Remember seeing a discussion almost last year online from La Liga fans raving he was a more justified version of Sancho with less hype. Looks to be the case and a good example of scouting and accommodating a player to a functioning team.

I feel that's pushing it Torres hasn't had a season like Sancho did last season so he's above him at the moment. All though this season Sancho has been a little disappointing. And Torres did okay for a very badly manage Valencia team from top to bottom. The price tag is the big thing though since Torres basically cost 100M less and they have a similar ceiling imo.

Hattrick today, tidy player and seems to have an eye for goal with some great work ethics, outshone Sane who he was the replacement for.

So many City fans on Bluemoon had written him off already. Great game from him tonight against top quality opposition.
Written him off when? He seems to have started brightly for City but I can't say I've watched all their games. It was quite clearly to anyone who'd watched him at Valencia that he'd be a rough diamond with lots of room to develop.

Problems is with your post you quoted bluemoon which for the most part has plenty of idiots, most city fans I know can see a hell of a lot of promise but we've not really seen him out wide yet where he's probably most effective and only through the middle of the park where his workrate and movement have been great but he hasn't seen as much of the ball as he would out wide

Not the impression i got at all, quite the contrary. And why would they do that? He's been scoring and playing better.

He's a real talent and is very versatile.

He's been good for City IMO. So far his biggest strength has been his off the ball runs which have generated a good amount of goals and goal attempts.

Probably cause it’s blue moon, quite possibly the worst football forum out there and downright disgusting at times.

Because he's not Sane and they want the sas front 3 back. He was getting bashed for being slow even before we signed him.

Is he slow. Certainly didn't look like it, yesterday. But I had never seen him play before

He was always a bargain. Looked a top prospect, surprised people where questioning him. For the money City got him for he was an absolute no brainer.
I don't understand why him playing on the right while being right footed wasn't enough to have his fee be like 50M. Griezmann had a much better goalscoring record at Sociedad (older) but same deal, and I would have thought a 6 in 34 starts goal record like Torres had at Valencia last 2 seasons would be looked at likely to be worth a 10 goal or so season if he'd been in his ideal position on the left cutting in. And a 20 year old who can put up 10 goals in a league season out wide, I mean not a lot of those out there, certainly 24M seems more like a fee for a 23-24 year old putting up those numbers in a big league, not a 20 year old.

His ceiling and even final position is tough to say because he seems to be a fairly off ball effective player.

Yeah, it's hard to say what is his best position. Right now I'd say wide left or a 'false 9'.

Indeed. £24m these days is a low fee so whilst he is tricky in that you have to figure out his final position, you can still get decent numbers out of him whilst he continues to develop and then figure out his position. Man City blow crazy money on their defence but in the forward positions they are actually quite good at getting value.

To think he only cost a few mil more than Dan James. The quality difference is night and day.
What's Dan James got to do with anything? We could easily be saying to think he cost 80m less than Sancho.

So Torres was a good price, but was he not in final year of contract at a team who needed the cash? City with their Spanish connection did their groundwork.

Struggled on the left, far better on the right imho. Having himself and Cancelo on the left was weird. Two right footers. Should have played on the right with Mahrez playing for the u23's.

It's strange how both Mahrez and Bernardo have regressed so much.

I literally didn't know he was playing until 1 minute before half time, and that's only because Neville mentioned him.

Someone said the difference between him and James is night and day. Not sure about that. The difference between him and Sterling is though. Sterling got more involved in the game in 2 minutes than Torres did in 60 odd

Bernardo just ran himself into the ground, I think we're seeing the real Bernardo now, this is more his real level, a good player who gives his all but he's no David Silva. Mahrez numbers will likely end up decent again but he's such a greedy square peg in a round hole in our system. He barely presses without the ball, jogs back slower than Rodri. For all his flaws Walker still has to do the defensive work of 2 (Compare that to Kane and Son today). He's just a bad fit tactically and I think Pep just refuses to admit he got it wrong, same with Rodri.

They both seem to create space well but then insist on trying to create it again and again instead of passing the fecking ball.

I seriously wish you guys had got Sanchez and we had signed Mahrez. It probably would have been better for all parties. Sanchez would have done a fine job for Pep and Mahrez would have been amazing for us.

I actually agree, Mahrez would flourish in a team like yours where he wouldn't be asked to fit in such a rigid system. Not being disrespectful but Ole's tactical plan seems to be let the forwards do what they do instead of the almost robotic nature at City. Mahrez would likely thrive under that (though he'd still offer you nothing defensively) but with Fred and McTominay to help the defence instead of just Rodri I think it'd work. Sanchez workrate would have been a better fit here but I think the dude was finished. Before you guys swooped in for him, I posted in the City thread I didn't want him, it was like he suddenly lost interest in football, even in his last months at Arsenal. Peak Sanchez would have been a great fit here and peak Mahrez for you guys if Fernandes didn't kill him after their first training session for being lazy.

Eric Garcia in the Barca - Seville match currently made me think of Ferran Torres, another player reportedly on the move to Barca from City. Apprently Barca are going to pay 50m for him. Does anyone else think that's wildly above what he's actually worth? He's a decent enough player but there's nothing there that I've seen that suggests he'll be an elite wide forward.

Barcelona are not spending 50m on anyone.

Shame he's never really settled and wants to leave, think Barca will do better out of the deal with getting him for £50m, think he'll be excellent for them for a lot of years, I'm a bit pissed he's leaving but hopefully it'll give more opportunities to Cole Palmer to shine.

I think if he wasn't desperate to leave we'd be demanding one of their young stars in exchange but £50m is probably a fair price for him at the moment

Yes, it's a deal that probably suits both sides.
He's a starter for the Spanish NT, quite young and doesn't want much in the way of wages so spread over 5 years actually works out to be quite a cheap signing, particularly if they unload one or two of the high earners on their books currently such as Dembele and maybe de Jong.

City have Grealish and Foden for his position so are not short of cover there so if Torres wants to go then we don't want to keep unhappy players against their will.

I think he’s looked seriously impressive. Natural goalscorer. Bit weird that City are letting him go.

I thought the same, everytime i saw him player, he stands out to me, City or Spain. 13 goals in his first season in the prem at 20 years old and playing most games from the bench, great start. I think City are selling so they can get that guy from Italy, Haaland or Kane.

I understand why City isn't bothered if he goes. He's not really an impressive player, but he is a very good all-round player who will play well at any attacking postion and is very determined. A good squad player for a team like City, but in Barça he could become their main player since they lack talent upfront.

Is there word on why he wants to leave? Very good young player and I’d have thought City would have wanted to have held on to him if they could.

Probably just wants to go back 'home' to one of the top clubs in his home country. Bit like Sancho and probably Bellingham in a couple of years. If some players have the chance to return to their home country playing for one of the best clubs there they'd take it to be close to family, maybe language issues etc.

City don't stand in their players way if they want to leave - especially to Barcelona who practically their whole board and most of the staff has been at previously, and they sell for below market value too.

And regardless of Barcelona's current state on the pitch, they're one of the top 2 clubs in terms of pull along with Real Madrid.

Yeah it seems so, a mix of returning home and the pull of Barcelona. I was wondering if maybe he had an issue with the rotation policy but that doesn’t seem to be the case.

No. Unless you’re living in a football value world from 15 years ago, I’d actually suggest he’s worth more than that.

Maguire - 80m
Grealish - 100m
Sancho - 70m

50m for a highly talented, young Spanish striker is a great deal if they do it.

So Barcelona didn’t have the money to be able to give Messi a new contract but a few months later can sped 50+ Million on a player?
