Didn't notice the other day but was he on the bench against PSG?
No. He's injured. Apparently out for several weeks. Not sure if the nature of his injury has been announced. He wasn't in the training pics either the day after the Newcastle game or the pre-PSG training pics.

He was on the bench for the Spurs match but not the Newcastle game. I assume he got injured in training prior to the Newcastle game.

Elanga and Chong before were way too far from the first team for us to afford selling Lingard. Like someone said he could still do a job. If injuries come and we need a rest and need to win games, Lingard won´t be that big downgrade and is good system player, runs well, can press and that can help us maintain shape, youngsters can´t do that with way lower fitness levels. On top of that who knows maybe jesse can hit another purple patch in which he outperformed star players like alli for a while. Homegrown player who won´t cause a havoc for not playing. I don´t see why that is a problem to have him around untill this season. We will definitely use him even this one but for the next one. Chong could be ready to feature more and provide what Lingard does now, Elanga ready to have his breakthrough season if he stays fit, Pellistri or Traore in the mix too.

Next season he´s off but until that we have needed options and fill the gaps..
Chong ain’t getting game time on his loan

Where is he at the moment? Injured still? Personal problems?
Seems to have disappeared totally out of it.

He's clearly done here, hard to see where he goes up from here.

Where do we reckon he'll end up next season?

Brighton have shown that they like playing with broken toys like Welbeck and Lallana so maybe there.

Or possibly an extremely underwhelming replacement for Grealish if he leaves Villa.

Any club would be bonkers to pay anywhere close to 100k a week for Lingardinho. Poor dressing room influence - especially for the younger players - never mind his footballing ability (or lack thereof).

Hopefully he comes to his senses and is willing to take 25% of his wages to move to a Championship club, and even then I'm not sure if he's good enough to play there.

Don't rate Lingard at all but bolded part is obviously nonsense or do you have any evidence of this.

I wonder what happened to him between being first choice under Jose and saving our arse a few times as well as memeing the life out of Arsenal to falling this far into the mud.

I think the poster is talking about his attitude which has been called into question numerous times. The fact Ole, probably the least reluctant of managers to name & shame players, addressed it publicly says a lot.

Was full of confidence. Had issues in his personal life and never recovered from it on the pitch it seems.

It was just a very rare patch of purple form that some players experience during their career and can never reproduce. He was pretty average before that and has been average afterwards too.

Manchester Utd never lose, just run out of time

He's had three distinct different levels of form.

1) His average - this is how he generally played from when he broke into the team up until the end of 18/19. He wasn't amazing, but he was a decent squad level player who tended to help the team as a whole play better than our other squad level players. He shouldn't have been first choice but it's not his fault we were so poor in the transfer market that he remained better than any of our other options.

2) His purple period. Nothing more really needs to be said. A period of a couple of months where he was actually one of our better players, scored a few goals and just in general was very good.

3) His 19/20 form. Obviously where it all went to shit. Even in preseason I distinctly remember him having one of the worst matches I'd ever seen anybody play, and unfortunately that largely continued most of the season. Came out later that he had had some personal problems at the beginning of the season which likely started the rot, and then once it started he found it very difficult to turn it back around. He didn't play much in the second half of the season but when he did his performances were a bit better than they had been at the beginning although still not good enough.

If he can get back to his previous average I'm happy for him to stay here as a squad player. It's up to the management to judge whether that can happen, and up to him to take any chance to prove that he can.

Prem Loans that make some sense to me:
-West Brom (he and Gallagher would give them the option of playing 4-3-3 or he could get games when Diangana or Pereira are out or as the 10 when Gallagher is)

-Burnley (he could play wide whichever side McNeil isn't on or be a pressing front 2 option when they want actual pace -alongside Wood, they could even play 5-3-2 with him as a 10 and McNeil as a wingback at times)

-Wolves (they need another first team player somewhere, just a small squad, and don't have a 10 and might play a false 9 in him or one Podence/Neto/Traore up there which leaves nobody off the bench attacking-wise really apart from the probably not ready Fabio Silva anyways with Jimenez out. More likely if they move for a Prem fill-in they go for someone like Ighalo, Delap, Origi, Slimani or Tosun. I could also see Dele All being incredible here with their wingers, as either a false 9 or as a 10)

Haven't United got an option to activate another year on his contract?

If they have and they've not done it by January maybe that's a sign of them knowing there is a lack of interest in him and they don't want to be lumbered with a 100k a week problem.

Wouldn’t be surprised if he goes to Spurs and ends up with a medal.

Mourinho would probably like to take him (on a free?) just for the WUM.

I have it in the back of my mind that we activated the clause last season? Likely to be wrong though.

I see that his birthday is today, 28 years old. Can't believe he's approaching his 30 already.

I was checking on his stats and found that he only scored 33 goals for us in 209 games. The only season he broke double digits in goals scored is 2017/2018. Other seasons his best record was 6 goals.

Shocking stats for a forward that has just completed his 28 really.

He's not a forward to be fair though.

Not great numbers for an attacking midfielder either, but fair is fair.

He spent a good amount of time here playing as a winger from what I remember. He started playing as an attacking midfielder from 2017/2018 (which was his best season).

Solskjaer had a heck of a task on him getting rid of lingard and pereira. I can't believe I've even lived through the days where they were dead certain starters.

Will be involved in the squad vs Everton. Don't see the point at all just move him on but whatever.

Also apparently acting like a mentor figure to Greenwood according to Hirst :nervous:

Hope he gets a run out tonight, possibly from the bench, but he needs to prove he's fit, so he can get a decent move in January.
Wouldn't surprise me if he was mentoring Greenwood or some of the other youngsters, he seems to have the club at heart, just a shame his form has dipped drastically.

As silly as Lingard seems on social media he’s never been someone who has popped up in headlines for the wrong reasons. He’s not a Grealish or Alli or anything.
