight swallows goalkeepers for fun, bouncing back from a rocky early start and a later career loss of form would be pretty exceptional. That, his experience and his shot-stopping ability would keep him at #1 unless Henderson proves to be extremely good, I think.

Whereas if his mistakes continue then it doesn't particularly matter what Henderson does, he'll get his chance.

Hes definitely going for the number 1 spot. Forget the save, more impressive was how vocal and proactive he was. He took the ball out of Lindelof's feet at one point to make a quick pass.

Ha! Dug up this thread to mention that exact incident! Lindelof was caught completely by surprise. Will take our defenders a while to get used to a keeper so willing to get involved in those sort of areas.

It's not even the worst disintegration of form of a Spanish goalkeeper in the Premier League within the last 3 years.

Kepa was worse than atrocious
Oh christ, I'd forgotten Kepa even existed. Well yeah, if we count him as a footballer then sure.

Wasn't quite falling from the same heights as De Gea, mind. More like someone falling straight down a sinkhole.

He’s got that Big Dick Energy about him, while De Gea is currently Moderate to Small Dick Energy. Give the lad a go, on Dick Energy alone he’s certainly earned it.

Joe Hart. Now 3rd choice keeper at spurs.

I agree it’s all on DDG and whether he makes any mistakes.

Joe Hart another player who had effectively erased himself from my mind. I withdraw my opinion.

His kicking is a problem for sure. Noticed it many times- just kicks hard on the ground and hope it crosses the half line.

Not something that cannot be improved upon.

Superhuman. How old is this guy? He’s sorted our GK spot for the next 10 years I’d figure. Move DDG on

His weakness in kicking is going to be repetitively mention like a broken record isn't it.

Especially since current system requires our keeper to play out from the back. Noticeable as clear as day.

Really? I thought his distribution was good today. Calm with his short passing and his long balls found a red shirt most of the time.
Same. Except for one bad pass when lead to a chance, his short passing on the floor and decision making when to and when not was good.

When you say 'kicking', do you mean when he chose to go long?

It did seem a bit off in terms of aim but imo those are mostly to be won for the 2nd ball (which is something we need to work on). Unless you're Ederson/Alison playing for City/Liverpool, it's a very low percentage 'pass' or chance creation opportunity imo.

I'm happy with his short game. It's not elite but serviceable and he carries it off with confidence, which is another intangible plus.

If you ask me I think he is already a better keeper than De Gea. It just matter if time when we decide to start playing the better keeper, rather than playing the keeper with better reputation.

It is a shame for him we've had a keeper in basically an unmovable position in De Gea. He looked great tonight and if I were looking at that performance and wanting to shed some wage I'd wrap up De Gea this season and move him on. But I think this young man will be at United and thrive for a long time whatever happens.

From Brazil.
I have seen enough, DDG never learnt how to come out for a cross or a corner, he makes the back very nervous. Midnight should be up for DDG. Make the change Ole and stabilize the defense. They get so nervous for a cross or corner.
The question for Ole should be this, what can DDG do that Dean can't? The answer is nothing, however Dean can do a whole lot that DDG can't.

I'd love to know exactly the difference between both keepers when they organise their defence. Granted it's 2 cup games but I just think we shape up better when he's in net. So did the blades though so was that coaching paying off in the game or was he behind it. Rally want to see him in net with baillly and Maguire playing. See how we look

Can't help but think he has made a bad decision choosing to be our second-team goalkeeper for this season. I know he is being paid £100k a week, so that eases the pain of not playing, but is he actually going to displace De Gea? No chance this season, and I doubt he will the next either. The goalkeeper has to give a massive reason to be dropped in favour of the number 2, you see it all the time how managers persist with them.

He was arguably in contention for being England goalkeeper, but that has completely gone now he doesn't play. He will play a cup game every so often, but that isn't enough. You know he will be displaced by De Gea if we ever get anywhere, just like Solskjaer did in the FA Cup last season.

I think, career-wise, he may have made a mistake.

Think this is only a short term issue for him though. Nothing drastic, although it will be hard for him to miss out on being England's number one next summer. Either he forces his way past De Gea this season, or he's gone in my opinion. He's very ambitious and will not settle for this situation long term. Obviously contractually the club are under no obligation to sell, but I can't see him sticking around.
