Regarding penalties, goalkeepers should maybe stand a little behind the line if moving forward gives them more impetus to dive, just a thought.
yeah, that whats Dawson did more or less with his back foot.

It was great to see a good performance and beating a great team, and the three points are massive as well! Going into this group it is by no means a foregone conclusion that we will even go through, so starting off with 3 points in arguably the hardest game of the group is so important.

We are now looking at Leipzig at home and two games vs. Basaksehir. If we can get two wins and a draw from those, we would be in a great position.

Think we've found our new cb lads.

Year at villa
Year on the injury table
Now clubs best CB in his first game back

Start him and Lindelof at the weekend!

amazing. Couple of weeks ago, it was get rid of them all, and now ! awesome performance. Tuanzebe was the pick fractionally ahead of everyone else. Even pogba contributed so much, playing in the pocket . I still think he could play a deep lying midfield role for us

If we can possibly cut off their front three they've got a soft underbelly, it's going to be very hard though. 11/11 have to be ON it.
We did it! The formation was excellent and very effective in suffocating the service to their front three. It was clear before the game started the front three aren't up to much in terms of tracking back.

Not only that, but Ole changed the shape and got the victory. When he changed things around I have to say I was nervous, but it paid off massively as it led to more oppourtunities for us to win. PSG had no answer to those changes.

Amazing from all players and the manager, well done. 11/11 were ON IT.

So maybe Lindelof is not the problem. Then ...
That is a very interesting point.
Lindelof is a good player. And one who needs to be confident enough to play to his potential. So maybe the understanding with Maguire needs some work.
But I thought it was the midfield who deserve much credit. Fred and McTominay worked really hard and covered lots more ground than Pogba ever does. Not the same skills but fantastic efforts.
Great goal from Rashford.

10 points, as SAF always targeted.

Having a better squad is so so important.

at 1-1 today, we had Pogba and VdB to bring on instead of Lingard and Pareira. Such a massive difference in quality and allows us to actualy push for the win.

My main takeaways from the game.

1) The team wasn't absolute shit before and the team definitely isn't world class now. Nevertheless, it's showing good improvement.
2) The performance, especially defensively is much improved, I think, because
i) The team has far better match fitness than they had before
ii) We played 5 at the back
iii) The midfield offered far more protection than previously, for both fitness and team selection reasons.
3) Although weaknesses were better mitigated, they are still there. E.g. AWB's positioning is still suspect

What's heartening, is that the club didn't buy a new centerback and instead focused on getting the right winger because the club wanted to give Tuanzebe and Teden Mengi some time to develop and see if they can grow into the role. Seeing how composed Tuanzebe was in this game, his first after 10 months out, this is cause for optimism. Hopefully the gamble pays off.

Tuanzebe was great! As was AWB. Great win. Fantastic strike by Rashford to win it.

Wish there was a crowd. Struggle to get as excited watching footy without one.

We're such a jekyll and hyde team. Sometimes I genuinely wonder what we do on the training pitch and then you have nights like last night.

We were absolutely brilliant, to a man. There was a clear plan and we executed it pretty much to perfection. McTominay and Fred were absolutely everywhere and the best thing was they made really good decisions when they won the ball back, and having Bruno to then fire balls to the front two worked wonders and we could've scored more.

Even under Fergie we have played these types of away games, and set up quite similarly. In those we've barely had the ball and not been able to retain it whenever we win it back and it usually makes for a bit of a miserable evening. Last night was the complete opposite.

Tuanzebe coming in after 10 months out and pocketing Mbappe was so good to see. His attitude after the game was immense as well. Rashford was great and that strike was phenomenal. Telles was good and his delivery is class. Shaw was really good and even Lindelof coped fine with it. We were in control for most of the game really even without the ball.

Loved it.

Some good and indeed some very good performances, but overall mostly effective performances all round, last night.

I have never been at ease with the McTominay/Fred combination in mid-field, but last nights dual performance was very good they hunted down their quarry together and apparently Scott only had one contact lens for half the game, makes it more impressive... or perhaps he should play like that in every game()

Excellent saves from De Gea, nerves of steel for Bruno with re-taken pen, excellent finish from Marcus and perhaps best of all Axel Tuanzebe's cool and calm performance against WC striker...every impressive indeed, and maybe in Alex Telles we have at last found somebody who can take a decent corner kick???

Please can we just have this level of performance consistently!?
Well deserved victory in a tough game on paper( arguably our hardest group game)
These performances will give the lads a great confidence boost and hopefully it gives them a platform to improve on. We need to be a lot more clinical going forward and certain players need to start becoming more selfish in the box!

earlier games I thought our fitness wasn't great, that's the Newcastle game and now this where it has been excellent.Very good performance, not perfect, but to have a central defender with pace brings so much balance to this team. We weren't being carved open like we have been and that vast space between midfield and attack wasn't there either. Rash will get stick on his decision making and probably rightly so, it's certainly one aspect he has to work at, but one positive part of it is he is constantly getting into these great positions, he just needs to take it to the next level.Martial, hmmmm, not great, still did a couple of nice moves and won another penalty but we need a lot more from him.

Say what you will about the team under Ole, win or lose we're never boring.

Yesterday was one of the better games, he got the tactics right and the players were fired up. Some were very good, some were excellent, and thankfully we got the result.

Good to see DDG's for improving. Telles and Tuanzebe is very promising.

Where the grass is greener.
It's fair to say it was an understrength PSG team, but the old saying you can only beat what's put in front of you is so true. We came away with 3 points from the toughest game of the group.

I think Maguire, Pogba, Greenwood and possibly Cavani would start in a lot of people’s best eleven.
I highly doubt Pogba is near the majorities first 11, especially not against a team of this level. I can definitely see Greenwood and Cavani in though.

To think some fans on here made an argument at the back end of last season that we would be better of not getting ucl football because we would be humiliated by Europe's best..

We don't really get humiliated. Chelsea, Spurs and Arsenal get humiliated.

It certainly helped that David De Gea remembered that he is really a very good keeper and then played like one.

Tuanzebe was brilliant but the true test will be his performances under a more conventional back 4. That said, you can already tell he would excel partnering Maguire or Lindelof.

Fred needs to be starting every big game moving forward. He reminds me a bit of Kante with his work rate and ability to win back possession. With all the big performances, I’d say Fred also earned the MOTM.

To be fair, I don't think they played much worse than what they served up in the CL at the end of last season. They had periods where they played slick football but large parts of the match where they didn't necessarily threaten the opposition.
They missed Verrati big time.

Good point. Fred also reminded me of peak Kanté last night. Very effective.

Yes, think they all did a great job tonight. It’s hard to understand the transition from the poor PL games to this performance in such a short time.
Getting fitness and match sharpness finally after the lack of pre season. Many have said this but many still refused to listen.

didn't refuse to listen .... they just have deeply entrenched agendas against Ole and will use any incident to muddy the context and conversation.

All so they can claim they were right on an internet forum where nobody knows them.

Definitely the best performance I’ve seen from you guys in a long while, saying that, PSG were horrendous too, never seen them have a good game with my own eyes tbh...

Seems the ratings of Martial and Rashford has been mixed up...

Rashford was looking like he had lost all talent or at least caught a very bad case of Covid-19 just in time for the game. It truly is one of the worst performances I have ever seen up until the 85th minute. How on earth has he ended up with a 7.6 rating? Because he scored a winner? He probably should've scored three more before that.

And Martial, our star in the attack, who did not have his best game, yet outclassed PSG's defense. He got us a pen and was a real danger throughout the entire game. He got unlucky with the own-goal and it shouldn't affect his rating that much.

I have to admit, when I saw the starting eleven for this game I just laughed and thought that this would be Ole's last game. Fred and McTominay starting ahead of Van de Beek, Rashford playing on the right and Tuanzebe getting his first start and alongside Lindelof out of all people. Then playing Telles and Shaw at the same time seemed absolutely barking but everything just clicked. Not sure how much of the glory Ole deserves but all of these players who have been severely underperforming in the PL went out there and put in one of the most professional performances since the Fergie days. Sure, this PSG side was pretty poor but the way we have been performing this season I thought they would steamroll right over us. And while they had a bunch of injuries they still had their world-class front three. Not to mention that our biggest stars and contributors, Rashford and Fernandes, weren't playing at their best. The rest really showed us why they're players at this club in the first place.

Anyway here are my ratings from this terrific game:

De Gea - 8/10 - Old Dave is back. Another class performance.

Wan-Bissaka - 9/10 - He had some trouble getting past the PSG defense but other than that world class performance.
Tuanzebe - 9/10 - Oh, how we've waited for this. How we began to give up. Yet here he is. The answer.
Lindelof - 7/10 - Nothing spectacular, but he didn't put a foot wrong. Solid.
Shaw - 7/10 - Kind of the same as Lindelof. Worked surprisingly well alongside Telles.
Telles - 7/10 - Great debut. Those crosses had me licking my lips. Looking forward to see more.

McTominay - 6/10 - Shaky start, and boy did he have his hands full, but he came out on top. Really grew with the task.
Fernandes - 7/10 - Not his best game but he was still the brain behind everything. The heart of the team.
Fred - 9/10 - Didn't put a foot wrong. Won balls, started attacks. Ate up the PSG midfield.

Rashford - 3/10 - Like I said, one of the worst performances I've ever seen. If not for the goal, I'd give him 1/10.
Martial - 6/10 - When Rashford didn't show up, Martial had to do all the offensive work and he did it very well.

- - - - - -

Pogba - 6/10 - Looked really rusty and insecure but really got into it eventually.

A bit late, but WOW!

What a great performance! Not only was it a fully deserved win, our defense also looked competent and we beat a top class team!

I really don't know why we seem to play really well against top teams (City, Pool, PSG etc.) recently, while looking poor against mid-table teams so often.

Generally 10 points is good enough to get out of a group as long as that group doesn't contain a 0-0-6 whipping boy. Hopefully we can beat Basaksehir home and away and they take points off of someone else. After last night's win that should see us through

The lads were really fired up for this. De Gea especially. Barking at the defense, making big strong saves, even his distribution was excellent. There was a fire in his eyes that has been missed.
