Daily reminder for folks that don’t quite understand the financial health of a public company like Manchester United. This deal was never happening
Then why do utd keep telling people he is still the main target, even if this stupid strategy of Dortmund will lower the price at end of window comes to fruition, the price will go from 120 to 90-100 at best, it ain't going to be 40mn suddenly.

People who go on and on about impact of covid on utd's financials, never seem to explain that part. How does spending 120mn on 1 deal make us financially irresponsible but spending 100 on it not?

However it shakes out, somebody is going to look like a feckin mug. Dortmund if they sell after all their bluster and strong talk, United for wasting the past three months when they knew the deal. My money is on our idiots in charge winning this particular contest.
Probably, but I dont think Dortmund care that much if they get a decent price. They’ve sold a bunch of players they were “definitely” keeping in recent times. It’s just part of the negotiation for them, and to be fair it works. They mugged off Barca with Dembele, big time.

The point is that we all knew dortmund won't accept anything less than the asking price. So either pay it or strengthen elsewhere. Instead they played Russian roulette winding down the days to the point where we're now desperately looking at rejects on loan deals and we will no doubt sign someone average last minute at an overpriced fee. Disgraceful
We have no idea if Dortmund will accept less or not. Depends on their finances amd Sanchos willingness. What makes you think that? Because they said they really really mean it? Negotiations don’t work like that do they

Tbf it does look like that is the stance now, bit earlier in the window you’d have no way of knowing that - as its a normal negotiation tactic

When has the club ever said he was the main target, or even a target.

Stone, Peach, Ducker, Cooper literally every single reporter with a decent connection at utd has time and again said he is the main target.

None of them are the club. The club has never said anything. Reporters have an incentive to exaggerate or even outright fabricate (more clicks)

If you are going to disbelieve everything everyone has said because they aren't the club what are you doing in a thread about a rumored transfer? Clubs never say anything about a player until they have officially signed the player or are you trying to say that the clubs don't target or want a player until they sign him?

One can safely assume that at the minimum those 3 are united mouthpieces, based off the fact that they’re the first to spew out the releases that come directly from Ed.

You stated the club "keep telling people he is still the main target". Just pointing out that we have zero proof that's true.

Again, there is always zero proof of a club wanting a player before they sign him, reporters don't attach bids to their tweets or articles. Transfer rumors are based on reliability, all names i gave are considered very reliable, stone reported just 2 days ago that utd did make a bid of around 90mn just a week ago, which was my point. How does 120mn lead to financial ruin but 90-100 is ok for the club. And if he isn't the main target why are we making bids of that figure a week before transfer window ends?

Good morning fellow muppets. I am supposed to be writing a 1500 word audit due at 12pm today. I am 800 words in and yet here I am, 5:54am, standing in solidarity hoping that today will be Sancho day.

It's the Hope that kills you.

(Wish I could post that in the Trump presidency thread right now.)

No, there are definitely other things than hope that kills you in the Trump Presidency.

When was the last time that United signed a high value player on deadline day?

Just to put things into a financial perspective, if each one of us paid 2k quid per post in this thread, we still would not be able to afford Sancho. What sort of insane money is that??

When OGS was asked about Sancho post Carabou v Brighton, he said he doesn't comment about other club's players.

Time is getting shorter to the deadline, if there isn’t any heavy fire, I can’t help but believe we are not getting it done.

Its not getting done as United won’t pay the asking price. Need to move on and FAST

We signed Bruno a day before the deadline. Signed Martial for 35 million plus on deadline day, though I don't know if you would count that as a high value player.
