They should try to find solutions for somehow closing the huge financial gap between the PL and the other European leagues and also maybe develop a new system for transfer windows, that helps the non-elite clubs. This would be more interesting and exciting than such an incestous super league.
That would be the ideal solution, but the elite clubs have no incentive to go along with a solution that would erode the advantages they have over the rest of the playing field.

Imagine not having owners, and all the money that teams had were money earnt from matchday, merchandise, league and cup winnings and tv deals. Imagine just waving goodbye to these pests we have in charge, having the members of the club getting votes for club director. Just waving goodbye to all these non-competetive NFL-type ideas of not having to earn your place.

It's all so very tiresome.

I would probably end up watching it to begin with, but I know I am going to hate it. Becoming far away from the sport I fell in love with as a child.

I reckon before the first season is over, I'd have given up on football. Money hungry little gremlins just taking over.

I should have known you’d turn up here. What kind of marketing role do you do for RM btw?

I love the idea. Obviously it is very profitable for Madrid, but today, in a little while I have to watch Madrid- Shaktar.
And the only strong match that I will see until February / March will be Inter.

With all due respect to Shaktar, I'd rather see a top team.
Against United we play every 6 or 7 years. Would it lose its charm if we played every year? Perhaps, but does Liverpool-United lose its charm for being played twice a year? For me the clásico is equally attractive.
What they have to do is maintain attractiveness with quarters/semifinals/final, and above all ensure that the second division is better than the current Europa League.

Spoken like someone who believes in a domestic style ESL, then again most Real and Barca affiliates do. We (any english club United or otherwise) won't allow that to happen.

Worryingly close to what they’re probably thinking. Cue endless mediocrity.
It's exactly what they're thinking. It's how it's done in America already where they own Tampa Bay Buccaneers who have been pumped just as ruthlessly as us.

Time to start investigating FiFA again. Make sure no bribes are taking place.

Also, can we just ban American ownership altogether?

I think I'm confused. What do you mean by domestic style ESL? And what is the problem with a strong second division and why wouldn't the English teams allow it?

Even these idea's been talked about by big clubs is making me fall further and further out of love with football especially at the top end of the sport.

This along with the PPV just been introduced shows how money is all that matters in the sport now.

If this stuff continues it will be time for me to find a new hobby.

Not sure how a movie can be compared to a football league. That movie is a one-off and it is always almost guaranteed to make a lot of money because of the fandom. A European Premier League is going to ruin the novelty. Fans will get tired and bored of seeing the same team playing each other all the time. This will be a catastrophe for football.
Neither can I, I was just correcting the information in the quoted post.

Knew it would finally happen even after so many said it won’t. It’s inevitable that this is the way football will go. I just hope the bubble bursts

Unpopular opinion: United and Liverpool are a big reason for the PL popularity. Isn't it only fair they have more of the power and more of the dough.

Letting fecking yanks decide what's best for football and for both Man Utd and Liverpool in general tells you how out of touch the game has become. They have showed their true colours during this pandemic

Could someone stick in a poll, so we can see who's in favour and who's not of the super league.

I’m still getting me head around the re branding of the competition from it being the European Champion Club’s Cup to the European Cup, then on the UEFA Champions League without them throwing in this nonsense.

Nobody can tell me this proposal has the fans in mind. It’s for a digital generation able to watch games from anywhere.

This sport is not for people who like to hop on a bus for a few hours in any weather and follow their team up and down the country, with the hopeful aspirations for an odd weekend or mid week break to a fancy exotic European destination to support them abroad anymore.

We need fans back in the grounds voicing their opinions of these ideas loud and clear.

I would think the English clubs would hold a lot of power in this league, especially if the EPL isnt touched and will continue to grow.
This kills La Liga, Bundrsliga etc. Why would they give a feck about Getafe away when they have City coming next week?
It could be a brilliant move by English sides to consolidate power.

People here keep saying that this is plan B after utter failure to get the project big picture off the ground but I actually believe this was the step 2 of initial plan. Step 1 was to reduce the number of games by downsizing the league and getting rid of the league cup and step 2 was to create use the games reduced to fit in the new European league. I really don't see how they can give everything up to simply play in this one league where United will most likely finish in bottom half every season and haemorrhage fans and sponsorship money because no one wants to be associated with Newcastle United of European league.

What matters to the money men at the end of the day is how much it sells for. Even if a Man Utd vs Real Madrid match becomes as anticipated as say a Man Utd vs Arsenal game, that is still equal to a significant amount of money to be made in a market they are currently not exploiting as much as they can. I personally would rather watch a less glamorous Man Utd vs Barcelona than Man Utd vs Sheffield Utd.

Also it would not be the first time or the last time a new competition is formed that changes tradition it has always happened including the Premier League which was founded as a money grab not to mention the UCL has changed so much over the years too.
This is not comparable with changes to the PL and the UCL. Yes there have been changes there but both competitions still allow clubs to qualify for/get promoted and reach the big stage. This is just bigger teams in a big team only league with other clubs left behind.

While I agree about your statement regarding the money men, I love watching the PL over a long season and for the special big team matches to come together during the UCL. For me, constant week in/week out matches and the foundations that competition will be built upon would not be exciting.

100%. Hence the reduction of games, which would allow this to happen.

however, to say we would finish ‘bottom half’ every season is ridiculous. You would Park a my have said that about Liverpool 4 years ago? Football is cyclical.

I think the parity in broadcasting revenue has allowed the "smaller" teams to spend way beyond what they should be. It also allows them to hold out for insane money knowing that even if they get relegated they have parachute money to last a year.
I still think its because teams like us and others end up paying those figures. The English premium has existed for years. A number of relegated clubs have struggled even with the parachute payments and recently promoted clubs have spent less and less unless financially backed by a millionaire.

Its happening lads. Its took 3 decades, but finally the fans dont have a voice anymore. We've been priced out for years anyway, but this is like the final chapter in this being a peoples game. I'm sick to death of this sport. No romance or story in it anymore.
Couldn't agree more. Non league football is becoming more and more my go to with each step towards the Americanisation of the top leagues.

How is it Liverpool after waiting 30 years to lift the PL trophy, now want to screw it over?

incredible hubris from that club!

The final nail in the coffin that football has been relentlessly building itself for 20+ years. Would really be quite hard to care anymore.

We can't keep making same mistakes we're making and hope for success because Football is Cyclical. Liverpool have actually made some good decisions behind the scenes and actually have a competent board so, they are reaping the reward of good decision making from the top with coherent strategy in terms of transfers and managerial appointments.

If there is no UCL, what would be the point of mid table clubs pushing towards UCL qualification and therefore expanding their team to get closer to the top teams. It would be a slap in the face for them.
Exactly, there would be no such thing as top 4 race without CL to qualify for. Imagine last season without top 4 race and Liverpool having effectively won the league by Christmas.

I see a lot of people saying they wouldn't watch it. Like feck they won't. I, for one, wouldn't like it because of the detrimental effects it'll have on the rest of the league, would still try to watch every single game.

I’ve been teetering on the edge for a good few years now, but this would be enough for me to call it quits with top-level football.

There’s just too much greed in the game, and clubs don't even bother pretending to care about the fans or welfare of the game anymore. There's very few genuinely likeable people in football these days. Football feels less of a competitive sport to me now, and more a series of soulless brands vying for financial superiority. I feel inceasingly alienated from the club I've supported all my life.

True, hadn’t thought off that angle
