feck. Your pseudo intellectual nihilism, megaphoned from all the way up there on your high horse, is exhausting. Just give it a break for one fecking night. Yes, the system is broken. Yes we need the types of changes that will not happen. You’ve got a democratic president with a republican senate, and anything meaningfully impactful will be blocked. But tonight is a victory for everyone that wants a pathway to a sustainable and equitable future.

We are a million miles away from where we need to be, but every journey starts with a single step; and national culture change takes generations not 4 years. This is a victory for preventing the constant onslaught decency and tolerance has been subjected to from the highest office for the last four years. No one is under any illusions that we aren’t all still fecked unless we fix our destruction of the planet and each other.

So can you just give it a rest for one fecking night? Can we have one fecking night free of cynicism and actually embrace the idea of having some hope? Is that too much to ask? feck me.
You're absolutely delusional talking about change with a guy who campaigned on "nothing will fundamentally change". Just stop

His perspective sums up United fans as a whole. Not willing to see out a project, they want immediate results and they want them now.

In fact you could draw parallels between the position of Ole and now Biden. Both coming off toxic stewardship of regime's where there is massive divide amongst fan bases. The first step is to re-instill a sense of unity and togetherness before starting the rebuild. Otherwise you end up in the same position again. The problem is for some is that it takes time and doesn't happen over night.

I literally said nothing would change. And you are the worst example of a cynical nihilistic arsehole that this forum has ever seen. A complete inability to see the plausible over the accurate. An idealist without a plan that is executable. You and I just shouldn’t talk, I find you insufferable, even if I ideologically agree with you.

You don't agree with me. We aren't on the same side.

It’s actually more like putting LvG back in after Jose.

Everybody is glad that Il Douche is gone, but the hope for any substantive change that will reverse the direction of our slow descent into inevitable doom seems misplaced when the new guy in charge is the same one who were there before and if not had a hand in that gradual degradation, at least did feck all to prevent it.

Theres a lot of stuff I agree with that you say. I volunteered with Tony Benn in the late 90s. But most of what you say is just idealism. You lack the ability to make practical change. You just sit around dogmatically stuck in your ideological prison, complaining and attempting to be intellectually more enlightened; but you’ll never make any meaningfully impactful change on society because you are unapproachably idealistic and unrealistic. Good luck with that.

They controlled the trifecta for the first 2 years, and a filibuster-proof supermajority for about 40 days (which didn’t matter by the end, as ACA was pushed through by reconciliation).

We had our one chance in a generation to really make meaningful change but they squandered it, due to a combination of both Obama’s political inexperience and his ideology (he said he’d have been a Republican in the 80s). As the no.2 in that administration, Biden was just as culpable in its failures.

I'm pretty sure the supermajority thing is a myth, right? Sen. Byrd was #60 and he was hospitalized the whole time till Brown replaced Kennedy.

Edit: Or was the 40 days while whatever his face was filled in for Kennedy?

If you want to rebut any point, feel free. It’s easy to scream ‘Republicans blocked everything’ but look at how much Trump was able to advance the GOP agenda even when they didn’t have the same advantage as 2008 Dems.

ACA was passed by reconciliation.

And Thaddeus Stevens was literally wheeled into the House for the impeachment vote. Had they felt the vote was important enough, they would have, you know, do the same, or abolish the filibuster when Ted Kennedy seat was lost. Reid eventually went there anyway, partly.

Meh facts isnt his thing
@InfiniteBoredom pulled that one out of his ass. Talk about a fecking reach
Franken got seated in July, Ted Kennedy died in August 09. Even though Byrd was hospitalised, he had 60 for 40 days. That’s indisputable fact.

There are precedents for sick representatives turning in for a vote. Thaddeus Stevens being the most famous example when he had to be carried inside the chamber to lead impeachment proceedings against Andrew Johnson.

Then ultimately, as noted, the ACA was finally passed by budget reconciliation through the House, without involvement from the Senate, so it didn’t matter.

The truth is this: if the Obama administration wanted to do public option, they could have, at multiple points, by multiple different methods, during that first 2 years. They didn’t.

dude, she's 16
Naomi Biden isn't 16, she graduated uni of pen in the same year as Tiffany Trump. She's 26. Unless you thought the person saying 'who's that hottie' was referring to a 16 year old, which puts either you or them in a weird position.

I was referring to the person that was hugging Biden at the time of the post (and was the only brunet I had seen to that point), which is Beau's daughter. I only know who she is from the disgusting smear campaign Trump's peeps ran saying he was creeping up on a young girl when it was her at her dad's (his sons) funeral. Anyways, it is likely that Redplane meant someone else.
