Best performance in ages. I thought he was particularly impressive after the subs where he slotted in as a kind of hybrid CB, overall very good.

My best United player. Scott McT.
No fuss, do the work done, run your socks off.
The least paid first team player in United right?

I felt he was class yesterday. Covered every blade of grass. Defensively solid and moved the ball at a quick tempo. Was also good to see him finding those passes between the lines, too.

Back to his pre-lockdown form. And not a moment too soon.

That was the McTominay’s best game since Spurs at home last season when he came back from injury. He was imperious that game and he was yesterday too.

You know he's on form when he plays the right passes.
As he grows in confidence you'll see him develop better long range accuracy to go with his reading of the play in defence.

For now developing well and his international career will help immensely to boost his confidence.
But hey, he's just a headless robot right?

He thrives in fast-pased, high intensity games. Hence he looked great when we started to chase the win, instead of sitting deep and playing simple passes.

Great character, decent technique, good heading ability, shot and physical qualities. Needs playing time, some clear instructions from the coaches and have to develop better understanding of the game.

Him, VDB, Pogba and Bruno could form very balanced and effective midfield - hardworking and creative at the same time.

Loved this bit yesterday. Game's done at this point but he tears back from the half-way line to cover the runner and then clatters the striker. Leaves a few verbals behind as well!
Bruno gets it and Rashford scores....beautiful stuff.

Just re-watched the game, what a second half from him. Didn't put a foot wrong, complete performance. Interceptions, aerial duels, hold up play. Keeps it simple most of the time, makes himself available for pass and never loses focus.

Aside from his usual contribution, I was particularly impressed with his passing between the lines. Good vision, right weight.

Other than that I like how he commits soft fouls in safe areas. He keeps it clean but almost nothing goes past him.

I don't know why so many people don't rate him, he is still young and quite useful player already. Honestly I am not sure if he has any limitations to be a first choice defensive midfielder? Scored a couple of nice goals last season too, and can be a threat on corners.

Obviously players perform better when they are playing in right position or do what they do best. I like what I saw from Tommy especially when he moved to the right to cover for AWB who as Ole said was asked to move higher up. It helped him show his defensive work and his range of passing. Never seen any Scotland game but I heard he played as RCB. I am sure Robertson would love those switching side passes from him.

Much much more mobile than Matic.

Just realised that's some alliteration!

People are frustrated because they want an instant replacement for Matic and that's understandable. But they should understand that player development is not linear. Players develop aspects if their game differently.
I have always seen him as someone who with more discipline could replace Matic in the future and though i may be wrong, i see very similar qualities in the ball carrying and the way they breakup opposition play by committing soft fouls in less dangerous areas( tactical fouls )

To be honest I think the way McT and Matic carry the ball is the biggest difference. Matic has very good close control and looks very comfortable even in tight spaces. That's why I always rated him higher than Carrick for example. McTominay seems to be better passer than Matic already.

McTominay is different in style but technically sound so like I said before, I don't think he has any limitations at this point, unlike so many other midfield options.

I'd say Ole should focus on developing Tom because Matic is very very close to being too weak to play on this level.

Another example (which often people couldn’t see it) of Matic the ball watching again not trying to even bother to get back after losing the ball. It wasn’t like you can blame on fatigue when he only just came on after Bissaka’s goal.

Well done Scott for sensing the danger and running back, the basic of being midfielder and even Bruno also did the same thing. This wouldn’t happen if the pivot was Matic & Pogba and that‘s why the defense lacks protection with Matic & Pogba.

Anyone who just watched this clip would think McT came on as a late sub with Matic playing full game.

I've said it before but his performances always regressed when you play him on the left of the double pivot instead of the right. He's much more comfortable turning dribbling and passing on that right side.

Manchester Utd never lose, just run out of time

I'll be honest, my first thought on viewing that clip was that it was somewhat understandable after a long tiring game when we were winning 3-1. But yes, it does happen far too often. It's what McTominay and Fred do so much better than Matic and Pogba that it's not funny.

He was good. I hope people dont turn on him the next time he puts in an average or less performance though.

Ole must be tempted to start him against PSG again.

He is not a superstar so alot of fans will have an agenda against him. He gives the team what most teams need, fight.

No surprise when it was a game to fight, him and Fred started in midfield. He may not be a Pogba but he has a bigger impact than Pogba in this current team in terms of shape and midfield balance.

It shows, we need 2 DM's in every game.

Some poor usage of the ball at times, but still a huge performance, no less than I expected from him tonight tbh. Was aggressive and proactive all night.

I’m often critical but that was a serious midfield performance alongside Fred. His use of the ball is getting better.

MOTM for me. Huge presence in central midfield. Made it very difficult for PSG to play through the center which is important.

In these game where counter attacking is our main aim to score, having him and Fred shielding the backline, it plays to his strength.

Brilliant. Want to see him not lose this level for a run of 20-30 games and I think we can go far.

Struggled a bit at the start but got match better as the game went on. Made some excellent passes when Pogba came on as well.

Shame he couldn't score either of his headers from corners, though with the sheer number of bodies between him and the goal, it's not a surprise they got blocked/deflected. Thought he played reasonably well overall despite an absolutely stupid tackle for his yellow card.

This type of match suits him far more than facing an opponent parking the bus.

I cant believe we can produce a player like this.

Maybe he wont be world class but he has the ability to put a top class performance alot of the games he plays.

Was really impressed that he had the temperament to handle a yellow card all game against Neymar. Aside from that, what a rock.
This.

When he first got it I thought, shit, he's going to have to control this... and then I never even gave it a second thought in the second half such was his composure and temperament.
