Real or imagined competitive advantage is no reason to inflict arbitrary, extra mental and physical tolls on athletes.

Many of them will have to participate in the Euro next summer as well, without protection we will see even more burnout and injuries next season.

Every other major league is doing it and fixture congestion is insane. No Brainer.

Managers have to accept some responsibility; they are chosing not to rest players, despite knowing the increased risks.

There’s far too many games to have just 3 subs. It’s crazy

I wonder why it was gone against in the premier league where there are more matches to be played within a short period than other leagues
Because it favours the big teams with big squads, none moreso than his.

It does hinder us in Europe though, ad usual for the PL, where the players are not as well rested.

The big clubs also have to play european matches, their players are resting and playing 1 game a week while the European clubs are having to travel there, play a match then back again, then play again on the weekend.

Honestly 2 extra subs won't make THAT much difference as usually they're a good player on the pitch already.
It makes a huge difference.you can change half of your starting line up. Massive difference in tactics and fresh legs

Yeah, it would suit us down to the ground, as much as we don't have any real game changers (Cavani could be) our depth is impressive, but it wouldn't be fair on the smaller teams. 4 is fair enough.
Huh? Did you not see the Leipzig game? I’d say bringing Bruno and Rashford on had a pretty big impact.

I agree it’s probably not ideal for the smaller teams, but then again, if they get a few muscle injuries to first team players, they’re left with even smaller squads.

Managers should use their squads and rotate the players.

I don't wanna hear the likes of Pep or Lampard moaning about tiredness when they pick Mount or De Bruyne every fecking game.

If the bottom half clubs aren't willing to accept 5 subs then clubshould just charge the 'collective' PL TV income pot for injured player salaries and any player depreciation.

Well that's it.

English teams will now be at a serious disadvantage by the time the latter stages of the Europa/CL comes around.
Its honestly a joke. Its catered to 10 clubs in the PL who dont bring eyes to the product. They take money from the prize pool that big sides bring then cry about level playing fields as they play reserves in FA and Carling cup games and as a result get elininated, as they tell us rotate your players more.
Oh and that CB will cost you 50m thank you very much.

I'd have more sympathy for this idea if the coaches who call for it stopped abusing the substitute system to waste time.

Pep already does loads of rotating, so what's his problem?

His failure to properly strengthen their attack is his mistake, not down to the amount of subs allowed.

Pep leads call for change that would benefit Pep most of all.
Yep.
He'll be saying there should be a rule that any 50m bid they place has to be accepted for any player next.

Like @duffer said, if managers choose to start the same players every game, then muscular injuries are completely on them. The clubs calling for this generally have the biggest squads, they should try using them.

This will benefit the bigger clubs who have better squads obviously but I think this is a change that must be made permanent. Less injuries/fatigue and will also benefit the England national team I think.

It will also benefit the Premier League as a whole. We've seen how accommodating other FAs are with fixture scheduling with regards to teams in European competitions. Well, that's never been the case with the Premier League, but now it's just completely insane. This will allow teams that are in Europe to not ruin their players, which supports their efforts in Europe that is to the benefit of the league.

If two thirds of the clubs can't agree on this, maybe this should be voted on by the players themselves.

Why? He is normally starting De Bruyne and Sterling anyway. taken them off for a rest when they are 2 goals up is not helping them win the games.

Almost as bad as changing the transfer window so it closed earlier then everyone else... What could possibly go wrong? :wenger:

Worth noting that Solskjaer and Klopp agree with Pep.

As they would given that they are expected to compete in multiple competitions, unlike lesser teams who can happily focus on just the PL. And they are competing in Europe with teams who haven't been placed at a disadvantage by being restricted to three substitutes.

I also can't fathom how a system that will inevitably see more of the best players get injured and/or burn out can be good.

The PL seem to be inflicted with a need to try to be different to everyone else, be it in terms of this, how they interpret certain rules, their use of VAR, having a transfer window that was out of synch with that of other leagues, winter breaks, etc. Even when their approach is clearly worse.

I think it’s an unfair advantage to the bigger clubs with better squads. More game changers to come off the bench.

They could maybe allow one extra substitution, but only from the 75th minute or something like that.
what makes our league so different others in Europe?
Also massive disadvantage for all EPL teams in CL and Europa Cup.

Just do 3 normal subs + 2 under 23 / academy players.
It'll allow far more young players a chance to break into the first team and still give the first team players a break.

That would just help the big teams though. Doubt smaller teams would risk it most of the time.
I think it would mainly help us.

Its undemocratic to ask revote. It fair for all teams and they ought to be prepared.

what next? Full season transfer window? There are so many excuses and silly demands by the elites...

Their leagues voted for it? The majority of Premier League clubs didn’t want it.

The FA does not want teams to do well in Europe. Otherwise 5 subs is a no brainer in these circumstances.

I believe all the teams took a vote, nothing to do with the FA.

5 subs clearly favours the bigger teams, so I can see why clubs in the bottom half wouldn’t vote for it.

I bet he wants 5 subs. Given the defenders on his bench cost the same as some teams.

True but FA has a duty to protect all teams, big and small. Plus if they really want English teams to do well in Europe this season, they should perhaps have not left this to the vagaries of a voting process.
