Maybe if seeing it 5 months ago I would agree. Although many of these players have looked good recently or playing for teams doing well.
I feel the worst one now might be Gomez who has been shit this season.
There’s some quality there but Southgate has a weird obsession with some really average players: Winks, Trippier, Ings, Phillips in this team and I just don’t think we will progress picking those guys.

Aston Villa
okay Mid-table team at best with a back 3 of Keane – Coady - Gomez
In the midfield with a player from a newly promoted team and (overrated)Winks
Front 3 made of Aston Villa - Everton - Southampton.
Yeah, Mid-table team at best.
The world champions had an Everton player starting for them yesterday. And two Rennes players (I know Camavinga is seen as amazing talent).

Both teams are a bit shit

Hoping it doesn't go to extra time cause I don't want to sit through another half hour of this.
Sounds bad then. Ireland has always been feeling like a pretty shitty side to watch though as long as I can remember. No offence.
Although you did alright in Euro 2016.

3-0. Nice overhead kick from Ings.

Wales way too green at the back.

Last good side was probably around 2000-2004, we were actually good then but still not pretty on the eye. Have never had players like Robbie Keane and Duff again and certainly not one like Roy Keane.

That's a great finish, not sure about the Welsh defence though, how can you leave someone in his form free in the 6 yard box?

Wales are shit aren't they. One of their players was jumping up and down with no one near him on the Ings goal.

I see the youth experiment didn't last long although can understand Kenny going for likes of McLean in such a big game.

Connolly and Idah are out for some reason. Connolly probably would have started otherwise. I'd say it'll be after the Euros (if we make it) that we'll see him stick more of the young lads in. A lot of them like Parrott are still very green in terms of senior football.

Digne started at left back according to the graphic I'm looking at.
Digne was a standby player in 2018...plus Digne has "Barca" on his resume thus he is not your "regular" Everton/Baines player

I don't think that's quite fair. He's not an 80m player is what most thought (myself included). Nor is Maddison.

He hasn't really had a chance to make the team his own yet.

He said he went for experience in this one. He wasnt supposed to take charge until these games were sorted but covid delayed everything.

Connolly was ruled out due to being in contact with a staff member who got covid but I don't know if he would have started.

Ah ffs, great chance, Ireland should have scored there.

ROI desperately needs a good striker. I've liked the look of Idah in some of his sub games for Norwich and Connolly is a livewire although dosen't have huge goal threat. Obafemi is another although he probably needs a move away from Southampton now.

That would have probably been the best footballing goal an Irish side has ever scored. Don't know how he missed that.

Jota went for 45m, grealish is definitely worth more than that. 80m may be not but at this market 60m definitely

A staff member tested positive and the two lads had been in close contact according to RTE.
