I doubt there's anybody not backing our greatest young talent in years.

Ole is doing what he is supposed to do, protect the young lad and deal with any issues behind doors.

United fans don't need to not discuss news stories to protect the lad.
That might have been true before but there is good reason to believe that the more fans you have talking about salacious news stories, the more likely Mason is to be affected by them.

While fans' views were only available to players in niche radio phone-ins or odd newspaper segments, and just due to physical limitations there was only a certain amount of views that could be heard, now they're available to everyone all the time. And those stories build on top of each other.

We've had plenty of players mention their awareness of fans' getting on their back, and the impact it has. They've built up a kind of resilience to huge masses of people giving bastardised feedback in stadiums a few times a week, but they haven't built up a tolerance to deeply personal feedback aimed directly at them on social media, and discussed widely and fully among huge networks of people. And it has an impact beyond affecting a player's on-pitch performance that is irresponsible to dismiss.

You're preaching to the choir. These same people will jump on any obvious bs story so they can get a chance to crap on their own players. I'm convinced some people simply get a kick out if berating our own players and love acting all victimized how the club and players are letting them down, poor them.

Fecking pathetic. Clinging to any nonsense parroted by incredibly dodgy papers with no credibility so they can band together and shit on a kid. Fecking sad.

Mason has been letting himself and the club down, just because some of us are unwilling to pretend that the media is at fault for reporting what has happened rather than Mason himself for his behaviour, doesn't mean we are bad fans.

Ole has an incentive to lie and anyone who believes nothing happened is either ridiculously naive or lying to themselves.

He really doesn't need to look further than Marcus Rashford for an example of how to pull himself together. Probably the more talented of the two and could achieve anything. Let's hope its all overstated but its a worrying trend. While there are examples of players who achieved it all after similar issues, eg Giggs, there are infinitely more who failed to reach their potential

I'm better than Messi (even though I'm not)
Really hope he gets his act together. Hes on the cusp of becoming a truly great player and it would be a massive shame, most of all for himself, if he squanders it by being a tool.

More like Rashford and less like Morrison please
A handful of good performances doesn’t put you on the cusp of greatness. He has the potential to be but has a lot of hard work and dedication to reach that, something he seems to be struggling with right now. Hopefully he gets his act together.

 that's a great point actually, they see him turning up every bloody day!

he's an easy target for the press since the England debacle so I'm glad Ole is defending him strongly.

Who knows if there was really an issue or whether he was just a bit ill or had a slight injury, but lets hope he kicks on now.
It is so bloody obvious, it’s staring at you in the face. They see him come and go every day!

just shows how easy it is to make shit up, even though it can be easily disapproved.

why do they do it? Because our fanbase lap it up, they love the negativity far more than celebrating a win.

Ole has prepared well for that interview. The photograph is spot on.

Great to see the media was just spinning shite as usual. I hate how they control the narrative in every story. Hopefully everyone (myself included!) wipe Greenwood's slate clean for this. Love him to bits and desperately want to see him succeed as well as he can here - the stars are the limit for him.

Hopefully he can kick on now this season - starting tomorrow

I swear people get a kick out of believing this stuff, if we're playing well they have to find something else to overreact to.

It's amazing how people just forget that Ole claimed that Sanchez would return and make a success of his United career and that it was good to have Smalling returning and that he'd be valuable this season. He says what he needs to.

Well that puts to bed all the bollocks people in here have been saying and agreeing with. Think twice next time before you jump on some bollocks regarding an 18 year old.

I hope this puts to bed all the bollocks about these players not succeeding at United and I hope we all get back to supporting their performances in a United shirt.

Whether or not there were issues behind the scenes Ole is doing the right thing. Textbook SAF handling of the media, point it back at them and insulate the talent.

I'd agree with your point when applied to Twitter but not this place. You're overestimating the impact of forums and the idea that united fans as a collective need to show thought control/bias at all times lest we feed negative narratives is a little infantile. I've had it first hand from one of our former abused players that they don't care or look at these places.

I don't abuse our players and I'm not going to slag off Greenwood either I'm just sick of the calls to censor or one up each other on here. It's become relentless.

Not one single fan isn't right behind Greenwood and people need to remember that. Especially the above accusing fans of getting more out of criticising Greenwood than enjoying a win ffs

Quite the forceful defence by Ole, glad he's called out the doom mongers always hell bent on undermining the team and players

Is the implication here around the 'dysfunctional' point that we've briefed one thing (about Mason being disciplined) to the press which has then been contradicted immediately by Ole?

If so, I sort of see what he is getting at. Even if he is in all probability a cnut.

Ole raises an excellent point.

Is there a single time-stamped picture of Greenwood showing up late to training? Unless the press can provide one, these rumours aren't worth the paper they're written on.

The media are the lowest of the low, but this Greenwood nonsense originated from United fans.

This news was not in the media before those 2 wannabe United pundits were spouting their nonsense on here and the Caf lapped them up and believed their word.

Trust me I have worked in media when I finished school in the 90's. That story came straight from Red Cafe. It had no proper facts and was all conjecture which is the hallmarks of a classic made up story.

People condemning the media were not condemning the fact that they were arguing about a romour on here. May be the Mods should ban such threads.

I have seen alot of stories in the media since Fergie left which are proper copy and paste job from red cafe threads.

Posters on here need to be careful not to aid the discredited media with their clear agenda against United. I don't know how people fall for this nonsense all the time.

Of course the doom mongers are now switching to claiming that Ole is bullshitting. Anything to keep their outrages against own players going. Sad.

In fairness Ole lied to the press once when he was a player. He was sitting in a dressingroom speaking to a local norwegian journalist and blurted out that he was tired of getting so little gametime and that he wanted to leave. The journalist ran the story - OGS freaked because he knew Ferguson would go ballistic and claimed the journalist made the story up.

A few years later he admitted that he lied and that he had apologized to the journalist, saying he was so afraid of his career at United he had to do it.

So he is perfectly capable of lying if he has to.

Is Foden getting this scrutiny since the Iceland incident? Not from what I see or hear.

Like it or not, give the press an excuse and they'll go after a United player because it sells/gets clicks.

Ino regardless of anything off the pitch, Greenwood needed a rest as he'd played way too much in 2020. Hopefully a few weeks out of the team can help him.

It doesn’t put anything to bed. We see that OGS backs him now - fine. Hopefully it will help - of course all Man Utd supporters want Greenwood to succeed.
But it doesn’t mean press reported lies, only that OGS said so

If Solskjaer was going to lie about this, surely he wouldn't highlight a way for the media to prove it was a lie? He didn't need to bring up that there are photographers at the training sessions every day, because all it would take would be one journalist to ask them if Greenwood was late on any particular day to make him look an utter idiot if it was a lie.

Do you honestly think the media you've quoted are not dodgy? And they do not lie and create stories out of thin air to sell clicks?

If anyone has incentive to lie, it's them. That's how they make money. Selling clicks. Apparently to people like you.

The reports didn't say it was lateness to training. They said it was for a number of disciplinary breaches, including general tardiness. Making it entirely about turning up for training on time is a bit misleading.

Ok he's late, we've probably fined him the appropriate amount and we move on.

Let's get over it.

It's not like none of you have never been late for work ever!

Tbf this sounds exactly like the media to me  RedCafe's a shitshow though, I could certainly see something like that originating here
