I would say if he was fit, Rojo and :Lindelof may have made a good pairing. He is not that bad with the ball either.

Have Rojo and Bailly ever played in centre back positions together?

I can’t remember one so I presume they haven’t. You’re not likely to forget them as a pairing for 90mins

Yes towards the end of Mourinho’s first season. Rojo and Jones played for a while when we went unbeaten, Jones got injured and Bailly stepped in and defence looked even better. I think they played together against Chelsea when Herrera marked Hazard out of the game and Rashford scored on the break.

They were very good most of the time. Very quick and crazy as anything. No one knew what they would do so the opposition was a bit cautious too. :D

Can't believe he's still here. Imagine if we get another new manager who wants to give him a try :nervous:

Named in the EPL squad of 25 and training with the first team.

Ole's hinted in the past that he could see a role for him, but Rojo wanted regular football, hence the loan. Now that's fallen through and Bailly's out again, could we see him back as backup for Maguire/Lindelöf/Tuanzebe, or in cup matches (which I think is what Ole had in mind - Europa League at that point in time)?

I remember Ole saying as well that the other players wanted him to stay - and one player (can't remember who) saying he was the scariest to play against in training because of his tackling!

Confirmed he's playing in the U23 match against Everton U23 tonight (along with Williams and Pellistri), Ole saying it's to give him minutes so he's available for the following week, so looks as if he may at least make the bench at some point.

Another loan? The timing fits.

Doubt any club is willing to splash high cash our club over demanded to get him. They even refused to cancel his contract last summer. It's a nice prison with high wages but boring with no football.

Contract end June 2021, with an option to extend by 1 year. Wouldn't surprise me if the club activate it just because to preserve value...

Ah, those were the days when they were magically fit for many months. Great football. The good thing is how all-around these two crazy CBs were. Bailly's weaknesses is heading of course and decisions makings, but Rojo doesn't really have any if he play CB. Both of them are so good on the ball too, passing from the back contributing a lot to our build up and attacks. It was so good. They fit each other well - Bailly tend to be more aggressive and on the front of his opposing player's faces, while Rojo sweeping things up at the back and control things with his positioning and passes.

 I remember that Chelsea game where Rojo playing all the dark arts of football tricks in the book and annoyed the hell out of Diego Costa so much he's out of that game. Don't remember him making any impact. Darmian too silenced Pedro. So Chelsea is just toothless. The only problem is Kante in that game.

:DIndeed. Alas that's just in the past.

It's fair enough if he's on one of our idiotic contracts that he doesn't want to leave for less than he's entitled to. Surely just make up the difference and let him go.

Ole the baby faced assassin is just the same in management. Hopefully he’s got Jones’s pic on his notice board

Going on a free, really dont mind I just want to get rid of him. But only highlights how poor our board decision making is. They didnt let his contract run out to "preserve his value", only to let him go for free 3 years later after he played a grand total of 817 minutes in those 3 years.

Bad move, we're super thin for cover at the back. Sack Ole, get big Sam in.

Just feck off. I don’t say that about many players.

considering the Nani loan was part of the deal, it’s one of our most shocking transfers.

players like Lingard and Young leave and, whilst not necessarily good enough gave it everything. This man was a leach. Can’t blame him as we were throwing money at him - but he’s our Seth Johnson. Appalling waste of money.

I don't know why I liked the guy so much, but he was really good in WC2014. I was so happy when we signed him, as he was the player who is aggressive, left-footed (#VanGaalthings), but he just didn't crack it. Sad to realise that he didn't become that sick mo'fo who crushed the opponents.

But good luck to him and we are finally shipping out deadwood.

I really can't believe that Marcos Rojo has been a Manchester United player for six and a half seasons. Not 6.5 years from youth to early adulthood or at the end of his career, but 6.5 years (if my math is correct) during his prime footballing years.

He never earned more than a run of maybe 4 or 5 matches but somehow he's remained on the squad through all these horror post-Ferguson years.

He had a three or four month period where he was actually quite good in 16/17 (most of us felt he was our centre back that season), but that was about it. The rest of the time he wasn't really providing anything to the team.

Where could you say he was a leach and didn’t give it everything?
We as a club gave him the contracts to sign and apparently he was joining Everton last season only we stopped it because they wouldn’t pay £25 million.
Blame that clown Woodward

Yeah, I do remember a few solid performances I think at LCB in a back 3 but I don't remember it being a three or four month run. Maybe, but it's slipped through the large cracks of my mind. I do remember the appalling performances at LB, which surprised me at the time as at least for the NT he had a decent surge going forward about him.

But Marcos Rojo leaves England having made no positive lasting impression whatsoever. Putting our own negative feelings about this aside, it really is remarkable he's been here that long and left no footprint of any kind whatsoever.

I don't have many fond memories of him to be honest. Good luck to him when he goes but meh, a waste of 7 years.

Nah, it was a normal back four. He came into the team at the end of October and then was first choice until mid April (so it was almost 6 months  ). He started that run partnering Jones and then, once Jones inevitably got injured, Bailly came in for the final month or two. Rojo really should have been sent off twice for bad tackles but otherwise he was very good throughout that period. In fact just looking at the stats for the 17 league games that he started in the central defence we never lost a single match and only conceded 9 goals (never more than 1 goal in a game).

It lasted until the Europa quarter final when he and Zlatan both ruptured their cruciate ligament in the same game and were out for 8 months. Ever since then he's been devastated by injury and fairly poor form on the rare occasion he has played. It sucks and I do sometimes wonder whether he could have been a success if it weren't for that cruciate, but I guess he was fairly injury prone even before then.

Most of his time here has been a waste but I'll remember those 6 months fondly.
