It's nothing at all to do with it being a female official weird you think it is .

You pull back an official like that and you should get punished for it end of story .
He put his hand on the shoulder nothing more nothing less . The fact idiots are making a issue out of it is nothing short of pathetic

its against the rules to put your hands on an official. He was being aggressive beforehand, and it was a condescending neck grab.

I’m not saying he necessarily should be banned, but it’s not good on lots of levels.

He put his hand on the shoulder nothing more to even create a issue is pathetic and embarrassing. If that was a make official there's no issue FACT.

Yes. Because I can put club loyalties to the side, and can think logically and rationally.

it’s very clear, you can’t put your hands on officials.

There's a clear difference between what is accepted (or not frowned upon) socially and what is accepted in the game. It's not a friendly half-hug after the match*, he's putting an arm on her and pushing her towards him as she decided to ignore his previous claims (already shouted right in her face in an inappropriate manner). There was no aggression there and the ref responded perfectly, but you can not do that, period.

You can’t grip officials like that, doesn’t make it worse that it’s a woman.

People playing it down is ridiculous.

It’s a power thing. He wouldn’t of done it to a man. Basically proves everything women have been complaining about in the workplace forever.

women are still not considered at the same level as men and simple actions like this are so so demeaning.

Siam Massey turned up today to do her fecking job.

imagine this was a girl in the post office doing her job
Imagine this was a checkout girl in tesco
Imagine this was a girl Serving drinks in a bar
Imagine this was any girl who you ever offered to buy a drink to who said no and you just grabbed her
imagine she is a sales rep forced to put up with creeps touching her all day

it is demeaning. I imagine most people here are male as am I, but this shit is endemic in our society and it is accepted no matter what bullshit spin people put on it. It is not acceptable.

To those who say she said “it’s ok”, women in the workplace constantly put up with this bullshit for fear of retribution. They continuously internalize things like this because they are afraid of the backlash. Imagine is Aguero gets banned and the abuse she would have to put up with next time she officiates a game at etihad.

What I saw here was a powerful male trying to excert dominance over someone he viewed as inferior. He fought back because he felt like there will be no retribution. He took his actions because he was not the one with the power in this case, it was Sian Massey, and he couldn’t handle that.

aguero is a fecking scumbag, intimidating creep. feck that guy, and feck anyone who thinks what he did is ok.

He should be suspended from playing against us the whole season. The FA need to step in and show who’s got the balls here.

It's a fecking yellow card offence, nothing more, nothing else. People are trying to make a meal out of it because it's a female, the rules are clear.

It was aggressive, he gripped her neck from behind. Regardless of if it was a male or female lino it's not on.

That wasn't the same as a friendly pat on the back as acknowledgment.

That doesn’t make it right. None of them should be doing that too, maybe bar Pogba as his was clearly friendly and players do that to each other all the time. Rest, including Aguero’s to Sian Massey-Ellis, are all red card offences as per the rule book of not touching a ref aggressively.

Thankfully, what this picture shows me is that Aguero’s weird neck touch wasn’t sexual. He’s just aggressive to refs when he thinks they made a wrong call. In turn though, he shouldn’t be like that as that’s wrong too.

Yes, they shouldn’t be doing it regardless. But, I don’t remember this much fuss after any of the instances in those pictures (maybe there was and I’ve forgotten?) which makes me think that people want Sian treated differently because she’s a woman - and that’s called sexism.

So no male referee or lino has ever been harangued, shouted at, handled, badgered? They only do it when they see a woman and some dominance exchange psychology kicks in?

Had Aguero done that to a male, we wouldn't have even ever heard about it after the game.

Didn't Di Maria get a red for tugging Oliver? We were outraged by that why is this different?

It’s the PC brigade mate. Yes it is sexism, although as I said, all those players should have been sent off bar Pogba. There just wasn’t this hue and cry as the refs there were guys, as you say.

They're all bookings (apart from Pogba maybe) but I don't remember the threads for these other players blowing up because of them touching refs.

But for this specific one, this thread is going off the rails.

Either people have gained such a high level of mortality towards refs and their rights... Or... The narrative here is different because the ref is a woman.

You’re talking nonsense, if a player lays their hands on an official (which is what we’re talking about here, so don’t try and dilute the discussion by mentioning things like badgering etc) they will be punished.

Di Maria was sent off for tapping Michael Oliver on the back.

Also this is made worse by the fact it was a male doing it to a female professional, it’s super relevant and that’s why we’re discussing it.

It’s the latter of course. Although, I must say I put my arm around lads who are my mates all the time, but never to my female friends. Even when we are taking pictures. So maybe it’s clouded thinking but that’s why the PC brigade are reacting more to Aguero than Messi, Ronaldo, Paul etc. It was a woman he touched, unlike the rest of them. For me though, I vehemently believe Aguero had no sexual intentions. He was obviously wrong nonetheless, but he was just angry.

He got a second yellow card for it.

We're outraged because other players get away with it.

I couldn't be less bothered with players shouting abuse, but ever since Rooney got banned for it....

If he had held a male referee like this would it be such an issue?

If a female had a held a male referee like that would it be an issue?

Is this an issue because of Covid?

In all honesty regardless of the above It looks bad because he’s bigger than her and it looks like he’s controlling her with his hand but oh god in this world I just don’t know what to think anymore!!

Di Maria got a yellow for that IIRC; it was his second, hence the red but not a direct red for the incident with Oliver. I don’t honestly remember my view of it at the time, I suspect I thought he was stupid to do it while also thinking Oliver could’ve let it slide in the circumstances.

The debate here seems to be if this was a yellow or a red.

This with Aguero seems more aggressive than Di Maria but does it elevate it to the red card threshold? I’m not sure either-way TBH - the incident is certainly influenced by this being the only female referee in the league, and Aguero probably wouldn’t have reacted like that in that manner if it hadn’t been her but should that influence the decision? It’s a debate certainly - I think he can have no complaints if he faces further action, but people will complain about her being afforded extra protection, as if that’s a bad thing or something.

I also think the point made about Massey-Ellis potentially facing some trouble from the City crowd when they return (insert Empty-had jab here) if this is taken further is a good one; whilst she shouldn’t have to put-up with that then it might be easier to just let it slide, however unpleasant the whole thing is.

Regardless it reflects really poorly on Aguero, who we know is a twat but doesn’t really have that rep in the media as far as I can see up to now.

Thankfully, just been announced he's not going to be banned for it. I honestly think If he got banned from football I'd give up on the game with the amount of snowflakes and P.C brigade trying to get him banned via social media.

Thought it wasn't anything but a yellow would probably have been in order.

That was not on at all. I can't think of one incident where something like that has happened to a male line official.
I'm not saying that Aguero should be ostracised but imo he should have seen red for it. Some would say a very harsh red but you cannot pull a line official back like that. It struck me as someone who has very little respect for said official and I think the fact she is female MAY have contributed to that.

Wrong its in the rules, no aggressive = yellow card, aggressive = red.
Her sex is completely irrelevant.

It felt a bit strange watching the replay but look, he wasn't doing it in an aggressive way. Those saying he did I think are over reacting. He did it in a more sincere way, people from those parts of the world act this way sometimes. I would definitely say in his eyes he did it as a way of being kind to her.

Some of you will ladder your tights reading that but I stand by what I said. He's not being forceful. Its more of a "come on, darling" gesture. And yes I understand the people who will say that is belittling her because she's a woman and she's not getting treated equally.

He shouldn't have done it and I don't think its appropriate but its Aguero and he plays for City, so cue the rape allegations!

Well, there's your problem.
