Not sure. Boxing is one thing but you get maybe 1 PPV every 2 months. People are tempted to buy it because it's a one off event and they can afford it.

A lot of people simply can't afford to pay £15 every time their team isn't on Sky or BT, tempted or not.

I'm sure they've worked out some model where the low purchase figures are compensated for by the number of games, but it's still pretty despicable when you think they have all the broadcasting equipment and commentary, etc. at every game anyway, so the net cost of providing this as an extra service is small to none. They could be charging £2.50 per game and still rolling in profit.
I agree about the cost totally. Not defending it at all.

I really don't think it'll be a success. If they'd done a weekend pass and you get a few games maybe, but if anyone buys all the PPV games this week you're a big big big mug, ones bad enough. It's not even a case of having more money than sense, it's just utterly idiotic.
I wonder if anyone would pay £75 for the 5 ppv games!!

If they'd made it £2-3 a game many would i expect, but they've put it at a level only fans of the individual club would bother.

I'd set it at about 3-4£ and advertise it as the game for the price of a pint. Bet they'd get 10X the numbers signing up vs 15£ and subsequently make more money!

Will be interesting to see if the figures come out the first couple of weeks.

Personally I'll probably watch 3-4 of the bt and sky games as well as watching my Wycombe lot on ifollow (that's a tenner but the big difference is you won't find that free else where)

All games are on IPTV including league 1 and 2 but if I do watch a Vale game I will pay a tenner on Ifollow as the missing fans money is critical to the lower league clubs. Even clubs that are not on Ifollow you can get a stream.

What is IPTV? Is it basically a more solid platform for illegal streaming?

I'm a season ticket holder with Wycombe anyway, so the home games and for some reason midweek aways are "free" into the bargain.

Whether a £10 pass and say 4-5 extra aways is worth what is a £22 or so game fee, is another question though, but we'll deal with that later on in the season once we know if we did get in for any games!

I’d be happy to pay around £100 to watch all of Everton’s games for the season on a good stream and I imagine most people would be.

I highly doubt anyone would be happy paying £570 (£15 per game though).

£100 is a much fairer and reasonable price and they’d have made a killing from it at that price.

You actually pay for it which costs £50 per year but I had 2 fire sticks done for £70 and basically it has live TV/Sports from around the world plus films and series on demand like Netflix.

Not too sure on the legality of it all but I am guessing it will be illegal to a certain extent as it is advised to use a VPN. The stream is usually about a minute behind TV but it is amazing if you have good broadband.

I already pay for Sky/BT (which I will continue to do) but I wasn’t going to pay for individual games (except the odd Vale game).

I can't see it working personally. I think they'll make a bit of money out of it but then realise before long that the small audiences mean they lose potential profit on advertising due to the lack of viewers. Money will talk if nothing else and the cost will come down.

I'd be amazed if they got anything more than pitiful numbers at the current price. It's not like the football is even that great at the moment. Half the games it's clear the players aren't as focused as they normally would be.

Itll be interesting to see the numbers. My personal view is that viewing figures will be quite high for any top 6 games

I've seen some managers and players disagreeing with the whole ppv thing but I'm left thinking with the amount of money they're earning, surely this was the inevitable outcome and that the money has to come from somewhere.

I'll always have a view that if anyone's supposed to earn big money it should be the players and coaches but skyrocketing wages and transfer fees will always have resulted in pricing fans out of the game.

I’ve seen people on here and elsewhere say that it doesn’t matter because tickets to games cost £60 and you aren’t able to watch 3pm games otherwise, anyway. To me, that doesn’t matter because as far as I’m concerned they are just testing the waters to see what they get away with before they really take us for a ride because people will pay anyway. Bit by bit Sky/BT will remove something, forcing people to subscribe as a separate payment and their fanboys will defend it. Reminds me of a certain phone corporation.

£15 per game?

Are the games presented by naked woman with a half time porn show? No. Then that’s my answer to paying.

What a rip off. I hope this fails miserably. Now I have to watch the games listening to my fellow country commentators, who have no clue what and when to talk about during the game.
If the price was 5 or even 10, then they could've convinced people that is better to pay per game and watch legal, quality streams even if slightly more expensive than illegal service.
Go and try convince them now.

Wonder if this offering will continue when stadiums eventually re-open. . . Or is this purely in the interest of clubs.

Is anyone singing up to watch the United game tonight or are you resisting any temptation?

In terms of the high price, I suspect Sky/BT are concerned that if there was a very low price some current subscribers (especially if supporting teams like Fulham, West Brom etc. who aren't shown so much) might cancel and decide just to watch the PPV offerings instead. I think there must be a better balance to be found though. Perhaps a 'season ticket' for all PPV games could be offered, with a discount for current Sky/BT subscribers so there's some incentive not to cancel your subscripotn and those already paying a fortune don't have to pay excessive sums on top.

No - I refuse to - first match I will not have seen live for ages.

Why would I possibly bother carrying on with my Sky Sports subscription, if I then have to pay more money on top to watch the things I’m actually interested in?

Bit of an own goal from Sky you would think, as it’ll push more people to other sources.

That is the worry. If they start moving the big games to PPV then I think a lot of people will be cancelling their Sky/BT subscriptions.
This whole thing will backfire on numerous levels.

How can you start showing all games, charging an extra price for some, then when stadiums re-open say we must protect 3pm kick offs again in a society that going forward will always have reservations about mass gatherings, vaccine or not.

The Premier League should have used this situation to implement a service akin to NBA Gametime. Old Trafford can service 70-odd thousand people on a match day but they’re missing out on millions that either can’t get to games or don’t want to.

I agree if United are on PPV more than Sky Sporrs airings then why would people bother with a Sky Sports subscription - surely you package ALL games & monetise the whole thing. More people will be cord cutting because of this.

I’ve mouthed off about it all week, kicking off on every angle of this box office thing

As kick off approaches, I’ll hypocritically buy it

If you’ve the disposable income, no one should begrudge you doing so - this is exactly what Sky know will happen en masse though which is the p*sstake.

Football fans are generally rather irrational & act on instinct, not saying it’s as bad as booze or drugs but they’re being rather callous withdrawing something people have depended on for escapism in these times.

Seen a few posts doing the rounds on twitter about using it for better things so I’ve done that.

Moneys gone to a better cause and I’ll stream it for free instead. Everybody wins.

Unfortunately people are stupid. They don’t realise that if they refuse to go for this ppv will die, and therefore that’ll be better for everyone. Or they don’t care.

Went to a motor neurone disease charity I do anyway but they’ve got a little more this week. Every little helps, anything’s better than lining the pockets of the premier league fatcats.

All opinion though if people want to buy it I’m certainly not going to say they can’t.

I tend to use footybite I got it from reddit years ago and it rarely fails me for streams, or reddit soccer streams
