Cost them the match. Smith has been disastrous as a player and captain this year. Has cost RR a final 4 place, as they had a good enough team to get there.

that’s basically confirmation of Rajasthan out of the tournament :(
Yeah I'd get rid of Smith in the off-season if I was RR. He's not a great batsman in T20 and there's no evidence he's a great captain either. Yes he had some success with the Aussie test side but he had a top-class bowling attack behind him.

Get him off the roster and bring in another wicket-taking quick. Someone like Ferguson (who's be horribly under-used by KKR this year) would be ideal.

Absolutely agree. Almost a 4 and a half hour match is just unacceptable. Umpires need to sort the unnecessary brakes and also they need to cut out one strategic break.
The TOs are for ads aren't they, doubt they can stop them.

Anyone know why Punjab wouldn’t pick Gayle for so long?

He’s been brilliant last 2 games when he was picked
I was scratching my head at this as well. The team was underperforming for so long and they had the Universe Boss on the bench. Crazy decision. I'm glad to see Nicky P showing his worth as well, even if it took him some time to eventually get going.

and tbh hasn't Gayle been poor? First game he made a 50 at 120 strike rate, but 5 sixes.. played a lot of dots

Did the same yesterday

I haven't seen the earlier match of Gayle's, but doesn't seem to have gone particularly well

 I actually have a photo of myself with Danny Morrison. Met him in a bar one night after a CPL match. I like him :)
does Lara ever commentate at the CPL?

He's on the 'dugout' option here which is less traditional comms and more a freewheeling chat, and he is super astute. He seems to read the game on another level..

Uthappa has been a poor signing for RR as well. They've made so many bad decisions it seems.

Nope, he doesn't. Off the top of my head I don't think I've ever heard him commentate at any point in my life. It is a shame, since from what you describe it sounds like he's someone worth listening to.

This is some collapse by RR here, especially considering the tiny total they're chasing

Knew RR would find a way to screw this up (sorry, only been following them for five minutes and I'm as gloomy as I am when United are playing!)

RRs team makeup is horrible
Yeah. They've got three no.3s in Smith, Stokes and Samson but only one specialist opener, no specialist finishers and only one wicket-taking bowler.

They seem to get loads of basics wrong too. Dropped catches, overthrows, run-outs, poor dismissals... all the stuff that happens when a team is being badly led and coached.

That said, they should win here. All they need is a run a ball with a couple of boundaries. Surely they can't mess that up...

Glad CSK is bottom. Once a great side but this season they have been horrendous. And more than the losses it's teh fact that they still wouldn't give chances to young players but will persist with Kedar Jadhav's, Piyush Chawla, Karn Sharma and even Watson is worry some.

What is the value in giving chances to young players?

It's not like football where you build them up for next season. There's going to be another auction and you get to retain 4, and none of the bench players are worth the retainer value.

Plus, there isn't anyone actually good on the bench.

That's a weird logic. SO you are saying what's the point of trying out a young talent like Rituraj or Jagdeesan but it is fine to try and give chances to Jadhav or Chawla and keep losing. Who knows maybe just maybe one of these young talents may actually do well and be the next superstar. You won't find out without trying. Imagine Mumbai had the same logic and continued to persist with Dhawal Kulkarni instead of Bumrah or Delhi never gave chance to the likes of Deshpande but continue to play Mohit Sharma.

Do you not accept that some players need to get their eye in before they strike out? Especially in Gayles first knock on entire tournament and when he still had 12 overs left?

Tewatia has been a revelation this season. My favourite new player that has emerged.

And Dhoni was still defending his choices and dads army philosophy yesterday even after another absolute thrashing

Auction going to be very interesting this time. Lots of teams (RR, CSK, KXIB, RCB) need to improve their bowling lineups urgently and find more wicket-takers.

Maybe we'll finally see the return of Pakistan players? Some of the bowlers would make a real difference to these teams.

Pooran is such a good hitter. He seems to make 30s and 40s but he hits the ball so cleanly every time.

Hard to see how KXIB fail to win from here. 64 to win off 60, with seven wickets left... just knock it around and they'll be fine.

Pooran is a special talent. Punjab suddenly look a top contentders to reach top 4. What a comeback story that would be.

Its the inclusion of Gayle. He gives them confidence and an X factor. Idiots not to have picked him from before.

Would love see Gayle and Pooran both with their eye in from 13 over out. The violence and carnage would be unprecedented

Really hope Punjab or Rajastan can replace KKR as the 4th team. Both teams have soul and are fun to watch: KKR are morbid and have no flair.

DC are tailing off really badly , Ponting is going to be absolutely livid with the intensity or the lack of it tonight . Need to get that one more win and get a place in the playoffs

Their bowling is still good but it's their batting minus dhawan that has gone off the boil. Shaw pant iyer and stoinins all have to regain their form.

They will be fine. You will always have a dip over 14 games good for them it’s now. The batters will recover just in time for play offs.
