Is Hearts of Stone also worth it?
100% yes!!! I'd echo the comments of the other replies. The best villain of the game and a really good story. I feel both DLC's have a tighter story than the main plot which suffers at a few points.

Blood and wine is amazing but in a different way.The colours and the feel of the environment is so different than the main game and Hearts of stone.

Started Hearts of Stone. Am on the first main task Geralt has been given - it's amusing to say the least :)

I'm playing this on the Switch currently and while I really like the world and the writing I can't help but feel that the combat is a bit crap. And that Roach navigates like Francesco Schettino.

The combat is what you make of it I think, depends on your playstyle. If you wanna just hack and slash you can set up for that (that's my main method tbh), but you can base your fights around your signs / potions etc for a better experience apparently.

Roach is an absolute knobhead though. You get used to it after a while.

How far through are you?

I mainly go for dodging, quen and hack'n'slash, with the occasional crossbow bolt, aard or igni sign. I don't see much point in using yrden with it's small radius meaning you'll be out of the circle in no time anyway (although you can probably improve that with some of your points).

I just made it to Skellige for the first time yesterday on a side quest. I think I'm level 13 or so. If I remember correctly I'm about to do a main quest in Novigrad at the Rosemary & Thyme or something like that. Which is just after a quest with Corinne Tilly.

Level 13 and skellige is dangerous as feck!

Yrden is really needed with certain types of fights, infact I think you've done a quest where you must have needed it with multiple wraiths/ghost thingies.

Levelling the signs up is class, I use the one that can turn people on their own people all the time.

It's not the greatest combat admittedly, but it's good enough imo.

Definitely the setting, story and music that make the game though.

Igni is probably my least used sign, find it pretty useless for the most part.

When the enhanced version goes live on PC im definitively playing it again for the third time.

The story has been the best experience for me in any game. The combat mechanics are not on the level of Horizon or GoW but theyre not awful either

I always thought that the combat is underwhelming. I used more or less the same moves from the first enemy to the last (except maybe ~5-10 fights in the whole main-campaign). Most enemies do exact the same few moves. There is way too little variation. I started to replay it once, but stopped after a few hours because of this. Anyway, its absolutely worth it to finish the main quest.

I did do a wraith contract where it was recommended to use yrden. The problem is though, that the radius is so small that as soon as you start using your sword you move outside it anyway.
That's your first problem.
Well, it was that or not play it at all so. It runs quite well, but you can also tell how pretty it would have been on more powerful hardware.

That one is deadly but can be short-lived. I've also eaten a few cross-bow bolts trying to set it off but it's worth it.

I liked Igni. If load up a set of armour with extra Igni glyphs you can deal a fair bit of damage to people.

Barely started the DLC for this. Going to wait until Series X enhanced version and it's basically going to feel like a brand new game :D

Although it won't stop Geralt handling like a boat...

I was confused because I thought you were talking about a mod...I hadn’t heard about the official update. I wonder if it’ll be much of an improvement to what I have running. Maybe the ray-tracing?

I've not touched the DLC either, on a run through now so should get close to the end as the new consoles release. Do saves carry over to new consoles? If so I'll do the DLCs on the new consoles. Go in fresh!

The DLCs are better than the main game for me, particularly Blood and Wine which is brilliant.

Amazing how I went from having so much fun to being majorly pissed off, 2 main missions into expansion. Like the fights are purposely designed just to wind you up, insta death from some whirlwind bullshit is ridiculous !

It took me a few death to realize that I absolutely needed to dodge that and that I could anticipate it by keeping an eye on that fella.

Yeah took me a couple goes to beat him, it just seems like a ridiculous leap in difficulty just for the sake of it.

You can't even press whatever button it is to keep track of him either, just keeps teleporting like the cnut he is, then whirlwinds as you go in for an attack and boom, you're dead.

There are signals which attack he is about to do but with the camera flying everywhere and him teleporting it's quite hard to figure out imo.

Plus I'm shit at games.

I've been really annoyed with the lock on system as well. Like, I can see the healthbar of a dude, but I'm not allowed to lock on until I get way up in his face. And then the cnut teleports. :annoyed:

I agree on the leap in difficulty but maybe it was coincidental but I was starting to worry about the lack of challenge for +30 level characters when you try to see everything loosely related to the main story you level up quickly. So it was welcomed that when I started both expansion main quests most basic opponents were at least level 32 and were somehow smarter and sometimes have crazy skills and one hit kills abilities. The other discovery is that while signs aren't that important before that, it becomes a lot more important, in particular axii because you have to deal with lots of skilled opponents knocking them down and putting them out of fight is important even if it's just for a few seconds.

Apparently this is playable in VR as well as RDR2 - got an Oculus Quest 2 this weekend so will have to look into that.

Definitely with the signs, mainly just for crowd control though.

I once read somewhere if you have to die in a game to figure something out it's bad design. I feel you have to do against the mage to figure the whirlwind thing out. You should be able to go through a game without dying on your first playthrough if you're smart/good enough, if it is well designed.

Maybe I just didn't see the whirlwind quick enough but it for sure seems a tad unfair with the one touch kill.

I don't know if I agree with the quote in general but regarding the mage it's probably true because even though he didn't one shot me because I started with Quen since you don't have any armor, so while I saw how much damage he can do I didn't die per se on the first occasion. The prince was an interesting one though because since I play with ligh armor dodging is the base and I dodged from the beginning so I wonder how people using the ursine armor dealt with him since I believe that he is supposed to one shot you with one of his moves and some players aren't used to dodge as much as others.

Any update on when the PS5 update gets released? I want to play this but waiting for the update.
Thank you.
I don't know. I guess when Cyberpunk is fixed, as I presume they got everyone working on that

I do but I’ve just got a lot to catch up on
I'm the same tbh  missed TLOU originally and only played it in lead up to 2 coming out.

Not played God of War yet either which everyone raves about.

And keep buying extra games on sale which I clearly have no time to play.
