In an ideal world Maguire is dropped for 2-3. I’ve said before on here I was impressed with how he started playing last season, he needs a break and to get his head together. Been completely atrocious this season. I’d also drop Pogba for VDB.
It's confidence, mate. He's got the off field distractions and social media is rife people slating him. He needs taking out of the firing line for a while for sure.

    I totally agree with this.
We are being set up as an attacking force in every game with Rashford, Martial, Greenwood and Bruno, but if we cannot get the ball to them, then they are worthless, we must stop other teams exploiting the space we leave in midfield. Can easily change the shape with McTominay coming in to a midfield three, and VDB pushing further forward if required.
Completely agree, that shape stops the counter attack that we are terrible at stopping and puts players in their natural position. The two strikers will naturally find themselves wide anyway, and it helps Fred get into the team who has an energy we miss when he’s not in the team.

We've conceded 11 goals in 3 league games. I'm more worried about protecting the back 4 right now than I am about creating chances. Pogba's performances have been a big reason we've been cut open at will.

We also played some of our best football last season from January onwards with Fred, Bruno and either Matic or Mctomminay. City home 2-0 prior to lockdown we were excellent and no Pogba to be seen. Plenty other examples too. Just go back and watch.

Sometimes it's better to have a steady player like Fred who covers every inch of grass and runs his balls off than a more talented player like Pogba going through the motions to pick up his wages.
Fred was good last season. Most improved player. Definitely deserves a look in. Need to start using Matic sparingly (even though he's good) to let Fred develop.

Still not convinced as far as McTominay is concerned. Very average player with extremely limited skillset.

There are two areas where McTominay is better than Fred: 1) shooting 2) heading

In all other areas Fred is a much better player

Could the moderators please add Cavani, Alex Telles and Facundo Pelistri as options for selection? Thanks!

I know this game is a few weeks away but Ole badly needs to win this game I reckon. If we drop even more pts then the Vultures will be circling.

Given we've got Arsenal n Chelsea both at home after this one (not including cup games) means we can't afford more dropped points. The players need to step it up now and play for the manager and the club.

Pogba wouldn't be anywhere near my starting team either. His attitude and sloppiness so far has been criminal. Leave him out because that's what he deserves.

Drop Pogba for VDB. I don't think he's fit enough and VDB looks fine.
Play Bailly again (:nervous:) i still prefer him to Lindeflop.
Start Henderson. DeGea was not bad last game but wasn't pulling up trees either.

    Henderson
    AWB - Maguire - Bailly - Shaw
    Matic - Pogba
    Bruno
    Greenwood - Martial - Rashford

Subs: Telles, Caveman, Lingard, DeGea and Jones (just kidding)

Martial isn't available. It's also bizzare why people prefer Bailly - he's done feck all to suggest being better than Lindelof but that's just my opinion.

Actually have no idea where ole goes from here, players will be away and only option is to take the players who aint on international duty and work with them and would actually start as much of them as possible, not a single player could complain if they were dropped after that the other day, in fairness to De Gea I don't think hes been at fault for much this season but his lack of communication aint helping this side, Henderson now needs to start, hes very vocal, the back 4 is just such a mess, wouldn't usually like to chuck a young boy in but would seriously consider Mengi right now, just who do you actually partner him with? the 3 others have been that bad, might even try with Rojo its been that bad.

midfield I would need to go with some sort of diamond with Fred, Scott, VDB, Bruno, no way we can start with Pogba or Matic, no energy in the side with those 2, don't see any future here for the 2 of them.

2 up front would prob go with Greenwood and Rashford, Cavani might start to try give us a boost but cant imagine he has played much football in the last 6 months,

Big changes needed from the Spurs game to shake things up. With no Martial I would switch to 433 with Bruno as a false 9 due to Cavani not being fit and Ighalo being a waste of space (I know Solskjaer won't have the balls to try this though so Ighalo will probably play sadly).

No excuses for this. We might still be a little behind in terms of preparation but with 2 more weeks of training the quality has to shine through. This is where our season has to start.

Not training as a team though since most are away on international duty. Fitness wise we should improve.

Scott and Fred in place of Pogba and Matic. Maybe even Matic as DM for diamond formation. We are being overrun and it doesnt make sense to play James on right in front of AWB.

But everyone knows Ole will go with James on the right with Pogba and Matic in centre. His teams are predictable and expect Newcastle to press our defenders very high.

I think we'll be seeing both Cavani and Telles starting.
Last season when we were in bad run, Ole played it safe with 352.
Ddg (maybe even Henderson because 6 goals are 6 goals)
    Awb,Lindelof, Maguire, Shaw, Telles
VDB ( Ole is under pressure to play him)
    Pogba, Bruno
    Rashford, Greenwood

We’re going to get pumped. Newcastle have looked better than us so far and I’ve no reason to think they’ll not be better than us in 2 weeks time.

    3-1 Newcastle.
That happens and Ole will be on the brink.

Cavani is starting this 100%. Likewise Telles.

    De Gea
    AWB - Lindelof - Maguire - Telles
    McTominay - Pogba
    Bruno - VdB - Rashford
    Cavani

I wonder how involved this Pellestri guy will be. Stick him in the team I reckon. Sink or swim.

Probably not. Greenwood up front, Mata to the right.

He's not played a game in 7 or 8 months... And hasn't been training with a club for months now

I'd be shocked if he started this.

The other option would be a trio of Rashford - Greenwood - Pellistri up front.

So you either start Cavani or start Facundo
You start Mata (who deserves it on form). Or switch to a 3-5-2, or a 4-4-2 diamond.

Think Ole will go with option A or B. Can't see him throwing Cavani in with the lack of football he's had, and there's zero percent chance Pellestri still be involved.

Once again as i said in the last match day thread. Ole needs to pick the correct engine room. Fred and Matic make things tick. Fred is our best at interceptions. We also need him or Matic droping deep to defend the counter to aid our CB's. VDB is a must. Bruno is a must on the wings. He and VDB have the movement to occupy the wide positions.

Cavani, Greenwood and Pogba then add something off the bench. BUT NO FING POGBA IN MIDFIELD!!!

    ----------------Henderson-----------------
    AWB--Lindelof--Maguire--Telles
    ------------------Fred--Matic----------------
    ----------------------VDB------------

Perfect time to try the diamond formation.. or other variation of 4 midfielders system.

    De Gea
    Bissaka -- Lindelof -- Maguire -- Telles
    Matic
    Pogba -- Fred
    Bruno
    Greenwood -- Rashford

Let's face it, Pogba won't get dropped.

Can't recall too many Scot McTominay goals. How many does he have? Seems like similar to Fred's return?

None of them lighting the stage on fire as we can see...but, yea maybe you're right about Tommy being a better finisher than Freddy.

Almost 2 weeks, I'll miss the Glazers&Woodward project!
Wish we'd play a team like this, in Green and Gold; season is over anyway.

    -------------------Henderson
    Laird/TFM--Fish-Mengi/Bernard--Williams
    ---------van de Beek-Galbraith/McCann
    ------------------Mata/Mejbri
    ----Greenwood------------Elanga
    ------------------------Hugill
I remember a lot on here saying season was over before Christmas last year. We ended finishing 3rd. and in 3 cup semi finals.
