Wonder if he's slightly unhappy about Martial playing the #9 and him out wide.

The fact is, we have two players better as wide forwards who want to play centrally.
Actually, it's almost certainly the opposite. When Martial returned last season, everyone was pointing out how Rashford began pretty much exclusively looking for the pass, trying to get Martial going.

Whether that was due to the coaching staff's instruction or his own team-first I-want-Anthony-to-shine instinct, he's shown for months now that he's actively wants to do whatever is "best for the team".

Delighted he scored tonight. He's an excellent player and I don't know why he seems to cause division.

a lot of people don't like him because he’s English, and think he gets preferential treatment.
Maybe, I don't know. Look, he can go through some poor patches but so does every single other player bar some weird superhuman freaks like Ronnie. He's still only 22 and has netted 70 times for us despite drifting between being a wide forward and a number 9. His top level is fantastic and he's been improving his consistency over the past 18 months. He's one who has flourished under Ole having had a rough time under Jose.

Stepped up and led the line excellently at a time when the team needed him to perform because we had no other options at number 9.

His decision making can frustrate sometimes, but his mentality and work ethic is absolutely top notch and he has the talent to back it up.

2 goals and 2 assists from his first 4 games. Let's hope he can match or even surpass his numbers from last season.

He wasn't that good tonight (don't @ me)

He played 2 balls with Newcastle wide open & scored a goal when the game was over.

Watching the full game, he left me feeling frustrated with his decisions and blind ally movement.

I'm not hater but he seams to get more of a free pass than anyone else.

How about buying competent strikers?

This is not a charity. If Martial and Rashford do not grab their chance, they will be replaced . Signing Cavani is a clear statement to them that they are not good enough.

The next striker we buy will not be a veteran like Cavani so they better buck up their idess
That wasn't the message sent with Cavani's acquisition, both Rashford and Martial had their best season last year, but the team is paper thin up front, and Cavani was more of a panic buy than some kind of pre-meditated message to the duo.

I think the same can be said with Bruno, may not have had the best game but turns up with end product. I think this is more indicative of the style of play, we seem to be more of a moments team than having a clear philosophy.

What are you talking about?? Last season Our front 3 scored more than Liverpool or city!!!! We were irresistible at times.

we were just desperate for experienced cover better than Ighalo that wouldn’t let standards drop when martial needed resting.

So we got Cavani. Added benefit: he can mentor martial to get to the next stage. There was nothing threatening or sinister about getting Cavani at all.

Can anyone translate this absolute word salad?

Anywho, it is pretty clear that Rashford's future lies up front. He runs the channels better, he drops off his man and finds space so much better than what we have seen in the attack. I think it is obvious the other creative players initiate way better with him than Martial. He's not that comfortable in a creative sense face up against two or three around the edge of the box and it thought that was pretty obvious today. Which is why he has looked pretty wretched of late on the left.

If we can get him on the same crash course hold up plan that Martial is on at the moment then I think it will improve his game and positioning in the box with the amount of creativity behind him he'll be able to orchestrate in the attack and finish chances.
Tis a game of opinions isn’t it. I could not disagree with the bold any more. One of Martial’s (many) strengths lie in his hold-up play and intricate linking with our front players.

Don't forget penalties skew those statistics. Rashford hasn't really produced as a CF, and neither can play on the RW properly. If/when Greenwood ascends to be ready to take over the CF spot, they should split the LF position. Until then, Martial is the best CF and brings a lot more to Rashford's own game from there than sitting on the bench or competing against him. Rashford didn't have his great run last season until Martial came back from injury as the #9.
Don’t forget Marcus Rashford had to contend with breaking his back last season. Without that and the impact on his game he’d have scored even more.

I see Bruno getting stick for his mis placed passes but never from me.

I remember Ole talking about Pep & Klopp and saying they tell their forward players to try the special pass, not to worry about losing the ball in the final third. If you lose it, win it back quickly!

I'm personally, happy to see Bruno play these passes, even if he misses them. The alternative is, we have another sideways safe passer. As long as he isn't putting us in danger, long may they continue. Also, I think he sees things others don't so maybe he sees a run and the receiver doesn't, making the pass look bad. More often than not, Bruno has a telling contribution to every game.

His playmaking ability is a very underrated part of his game imo. When we were on song post lock down he was pulling strings in the final third, and not just on counter attacks.

For all Rashford's imperfections (or lack of genuine excellence in a single area), he's a very good attacker who does two important things well - end product and effort. 2 assists and a goal today. Well done.

Sure, but that doesn't change the context. For that matter, Martial missed a couple of months himself at the start. My point isn't to compare them, it's simply to not discount one to raise up the other. They are dependent on each other for the best success, and I think Martial brings a lot to Rashford and his best output last season.

I guess it is a game of opinions. Martial being more than "well okay you've certainly improved from being absolutely diabolical and we can now build something out of this, still a long way to go though" level hold up player is certainly a woofer of an opinion in my view. What we saw in patches of the first half and after Donny came on is, I'm assuming how Ole wants the team to play and I don't remember seeing much in the way of intricate movement and passing from when Martial was leading the line. But ho hum, game of opinions innit. I don't mind either player and they're both at a similar overall level in their career in terms of leading the line for the club. If we're aiming for what we played today in the last 20 minutes then I would pick Rashford over Martial at this stage. The main point really for me is getting Rashford away from the left wing role which he's been absolutely reeking at playing for a while now. Bring in a quality, actual left sided player and play Rashford up front I think is the direction the team is heading toward.

You didn't get my point. We have no clinical striker up front other than an 18 years old Greenwood.

Even Ole can see that. Like I said the next striker we sign will not be someone like Cavani. Stop pretending that Rashford and Martial are the answer up front. Clearly they are not.

Ole was chasing Haaland in January. Am sure when his realese clause becomes active we will be after him again.

That was my point. If these 2 don't deliver, they will be replaced. The club has given them plenty of opportunities to stake their claim.

I suppose it's a happy problem to have; how to get him to strike the right balance between selfishness and selflessness and knowing he can perform either way.

Not surprise that he's looked a threat again when he has space to run into, but it's the other areas of his game that needs to be developed.
That's it. When ball moves quicker, it's more difficult for defenders and midfielders to take positions. As a consequence, wide players are up against 1 player rather than 3. That's why for example teams like Bayern can rotate wingers and see no drop in performance of the team.

Rashford, opposite to Martial and Greenwood, is not a natural dribbler. He has good ball control while running, but needs space to do it effectively. That's why it's essential to circulate the ball quickly and with purpose.

He's not completely back to his best yet but he's getting there. He looked very good yesterday, particularly in the second half. I'd argue he's been our best player so far this season, early days of course.

Watch his first assist again, watch how close Bruno was to being offside and how close the defender was to getting a challenge in. The pass had to be perfectly timed at speed without time to look. Lovely pass much like one to Martial last season. Goal was quality too.

Let’s not get adventure mixed up with sloppiness.

I love that they try the killer passes, but that isn’t the complaint, it’s misplacing simple 5-10 yard passes when under little or no pressure that they need to cut out.

That’s Bruno’s biggest flaw but you can accept that as he pops up with something magical to make up for it, rashford needs to just cut that bit of casualness that sometimes creeps into his game.

In the 2nd half though he played a lot more fired up/determined and his goal especially was beautiful, he looked so damn fast even at 90 minutes!

I wish he’d hug the line a bit more often and just blast passed fullbacks sometimes as he’s got the ability, it would also earn him some space as defenders would be scared to get tight just in case.
