Plea and Thuram were good during the restart in Germany...funny that MGB have conceded a lot of possession and conceded a lot of shots at home against an average RM side....but Rose is being lauded again. RM lost their first group game to Shaktar.

And the manager's team collapsed at home from 2-nil up. I'm sure he's a talented manager who has good tactics and can be more successful, but he's over hyped and needs more time to prove himself

Thuram is getting a lot of credit today but Plea for me was better.
Yeah, Plea looked like their driving force. Felt like they fecked up every single counter after they took him off.

They are always "overhyped" and "hipster" until it shifts to "why can't we sign guys like that?"..

Exactly, people just finding reasons to protect their loved ones.
Overhyped:lol: If anything, he is so underappreciated.

How the hell did Gladbach contrive to drop points from that situation?!
Anyone watch the game? Was it poor game management? Lack of luck maybe?
Looks like Rose is on a mission to draw as many games as he can this season!!

Looked tired physically and mentally at the end.

That there is the issue with playing such a demanding brand of football.
Sounds like it was a decent game by all accounts though.

In fairness Gladbach had several chances to increase their lead today and his players let him down. I don't think both Plea and Thuram should have come off though.

Very unfortunate not to win the game tonight against one of the most expensively assembled teams in the world after going 2-0 up IMO.

The first Gladbach goal was a classic illustration of Rose's combination play, movement and the blind side run which opened up the diagonal which sliced Madrid up like a knife through butter who had world class CBs.

Gladbach is handicapped against teams like Madrid who have far superior players in numerous areas of the pitch but Rose's tactical nous bridged the gap and almost got them a victory IMO. Madrid basically scored from two crosses into the box that would've been dealt with if Gladbach had someone aerially imposing in the box IMO.

But having said that, it just shows you what a sterling job he's doing at Gladbach that people criticise him for drawing a game against Real Madrid.

Plea and Thuram had to come off because Rose doesn't have the strength in depth that big clubs in Europe have the privilege of having. Games are coming thick and fast and he can't afford to risks and has to look at the season in it's entirety.

Spot on analysis. One thing that I noticed with these "hipster coaches" is that they have mobile ball playing CBs, but for some reason they are averse to having someone like Smalling and Maguire. Hence they get punished in a lot of situations when dealing with crosses or balls over the top.

It's not a criticism of Rose, just a general observation with the new age coaches.

Ole needs to add this bloke to his coaching team.
The only way this is going to work is if Ole take the DoF mantle. Otherwise I can't see Marco taking a step down considering Woody had him on a shortlist to replace Jose back in 2018.

Just football. Monumental effort and quite a bit of "luck" to take a 2-0 lead in the first place, game evened itself at the end when they tired and threw the kitchen sink at their box

How is he over hyped?
Because when people look at a "progressive" manager or the next best things, especially from Germany, his name comes up because of his ties to Klopp and how he tactically sets up his Gladbach teams akin to RB Salzburg (where he developed his tactical foundations). It's his second season and the club were in the ascendancy before he came to the club. So while he has improved them, it's not been by this reversal of fortune or very good managerial skills only.

He doesn't have a lot to stand on, but people identify him as one of the next best things more because of his pedigree from RB Salzburg and because they press well as a team.

Now I didn't watch the game tonight so can't comment on that, but your last paragraph is strange.
Let's not forget Real lost their first game, at home to Shakhtar, so maybe a little bit of context is required around a draw especially given the nature of how the result transpired? Isn't that the reason for the perceived criticism?

I felt the lack of Zakaria allowed Real Madrid more room in midfield than they'd usually have against this Gladbach team, but in truth Gladbach should still have won the game with those two breakaway's at the end. Marcus Thuram had a good game, not just the two goals he bagged, his positioning when Gladbach were out of possession was very good and he kept the discipline and workrate up all game.

His name never came up because of Klopp, eventhough many label him as the next Klopp and he played under Klopp and Klopp has lavished praise on him. But rather he's been praised by fellow coaches and players for his ability to coach which has impressed them. His name came about after he won the UYL with Salzburg playing a brand of football that was expressive but also maintained structure.

Now I'm not saying he's nailed on to be a great coach, because to do that you need a bit of luck too. But he's someone that has the nous and know how to implement a play style which has caught the eye.

Yes, a play style that was undertaken at Salzburg even before he got there and is implemented in the youth system all the way up to the senior team...the same system that is played in the RB football club cluster, that includes RB Leipzig. It's an effective way of playing and has it's pros and cons. It's the only play style he knows and hasn't had to deviate from it or adjust it, yet.

That play style at the RB clubs has been ingrained there by Ralf Rangnick hence why Rose was the perfect fit to take charge due to his style of coaching. The same applies for Nagelsmann at Leipzig and it breeds continuity and stability.

And you say he hasn't had to deviate away from his natural inclination to impose his game. But I would disagree and say that tonight was one example of him deviating away from a aggressive high press because he likely knew he couldn't maintain defensive structure on the turnover. But he still tried to impose his game in transitions.

When he took over at Gladbach he took over from Dieter Hecking who played a very pragmatic style and Rose in his first preaseason prepared the team to play a fast transition play style which he successfully implemented.

Zakaria is a big miss mate and when he was available it allowed Rose to sacrifice defensive stability for goals due to Zakaria being extremely dominant at controlling the space behind him high up the the pitch.

Yeah, when I watched them last season he was crucial at dropping in to split the CB's as well as covering so much ground athletically and intelligently that he frees the forward line up as you say, a very rounded DM/Sweeper..

He's a containment specialist that not only is he dominant at controlling defensive zones he has the ability to attack the space in offensive transition which completely destroys opposition structure which opens the whole pitch up which gives Gladbach a numerical advantage. He's a big big miss for them and they have no one who can adequately replace him. Zakaria and Neuhaus in tandem are a good partnership.

Is Zakaria being eased back in like Konate at Leipzig?

If they press well as a team, that's a very good sign of a very good coach no?

I don't know much abt him. Just pointing that bit out.

I think people get too caught up with high pressure or the midfield pressure etc which is applied off the ball and completely forget what Rose, Nagelsmann, Hassenhuttl etc implement in offensive transition which should be noted IMHO.

I dont know a thing about this guy as a manager and not gonna pretend that i do but its really pathetic watching certain section of this forum hiding in shadows just waiting a moment to pop and take a swing at other managers. Best part its not because they have poor opinion of them, they feel threatned by even mentioning their names in here.

Its really mental that you cant actually mention names of other managers in here no more without weirdos take that as some kind of a attack on Ole.

His name came up first when he won the youth league with Salzburg, then the next year he made an EL semi when he took over the first team and when he joined Gladbach the team immediately clicked as well, earning 10 points more than his predecessor and now he's got them competing with Inter and Real. All while playing attractive football with a clear identity. Bringing up Klopp or his nationality smells like cheap attempt at talking him down, he's getting the plaudits based on sporting merit, he earned them on the pitch.

You're being silly and are completely ignoring the fact that Rose has a significant disadvantage against the likes of Madrid and Inter before in game week 1. You're aren't adding anything of value to this thread and it seems like you're waiting for Rose to slip up so you can bump this thread and gloat, which you will get the opportunity to do this season because he will lose games.

No, I'm just asking for a bit of realism and context.
A draw from what was a very commanding position, two goals to the good with essentially 7 minutes left to play is not a good result, no matter which way you try and swing it.

Had you told Rose they would draw before the game he would have probably been happy, but context is the key, ask him now and he'd say a draw is a bad result.

Also against a team that lost at home to a lesser team than Gladbach last week, again context is key.
