We need more protection in front of the back four. I’ve not been afraid of getting a hiding at Newcastle since the 90s...

I would like to see Henderson, Telles and Pellistri given a shot but I don’t think Ole will risk it. Maguire to sit it out.

    DDG
    AWB Bailly Lindelof Shaw
    Fred McT
    Bruno
    Donny Rashford
    Greenwood

I think there’s a decent chance we lose this if we go with Pogba and Matic in midfield and Ighalo up front.

A point will be good enough at this situation and then we must take at least a point in our next few games too. This is where someone like Fellaini is needed.

They don't need late goals to beat us. We are the ones who need a late goal, to win matches.
And don't get me started on penalties - can we win a match without a penalty?

I expect Newcastle to stamp their authority on us. We'll play like the plucky underdog and aim to hit them on the counter.
It'll be quite damning if we play like a plucky underdog. Nothing wrong with counter attack as a style of football if you play it well. Wolves have pretty much perfected it. And I'll never forget one of my favourite champions league teams of all time, Hector Cuper's Valencia. Made the counter attack look like avante garde art!

An empty St James’s Park will be the catalyst for a Utd win. 2-0 I’m calling it

    AWB. Lindelof Maguire Shaw

    Fred Donny

    Mata Bruno Pogba

    Greenwood

That’s what I’d like to see but he doesn’t drop Rashy

    My Revised Team:

    -----------------------Henderson
    AWB ----- Bailly ----- Lindelof ----- Shaw
    ------------------------Fred--Matic
    -------------DVB ------Bruno ----- Rashford
    ---------------------Greenwood

Eventually, we need to pick players based on form. If not meritocracy, how else is one to get in the team? Fred and Matic to shield the defence. Henderson to just freshen up the defence and get them out of their "nothing is going to change" stupor.

Maguire, De Gea, Pogba to get the kick up their butt's they deserve. I expect AWB to not keep getting sucked into the middle. I feel that it was tactics imposed on him. Otherwise Williams for him.

AWB, Shaw and Rashford should also be dropped then. Maybe Bailly too after that horror show.

Shaw is better than Williams at LB. And Telles has no chance to integrate yet. So Shaw starts. AWB can be dropped but I don't know who can do a better job who is not injured. I think TFM is more of a CB to be honest. As for Rashford, I agree but Martial is suspended.

Pellistri should start if Ole wants to continue with his 4-2-3-1 imo.

    Henderson
    AWB Bailly Tuanzebe Telles
    Fred Matic
    Pellistri Fernandes Rashford
    Greenwood

    Otherwise, I’d love a 4-4-2 diamond.

    Henderson
    AWB Bailly Tuanzebe Telles
    Matic
    Fred VDB
    Bruno
    Greenwood Rashford

This would give us control of the game, especially in the midfield battle. Should Ole play this team, I’ll go for a 0-2 win.

Newcastle will sit deep so it should be Donny & Fred or Fred & Matic. Scott isn’t needed in this game, he should play against PSG instead.

    Think we will see -

    David
    AWB lindelof Maguire Shaw
    Matic Pogs
    Mata Bruno Rashy
    Greenwood

    Want to see -

    David
    AWB Lindelof Bailly Telles
    Fred Matic
    Greenwood VDB Rashy
    Cavani

Muppet in me wants to see Pellistri to see what he can do, but really it is ridiculous to bang a teenage new signing in the first team here.

This has been a very tough 2 weeks for my mental health, but it's matchday and I feel good now. I take back everything I said before. We will win :D

Cavani is quarantining! Not even joined up with the team yet.

Cavani can't start because of covid?
Facundo will come in at 75

The last time this was celebrated as ‘fergie time’ if i am not wrong. Now its become a mark of failure for us.
Needing to score a late goal against a minnow is failure.
Under Fergie, we'd dominate teams and they'd be the ones who got a lucky goal against us. We'd then pin them into their own half and lay siege to their goal, pounding them with goal attempts from all angles. And those were terrific times.
There was no doubt who the big team in those games was.
    That was Fergie time.

These days, we are the underdog, hoping to get a lucky goal.
What happened against Brighton was terrible. They dominated us hitting the woodwork multiple times and like the underdog, we performed a smash and grab, scoring a penalty after the final whistle had blown. The other 2 games we played this season, we got beat, most notably at Spurs where we were well and truly pumped.

Oh of course. I agree. I love great counter attacks.
Under Jose, in the pre-season we turned a defensive corner into a goal (for us) in less than 10 seconds. I wish we did more of that.
The issue I have right now is that we are playing like the underdog in every EPL game, hoping to get lucky against the opponent.
We are unable to stamp our authority on matches, while teams like Watford or Brighton are dominating us with their style of play.

I don't think any of the new lads or Ighalo will feature from the start. Telles has only just landed in from Brazil and I think it's far too early for Pellestri.

I'd like to see Fred in there but I'd say Pogba definitely starts and I don't think we'll see wholesale changes.

I agree he'll probably bring Donny into the front line but I'm not sure if it'll be Rashford up front or Greenwood. Ole's mentioned Donny can play left. Can he also play off the right?

Well I've just finished watching the Octopus Teacher and that's potentially broken me for the day. But I've always got United to rekindle some positivity in myself before the day is out.

    Oh god.

He plays down the left, he plays down the right. That boy Donny made Italy look shite.
