Thought he was poor today. Needs to cut down the mispasses. He was lucky we had Fred and Scott covering him.

I love him. Proper Fergie team mentality.
Great interview. His passion for the club already is clear to see. If there's anything we've gotten right over the past eight years it's bringing a player like this to the club. Top mentality and ability.

I love his style of play. Playing against park the bus teams you need his risk taking or we are back to LVG style sterile sideways passing.

Probably our best signing since Eric or RVP!
Cole, Yorke, Stam, Ronaldo, RVN, Rooney, Carrick, Rio, Vidic etc..

Bruno is great but has a lot to do before we start saying that in fairness

Edit: I think there is an argument for him to be best post Ferguson signing for sure

14 goals and 11 assists in 27 appearances. Ridiculously good stats even with penalties.

Will only get better especially with clever players around him like VdB, Mata and Pogba when he decides to give a shit.

This. I don’t care if he looses the ball sometimes, the guy is permanently on kill mode, constantly looking for the killer pass.

Goals and assists absolutely are just stats in the context of this conversation and you've recently used them yourself to highlight how productive he is. It's almost impossible to separate his actual performances from his stats. Understandably so, as they're hugely impressive.

That said, I'm not talking about him making more mistakes because he takes chances, rather I'm talking about him frequently misplacing simple passes and looking utterly mediocre seconds before picking out Rashford with a 50 yard ball over the top. The guy can veer from totally average to unbelievably effective in a matter of seconds. These 2 sides of his game coexist fairly naturally, as we've seen over the last 9 months.

It doesn't make him a poor player, but it does make it hard to talk about his all round game when all anyone wants to fixate on is the momentary assists and not everything else.
How often do you think people talk about the high number of shots Ronaldo used to and probably still takes to get his goal output?

We accept things might not come off. His numbers are ridiculous to be honest.

When he is on song and has Donny and Mata around him, makes you question what Pogba’s role in the team is

The best thing about him is he hasn’t had a real class game for a while, possibly since we beat Bournemouth 5-2. In fact, the general consensus here is that he hasn’t been playing well since! However, if you check the stats, he hasn’t got one bit less productive. Still a goal or an assist in every game. With most other players, you’d say it’s unsustainable, but with this guy, I’m not worried at all. Why? His unbelievable and unbreakable keep going mentality.

He's amazing. Won't change a thing about him.

Eventually when age catches on a little bit, I'm sure he'll modify his style, but till then, onwards and upward it is

That was the game plan buddy.. and one could see he thrived getting on the ball so much more due to the midfield being dominated by Fred and Scott. He has proper winning mentality and provides a few quality moments every game. His pass to Rashford for the goal was pure class IMO.

The man has an amazing attitude. Two superb finishes. Don't mind his erratic passing, he's the only one taking risks. Would be first name on the team sheet in a Fergie team.

Play him with VDB and never with Pogba.

Going to say this again, but hes the best transfer we've made in ages. Not only does he have loads of quality, but his work ethic and attitude is top notch as well and its infectious on the players around him.

Also, him and Mata were great to watch. Two very intelligent players who always seems to think one move ahead of everyone else.

Would be interesting to see VdB, Bruno and Mata as the three offensive players in 4231. A bit lightweight, but loads of creativity there

Today it worked out but the lack of pace and penetration would be an issue if we play all three. Managers would start adjusting their teams accordingly.

At the same time probably playing 2 out of VDB, Bruno and Mata and 2 out of Martial, Rashford and Greenwood would give us a better balance in terms of creativity, pace and goal scoring abilities.

That was the set up mate. Fred & Scott was in the team to allow Bruno to play quicker, more direct & risky quality passes rather than playing it slower, safer & possession.

That is what he should be doing, doing risky pass instead of side pass. Mata would still be doing his side pass without bruno there...

lucky fred and scott is covering him? thats their job too. Pogba, matic is too slow to cover anyone. One wrong pass and their counter attack begins, overrunning our numbers fast and score.

Bruno had a lot of pace. I don't think he's even slower than Martial or Greenwood. Then VDB seems like have a good pace also.

With those three (VDB, Bruno, and Mata) + Rashford, i honestly don't think we need to worry about not enough goalscorers there.

He had a spell last night where nothing was coming off, but as usual he ends up with a world class finish and an excellent assist.

It's not always easy to give him a grade out of ten, but you can't argue with his productivity. Whenever we win games, more often than not, he's directly involved.

It was a gigantic "Save that" with a side of double middle-fingers and a dash of disappointment in himself for missing the pen earlier.
 yeah that's exactly what it was, good call. Martial who can finish with that kind of nonchalance, while Rashford can really channel that frustration into an unstoppable finish, but we've not had someone with a combination of both in a long while. Great attitude to have in the team for sure.

Sorry but I completely disagree. Bruno has the capacity to be our best player and probably become a Legend but he currently isn’t trying a leg. He is lazy, inconsistent, inaccurate, nonchalant and lacking in effort.
I don’t want to say this about our best player but the facts in front of your eyes don’t lie. Come back Bruno that we all loved. Until then, cop yourself on and work harder.
Whaaat the feck

No doubt in my mind that’s he’s world class. I think he’s the one stacking player we have who I watch and think, yep he’s on a level with the best in the league. Just a brilliant mentality!

It worked today because Newcastle were parked in their own half all game so the clever movement and intelligence of those players is going to be more potent than the pace of Rashford/Greenwood. Against teams that play a higher line, Rashford and Greenwood would be the better choice since they will then get more space to run into.

Can't help but think he would be monster of a player under SAF. His mentality is amazing, wish all our players had his will to win no matter what.

Bruno’s attacking and creativity metrics aren’t particularly impressive. Of players to play 1000 mins in PL last season, Bruno was
  • 30th for xA90 (KDB 1st class of his own and had double even 4th, Pogba 20th, Pereira 23rd, ASM 29th, McNeil 31st)
  • 47th for NPxG90 + xA90 (Jesus 1st, City 1st-5th, Rashford 18th, Martial 22nd, Hourihane 46th, Pukki 48th)
  • 32nd xGChain90 (Mahrez 1st, City 1st-8th, Martial 23rd, Rashford 24th, Pogba 28th, Henderson 31st, Jota 33rd)
I’d combine 2019/20 and 2020/21 data, but can’t easily.

Alexis Sanchez used to get a lot of criticism for being overly wasteful, but he delivered more for it. His metrics were much stronger. Bruno has to become more patient and selective to be an elite attacking midfielder. He gives the ball away an awful lot for what he outputs. I can see why other top clubs scouted him, but ultimately gave us a free run to sign him. If a special coach really honed him, he could become world class, but he’s not at that level currently.
Good effort and research but I'm sorry this is where you can use stats to suit your narrative. You are saying Sanchez was more productive! I prefer the old eye test to judge someone. You are criticising him padding his stats with penalties but the same goes for strikers.

best signing we have made in a long time:devil: moves the ball forward and attempts things no one else will.

I would love to see him and donny build something special on the pitch. Both slick, forward thinking, fast moving players who are difficult to defend against. Something we have missed at times.

Guy's a genius. Didn't want to convert that pen as half an hour remaining would have given us too long to gradually retreat and eventually concede a late equaliser. Decided to do the damage later in the same instead. Masterful!

In all seriousness though, he was really poor especially in the second half before scoring. Shows you have to just stick with him though, always likely to come up with something telling eventually. The goal and his assist were both world class

So he wasnt perfect yesterday, he certainly misplaced some passes and shots. But like usual he persevered even when things werent coming off. He continued to try even though he looked slightly tired once he came to play on the left and he got his rewards with contributions towards goals. 2 great finishes including the Rashford offside as well.

I have no doubt that this went under the radar so I'll make a big point of it. He made 4 tackles and 3 interceptions against Newcastle. The most tackles in the team, the most interceptions. More than Fred or McTominay who are in the areas you'd want players competing for and winning the ball. Also more than our players generally average in terms of ball winning in midfield. More than Pogba and more than Matic.

In fact its even more than Ander averaged per game for us in any season.

When talented attacking players are also willing to do this dirty work trying to win the ball back and get their team on the front foot - thats what makes some of them true greats. So when he makes that kind of contribution winning the ball, dont overlook it just because he also scored. Even if he hadn't scored he still had an effective game for us, despite the missed passes and the balloon shot at one point. Thats why he was easily motm for me

Sanchez for Arsenal in the years before we signed him was a lot more productive and had much stronger underlying metrics. He was similar to Bruno in that he gave the ball away an awful lot, but that was more justified in his case because he was getting and creating better chances, and actually involved in more chances that didn't have him shooting or assisting.

I’m not sure what narrative you think I want to depict. I’d like to be in a position where United do have elite players across the team, but we don’t. Bruno’s a good player, but thinking he performing at a similar level to KDB or peak Lampard is only going to lead to disappointment. He's no where near close to KDB for creativity, and no where near close to Lampard for being a goal scoring midfielder. He also isn't part of such good teams.

The big gap in Bruno’s game currently compared to other attacking midfielders who play similar roles is his relatively low involvement in any moves that don't see him shooting or assisting the actual chance. That could be two main things and is probably a combination of the two:
  • Quality of teammates letting him down and moves breaking down when he is no longer in possession.
  • Giving Bruno's fairly low pass completion rate and high shot volume, his decision making might also be at fault. Too often he is looking for passes he is incapable of consistently making, or taking low percentage shots on. The better option would actually be exercising patience, giving a more simple pass, retaining possession, which will lead to a better chance down the line, possibly back to Bruno for him to shoot or assist.
