It really isn't. McT and Fred isn't good, swap one out for VDB for me.

I dunmo, we kind of get muddled down the left when those 3 are playing together. VDB and Pogba really opened the pitch up to the point AWB fecking scored.

McT, Fred/VdB, Bruno is a very good combination and has so much upside potential.

OGS should start building this unit and phase out the virus, given he's leaving.

We only started to play when Pogba and Van de Beek came on. No chance this is the way forward for the club

Not too sure about this, because Fred was poor and we still lack creativity.

Defensively, it's more solid, though.

Game was very stretched by that stage. I think it would have been different in first half

I'm at least hoping to see this against PSG, albeit with VdB coming in for Fred.

Fred needs a few games to get his form, which is only fair!

We need to be Pogba-less for as many games as possible so those guys can build their relationship, confidence and form.

It wouldn't have worked today without Mata.

We've tried it before and it's usually not that great.

I get why Ole put Scott today against team who sits deep instead of Matic and VDB. It’s to help Bissaka against Maximin. Maximin was running the show lot today but Scott did very well helping Bissaka.

It depends on the formation.

If we play a double pivot, Fred and Mctomminay is better because both have defensive capabilities to cover each other and simply recycle the ball to try and get it to Bruno. Pogba cant play in a double pivot because the way he plays is through movement and in such a role he turns static and ends up losing the ball whilst not being able to add defensive play in an important position.

However, if we stop playing 4231 and move to a 433, 442 diamond or even a 352 then Bruno and Pogba can play together in a midfield partnership because they help each other out both in attacking play and defensive play when playing closer together in a partnership whilst having a CDM that provides cover for both. The way Bruno and Pogba were getting forward CM positions today was better than anything I've seen. Quick one two passing, Pogba going forward and Bruno staying deeper, bruno going forward and Pogba staying deeper etc.

If Ole is not dropping the 4231 then Fred and Mctomminay are better.

VdB is not a midfielder. Or at least he hadn't played in that role for us.

Fred and McTominay is very underrated duo, Ole needs to give them a chance.
He is a midfielder. He's not solely a 10 or second striker - at least this is not how I interpret his play in any case. Fred was quite erratic today, he will probably lose the ball a lot against PSG. VDB is extremely well polished in tighter areas (again we need this vs PSG) and strong in his pressing game.

Toronto FC!
Mctominay looked a cdm today winning headers in midfield too. but fred brings in a really good work rate.. both have their qualities we lose when matic plays. All i know is brubo fred and vdb can play together. One of them needs to be in.

Thought McTominay played really well today. Some of his forward passing into attacking positions really helped

I am by no means suggesting we go back to Jose-West Ham 2018 and do it now... but Scott has looked pretty good at CB for Scotland (albeit in a back three).

It’s the most balanced midfield for the formation we play. Unfortunately they’re not our best midfielders. We will be back to counter attacking, low possession football against the better teams.

VDB is even less of a midfielder than Pogba. He prefers to play high up the pitch, higher than Bruno. The only way we can possibly play VDB and Bruno is by using a 433, like City, however I’m not sure we are good enough in possession to pull it off.

I haven’t watched them to be honest so could t really comment.
I think he is a good squad player but we all overhype players as United fans. We do have a very basic bunch of players for the best part but in McTominays case he is a good squad player or good for rotation in ‘smaller’ games.

That midfield three gave us our record best streak of winning football the club has had for 6 years. Of course it's the best trio. However we're in a situation where have to satisfy Pogba and Donny. Pogba and Donny have to settle for impact subs.

As ludicrous as it sounds, a back three of Shaw-Maguire-McT with Telles in at LWB against some lesser teams where we'd want more control wouldn't be terrible. Although I know... absolutely nothing, so there's that.

Bruno is the attacking midfielder no question about that.

What I like about the Fred and Scott duo is that both players are intense and aggressive in their games. It helps us disrupt the flow of their game better, win the ball back higher up the pitch, and they also move the ball quicker. Man Utd play better football when there is more intensity in our game, on and off the ball which this pair offers. The problem is, they perhaps don’t offer the quality on the ball we need at times. Regardless of whether this trio is the right one going forwards, I think it is the right blueprint in terms of the profile of player and style we want in terms of what we want to do in midfield.
