What is our first choice XI right now if everyone is fit?

I reckon there will be quite a bit of disagreement about this, apart from Jones being in it obvz.

Same as last season, maybe Henderson for de Gea. Lindelof or Bailly - neither are great so doesn't really matter.

EDIT: Forgot about Telles, yeah him for Shaw too.

Same as before, only question mark is Telles at LB. Have to wait and see how he does.

Exactly the same as before. That's how good our window was.

Maybe, maybe Telles will take over from Shaw and Cavani is guaranteed the next 3 games.

Telles for Shaw, everything else the same. We needed a new CB, DM & RW & we got none.

I would like to see

DDG, AWB, Bailly, Lindelof, Telles, Fred, Bruno, Pogba, Mata, Rashford, Martial, with Pogba & Bruno playing as 8’s. Ole is very rigid with his use of 2 DMs though.

I suppose it is something like this... 'everyone fit' being a bit questionable at the moment.

----------------------De Gea-----------------‐--
AWB-------Bailly------Maguire---Telles
-----Fernandes--Matic--Pogba---------
Greenwood----Martial-----Rashford

Lots of positions in doubt though.

That would make our second XI something like:

--------------------Henderson------------------
Williams--Lindelof--Tuanzebe--Shaw
--Van de Beek--McTominay--Fred---
Mata--------------Cavani----------Lingard

Quite a bit in a 3rd XI too... something like Romero, Laird, Rojo, Jones, Mengi, Fosu-Mensah, Galbraith, Pellistri, James, Elanga, Ighalo

Might be worth seeing who actually performs before making any definitive judgements. I wouldn't be surprised to see Henderson, Telles, VdB and Cavani ahead of our 4 current starters though.

Matic/Pogba is a NO-GO for me, Since we started playing this combo our levels have been dropped

Bailly is trash and Pogba is definitely there on talent but he needs dropping right now, given the respective form of him and Van de Beek. Matic too, not sure, I might pick Fred or McT.

Basically the same, just with VDB, Telles and Henderson making a few positions more competitive.

We're naive if Cavani starts immediately next match. He will have a month of fitness program to set him up for the premier league.

Probably Greenwood will start in the middle with Juan on the right.

My best XI would be:

Henderson
AWB Bailly Maguire Telles
Pogba Matic
Greenwood Bruno Rashford
Martial
Based on current form, I would drop Pogba and play VDB instead. Matic also barely keeps his place because neither Scott nor Fred have done anything special to push Matic out. The same goes for Maguire as well. No one better than him in our squad. Cavani hasn't played football for 7 months and is more of a replacement for Ighalo at the moment than anything else. If he makes use of the Martial ban to show us he's still got it, then we can reassess our best line-up.

Is there any guarantee Cavani is anywhere near fitness? He hasn't had a game in 7months or so

It cannot be the same anymore. Pogba cannot start games, he could be better off the bench against tired opponents, that is if he doesn't get exhausted before them

I would drop him right now, but assuming he can get his form and fitness back, he still makes the team I think.

De Gea( although I would love to see Henderson start )
AWB Bailly Maguire Telles
Matic
Bruno Pogba
Greenwood Rashford
CAVANI ( El Matador)/ Martial

Matic must sit in between the 2 centre halves and play from the back into Pogba or Bruno. Who should then co-ordinate with each other and the front line. This is our only option until we find a good defensive midfielder and a center half. Maguire has been bad but I think he can improve as he plays more. A lot has to change in terms of patterns of play and co-ordination within the team but I sadly don't think Ole has it in him. He will keep playing Pogba alongside Matic and we'll keep leaking goals and an ultimate exit for him before Christmas. The run down of fixtures before Nov 10 is overwhelming and I don't see Ole escaping them at all. Poch get ready, it might be your turn to be disappointed by these ass hats in the United board room.

I was thinking about our current squad.

Formation: 4231

First Xi:
Rashford Martial Greenwood
Bruno
Pogba Fred
Telles Maguire Lindelof AWB
DDG

Bench:
James(Pellistri), Cavani, Traore (Jan)
VDB, Matic, Mctominay
Shaw, Bailly, Tuanzebe, Williams
Dean Henderson

No place:
Ighalo, Mata, Lingard, Jones, Rojo, Romero

Squad depth has definitely improved. I think a manager is expected to challenge for top 4 with this squad.

Pogba needs dropping asap and Telles is worth a go over Shaw. Apart from that, it's the same team as last season.

This is what I'd like to see as well. Just not too sure if Fred and DVDB are a defensively sound option. Square pegs , round holes scenario.

Take Pog and Matic out and tell the attackers to stop shirking defensively; press higher, tempo higher. I have doubts over vdBs quality but if he’s the main summer signing let’s at least try and play the football hes good at

Should be Hendo and Telles but really it'll just be Telles.

I believe Cavani is injured until Christmas then likely to be injured again.

Agree with that but for DDG in. The best part is we have genuine options now with Fred, McTom and DVB in midfield and Cavani in attack to change games.

AWB Bailly Maguire Shaw
Matic DVB Fernandes
Greenwood Rashford Martial

Pogba goes out for me, his form the last 3 has been shocking.

AWB and Maguire plays because there is no one better to replace them with.

What we'll play and what I want are different but to not repeat similar lineups.

My want would be -

Henderson
AWB - Mengi - Maguire Telles
VdB - Fred - Bruno
Greenwood - Martial - Rashford

Subs -
DDG, McTominay, Shaw, Cavani, Pogba

Plus
Lindelof, Mata, Bailly, James, Williams

That’s the only problem a little light in defensive midfield, but we would be able to retain possession better with Fred, Donny and Bruno...

I think it’s time to drop all the underperformers and make them fight their way back into the team.

What gets me is how all the pundits refer to how well Utd did after restart.... but the last few matches of the season and cups we were woeful, pretty much playing like we are now......

I also think it uncanny that nobody has twigged that when we were playing well, really well, it was a midfield of Fernandes, and 2 of Mc T , Fred, and Matic..... I am not Pogba's biggest fan, I think a large part of our problems will be solved if playing only one of Fernandes, Pogba or VDB, otherwise the defence is exposed and midfield is more often over run

Henderson
Williams - Lindelof - Maguire - Shaw
Fred - McT
Greenwood - Bruno - Rashford
Martial (once his suspension is over)

Subs to impact the game:
- Telles for Shaw if we need additional attacking width from the left
- Pogba for McT if we need creativity
- Matić for Fred if we need more physicality
- VdB for McT if we need to move the ball faster
- VdB for Bruno if we need more movement and bodies in the box
- Cavani for Martial for Plan B and more presence in the box
- James for Greenwood for a more direct approach and to feed Cavani with crosses
- Mata for Greenwood for more intricate combinative play and against very low block
- Lingard for Greenwood for when we need to press from the front intensively
