Absolutely love Fred. He's the type of player successful teams are built on. Underrated, flys under the radar and extremely hard working.

Love live Pastor Fred!

his passing and first touch are the reason, it's hit and miss

off the ball he's absolutely immense, one of the best in the league IMO

Park Ji Sung 2. He's awesome. He's often our most important player in big games. Tenacious and streetwise in tight spaces. We'd be lost without him to be honest in big games.

He must be a cyborg in disguise. That's the only explanation I can see for that level of energy.

Agreed but once you're a 'flop' you wont change gereral opinions until you get highlighted on match of the day or Monday night football type analysis. He's still frustratingly sloppy sometimes though.

An utter pest of a footballer, constantly harassing people and nicking balls away at just the right times. He and Mctominay were almost as important as Bruno in our Feb to March renaissance and should be nailed on starters against all the top sides. They compliment each other very well and give us a real platform to build on. Impressive stuff.

Fred was our best player last season before the lockdown, and this season, now that he's getting the same consistent run of games, he's starting to show that form again. It's not a surprise to those of us who saw his value last season. IMO, he's a big factor in our recent improved performances. And he can still be better on the ball, he is a better passer than he has shown so far.

He makes such a difference to the speed of our play and it’s brilliant watching him buzzing and harassing the opposition. Great fun.

Where the grass is greener.
If he could tighten up his passing it would take him to another level. There's plenty of positives, but you can see where teams look to make him pay, his first touch being one of the obvious areas that gets exploited.

He'd be a top class player if he wasn't so damned inconsistent and sloppy on the ball. He's brilliant at breaking up play and he is capable of quality passes - but then he gives the ball away in the most infuriating fashion possible. Or gets pressed and tackled in his own half...

He's one of my favourite players in the squad though. I'm not sure why.

For me Fred was our player of the season last year until Bruno arrived. During our great form prior to lockdown he was fundamental to the team and I think he was unfortunate to not start as many games when the league resumed.

One thing I noticed midway through last season was that alot of opposition players began to target him and chase him down putting him under pressure.

While he is still prone to the occasional error, I think this is mainly due to how the opposition usually target him. If anything it's a compliment to how much of a threat he is.

I can't remember a player so consistently winning the ball back for the team via tackles or interceptions since possibly Kante when he was at Leicester or before that... Makelele?

And his passing is more progressive than those players, but some people just seem to sit and count the one or two passes he doesn't complete and use that as some kind of proof that he's not good enough. Madness, honestly. He should be one of the first names on the team sheet, it's absolutely clear as day that we are a far far far more impressive team - especially defensively - when he plays.

Off the top of my head:
3 games this season where Fred didn't start - 11 goals conceder.
3 games this season Fred has started - 1 goal conceded (a ridiculous own goal)

I think he had two assists tonight and 2 pre assists....but yeah he can be sloppy.

He is outstanding though. I said on here last season that he is the best midfielder in league and I stand by that
Not that I’m here to criticise Fred, but that’s a hell of a statement to make about a midfielder with so few assists & goals for us (irrespective of his actual position).

Certainly a good player, but you really believe he’s better than anything City or Liverpool have in midfield?

Why do people say he's a shit passer? He loves that forward pass. Some fans don't like him probably because they've been scarred by his initial games when he first came or because he's not the typical European midfielder

He does get underrated. Pep wanted him too but we're lucky we got him. Very slow burner but definitely needs to play often and consistently to show his elite level football. He cannot be dropped. Even Bruno can as we saw today.

I never rated him unfortunately, I'll do penance for that. He is really a great player with fantastic warrior spirit, good vision and a perpetual engine.

Ok I should qualify it by saying KDB is obviously a better footballer but for that defensive midfield position, yes I think Fred is the best, Fernandinho and Kante in recent seasons but fred for me is now better than both. Who else is better in that position? Too early for Partey yet to be in the conversation

Nail on the head. He’s great at what he does, and one of the main reasons that we’re good against the big teams, and struggle against the smaller ones.

His first touch is a bigger issue than his passing, most of his stray passes are a result of a poor touch and being hurried. It’s a shame because it’s probably the main thing stopping him from being one of the top midfielders in the league.

He's got great energy and is great at winning the ball back but his passing is still crap and he loses the ball too many times.

I like him and he has a place in this squad but he needs to improve on the ball.

His work rate and attitude are fantastic. His faults are that he wants too long on the ball, which means he can lose possession when pressed quickly, but each player has their strengths and weaknesses. If he works on this element to his game then he would be world class. He has a really good eye for a pass when he is given time on the ball. Another fantastic workman like performance tonight.

He's immense. Nothing new.

His problem is that his mistakes are usually howlers near our goal or in a dangerous area. His first season having many of these.

This is the problem. From deep he makes you nervous at times. Can’t fault anything else though.

4 full games in a row in about 10 days. This guy has insane stamina, and fight for every ball. Really like him.

Shakhtar Fred is the best version of Fred and it's showing tonight.
I never saw him for them, how did he play for them compared to how he does for us? Were there qualities at Shakhtar we've yet to see?

Astonishing levels of commitment, fitness and quality.
