Said before the Newcastle game i dont really rate him. Feel like a fool now

McTomminay might not be on the level of Pirlo, Zidane and Scholes, but his attitude and commitment is top notch, he always puts in a good shift and he always seems to rise to the big occasions

Very versatile and sometimes this can be to his detriment but just keeps on giving and believe he will get even better in time.

I do remember Carrick had to step into the defence at some stages in his career and he certainly proved is worth to Utd.

Good game, was everywhere. Needs to improve passing range.

I can see why Neville thinks he's a future CB, he's good defending one on one and his defensive positioning is really improving, he's just always going to be mediocre on the ball for a CM, to me he's our new O'Shea.
He doesn't look agile on the ball, but it's just an impression IMO. He makes a very good use on the ball, doesn't panic and has decent passing ability. I'd never compare him to O'Shea other than that he's quite versatile.

He is a warrior and must be the first name on the sheet when we play games of this nature.

He did really well considering he has not been playing full games recently but that will change if he keeps that level up.

Ideal game for him. Put fires out defensive midfielder, perfect for it. It's when teams sit back & we need creativity he looks lost. Squad game, you need players with different attributes per the situation.

I've given McTominay a lot of stick lately but he put in a really good performance yesterday in Paris.

I was worried about how easily Neymar was turning him in the first half. However, maybe surprisingly, after he got the yellow card last night McTominay levelled up. I was half expecting after he got booked that he would go on to get sent off. The yellow card seemed to inject a note of caution in his game though. After that he seemed to be paying extra attention to everything he was doing and that focus added a layer of composure to his game. He wasn't getting caught out of position trying to wrestle with PSG attackers, he was just doing the business, tracking the length of the field in front of our centre backs. Very promising.

I've often questioned whether McTominay has the positional understanding to play defensive midfield. Last night maybe shows he has got the brain for it.

My comparison is more from how I see their level, professional and reliable squad player, we need more on the ball in midfield if we are going to really challenge for the big trophies imo.

His passing yesterday wasn't bad, even though i still feel long term it has to be either him or Fred. officially the stats say his accuracy was 74 percent, but in truth, tht occured because he was playing the long ball. That stat doesn't show when long balls help you trap the opposition in their own half due to the threat of being exposed.

A year ago I'd agree, but since then I think he developed in every area of his game. I wouldn't cross him out just yet as a first team player if he keeps growing as a midfielder.

It's irrelevant as right now he seems to be a part of our best midfield combo.

In the lead up to the corner which lead to the goal you can clearly hear DDG shouting time to him but all he does is head the ball directly to Herrera who’s just outside the box.
But generally did his job reasonably well. I Was worried when he got booked and having to deal with an hour of Neymar , Di Maria and Mbappe.

I think his defensive positioning has definitely started to improve, on the ball I just don't see it, but I agree right now him and Fred are the combo that needs to start as they offer the best protection for the back 4 and a platform for the attack from the options we currently have.

Monstrous performance last night, broke everything up PSG threw at him. Didn't mind him roughing Neymar up one bit either. True ball winning performance that and allowed Fred to release the ball to Bruno and our wide players to initiate so many attacks. Both surely start against Chelsea.

His first touch is not worse than Pogba's (who can be erratic even if not pressed), his weakness is ball control while running. Not much to worry about right now.

His best games are the big games - can’t fault that

Started quite shocking, looked like would be a long night, even more impressive considering how well he played afterward.

Three man midfield in big games suits him. His covering to help double team players with full backs was great to see.
I like how he played on edge to snuff out attacks, and then once he got the yellow he was even more disciplined.

Ive always liked him. Rarely puts in a performance below about 6/10. Deserves a(nother) run in the team, probably alongside Fred. In the last year, most of our best form has coincided with those two being in our midfield.

Him in form is a big player for us, regardless of his shortcomings. Sometimes appears to channel prime Vidic despite definitely being a midfielder. It's great watching him shut them out with authority like it's the most important thing in the World. He's a proper gladiator, McDominate is bang on.

Consistency and passing range are his downfall, but he's easily young enough to improve and is still a vital cog in the machine despite that. I like him a lot. With beast mode on in the right kind of game, I wouldn't swap him for anyone.

I really want to see him as a right back just to see how he would perform. Think he would make a terrific right back.

really? I’ve seen nothing to suggest he should be a right back.

if prefer him to gain more experience in games like PSG so that he can improve and be a terrific midfielder.

Individually McTominay and Fred aren't great, but together they work very well and bring balance to the midfield. Potentially the best midfield partnership we've had since Carrick and Anderson.

I'd still like Scott to stop being the side pass genius at times. He has the forward pass in him, feel he needs to take a bit more risk and play the ball faster and forward not to AWB.

He did not and struggled with not having one last season. But if you watch the game now, he does have one. The big thing with Mctominay is that he's struggled over the last year to adapt to the DM position the club obviously wants him to play. This season, he seems to have done that. Mostly with his positioning in possession, positioning defensively and his forward passing. It's something to look out for.

Totally agree. Maybe not the best midfield we have on paper but on the pitch McT, Fred and Bruno seem to work really well.

Can only think it's Carrick's influence as to his step up in this regard.

Good point. I think it seems like his defensive positioning and decision making in regards to press/stand off/tackle/follow is improving. Possibly it has helped him with a few consecitive games as third CB for Scotland, as he seemed to grow into it match by match there.

His composure is pretty impressive. He looked like he might struggle early on the other night, looked clumsy and off the pace in a couple of tussles with Neymar but just kept doing his thing, played himself into the game and was flying by the end, dominant. So impressive in a young player on an occasion like that.

McTominay is one of those players thats main quality is non quantifiable. If you watch him or look at his stats he is good but not great at anything. I kept wondering what it is abut him then I realized that he has this presence and cntness about him. We are as a team just too nice. He isnt the levels of Keane but he is one of the few players that has that attitude. I think I heard the analogy 'If the opposition puts the ball goes into the nettles, we would go in there and get the ball for them and give them the ball back. McTominay would push them in the nettles and boot them in the arse on the way down.' We keep talking about lack of leadership. But I think its more a lack of cnts in our team.

He might have looked clumsy but it's more because of his style of running than anything else. He definitely didn't look off pace against Neymar though, who is top dribbler in the world and you see him leave other players in dust all the time. It's not like he's used to dealing with that kind of players too.

I agree about him growing into the game after a difficult start, that's great quality especially for young players. His confidence is growing and it shows.

Great to see him looking so composed in the past couple of games, he's been pretty bad since the restart but he looked more like the pre-lockdown McTominay against Newcastle & PSG.

He was neither bad nor good but his 2nd touch was a tackle a lot of the time, most unnatural midfielder United have in the squad at the moment.

He did his job but we should be aiming for someone better next transfer window.

Great work rate but poor on the ball. Unfortunately with him and Fred in the middle we will be limited creatively and unable to control the midfield together. Because Chelsea set up defensively him and Fred were pretty ineffective.
