He went into hiding when the team need his service. Still remember when he was only had 1 touch in 45 minutes, and that was a kick off.

Apparently, the old heads (Sir Alex, Wenger, Hodgson) admire his potential.

Once got scalded for saying he was Championship level at best.

Feel more convinced than ever.
It’s crazy really, obviously for Welbeck playing for United, playing under Fergie etc championship level would generally seem a massive drop down!!

But in reality, it’s hardly terrible

Anyone one of us as youngsters getting a chance at a team in the championship, would be in absolute heaven with the belief we’ve “made it” in football

Top quality football still, salaries ranging from £500k pa to £1million+ pa

Absolutely laughing

He was never cut out to be a goalscorer but he was a great system player. Fergie didn't drag a great player out of him, he just knew where and how to play him. Covering ground, stretching defenders and pressing high up the pitch was his thing. Over the years the story has become quite unfair towards him. He couldn't finish his dinner but he was a good footballer everywhere else. Funnily enough he would probably be more in demand from big teams now.
Yes he’d fit into a high pressing system really well. When I think of teams like Sheff United playing David McGoldrick it makes me mad when people say Welbeck is shit. He’s been unlucky with injuries and struggles with finishing but he’s a good footballer.
ironically he’s capable of the spectacular when he relies on pure instinct

He's over 30 having played almost his whole career in the prem. And now he's just signed for another prem team.

So your conviction is wrong.

Both Ferguson and Wenger have a great eye for forwards and they rated him. I think his development went completely scattered due to constant injuries. Hope it goes well for him at Brighton.

We keep seeing nonsense from people that just because someone isn't quite good enough for us they're a division or two below level.
It's odd.

Remember when we sold him and there were cries of United selling their soul from pundits and journos alike. Hilarious.

Heck, SAF went so far as to use the ol' coy 'we believe he's something special and it's important he keeps his feet on the ground' or whatever the exact quote was.

It's hyperbole.

He was really good in that defensive wide forward role during the Hodgson era with England but other than that he's had a very underwhelming career. Blighted by injuries mind.

Just because Prem clubs keep taking a pint on a player doesn’t make them good enough.

He wasn’t good enough for United
He wasn’t good enough for Arsenal
He wasn’t good enough for Watford

His wages and his own ego are likely why he hasn’t dropped down to the Championship but he’d probably do a decent job at that level

Really unsure about this signing, would be interested to know how much he is earning. I felt a lot more confident about signing Lallana. But he is 29 so should have a few years left in him, he's a very experienced prem player and he won't be first choice for us, more likely as an impact sub. But he is free and we need back up striking options and it is only a one year contract. You never know if he can stay injury free, he could turn out to be a very useful signing.

Across his entire Arsenal career he scored or assisted every 149 minutes whilst playing a roughly 50/50 split between CF and LW. Unfortunately, that entire Arsenal career saw him start just 78 games over five years. People act like he has an awful record, like he's the Manc Shane Long, but it's very difficult to score a lot of goals when your knees keep exploding.

The only time in the last five seasons that's he managed to start more than ten games was 17/18, where he scored 10 in 25, which is probably a fair indication of the kind of player you'll get if he stays fit. But, like, that's a pretty massive if.

That's the issue isn't it, if he can stay fit. I have far more confidence in Lallana staying fit than I do in Welbeck. But if we can he brings an interesting option to our attack. Worth the gamble on a free I guess, but I can't find how much we're paying him anywhere. If he can play regularly I imagine he'll feel he has a lot to prove, which can only be good for us, he is only 29.

I think his potential when he was younger was always dependent on him ironing out the major flaws in his game. His finishing and ability within the box. Don't think he scored one traditional header for us despite being 6ft 2in and didn't score many scrappy goals. I think that Bayern game summed him up under Moyes, he was running past Boateng with ease and causing all sorts of problems when he was getting the ball, he then gets a 1 v 1 to put us 1-0 up and he tries to chip Neuer and completely messes it up.

Never score double figure in the league throughout this career, not even once. In fact his best seasons have been with us, his best season with Arsenal end up only with 5 league goals. That’s piss poor career for premiere league striker.

in general yes, but
He has become a figure of fun but Fergie benched Rooney for Welbeck against Real Madrid. Which tells you something. For me in the category of Evans, Rafael, Chicharito of good players not given a chance under LvG.

I will always love him for how he made Ashley Cole do his hamstring in trying to keep up with him . On the side line, knocked the ball past him and put his turbo boosters on.. Ashley Cole tried to catch up but in that moment he pulled up and his hamstring was done haha

It was funny but remember Ashley was a world class LB at his best and I saw him put Ronaldo and other great forwards in his pocket. He was a prize cnut too which is what you need in your team at times.

I liked Danny, nice lad but he was never world class

Heard Graham Potter yesterday warning fans not to expect him to be the answer to all their goalscoring problems. Surely no one in their right mind expected him to be.

Hopefully stays fit at Brighton, has had a terrible time with injuries.

people will mock him but we would have been better off keeping him rather than hoping to bring falcao back to life. at the time the caf was creaming themselves at the thought of it and that we pulled off a coup. we could have used both him and chicharito in the years after we sold them tbf.

True we could have used Evans, Welcbeck, Hernandez, Rafael and Nani during LVG's time and possibly for the first two seasons under Mourinho. When you think that it was for players like Darmian and Rojo

Despite the early run for the goal, Injuries have obviously taken a toll on him and he lost much of his pace.

Still a neat player, and his linkup play which was alway his best attribute is still great.

Class today. Showed his usual hard work off the ball and great link player but topped off his performance with a super finish.
