What do you base that on out of interest? I don't ever remember reading about him being a trouble causer or whirlwind of negativity in the dressing room.
Oh I should have been clear, I don't mean in terms of personality, I mean in terms of quality. As in, he's crap and I'm glad he doesn't start or even come on as a sub anymore. He's nowhere near the playing team, is what I meant.

I think the alliance with Mini Roll was more about trying to get the JLingz brand expanded more so than getting a move.

Yeah I won't miss him too much, but wish him well at West Brom or wherever he ends up.

Ornstein said during the summer that Lingard was happy to stay at the club instead of seeking a move to a lower prem club. I expect he'll not be moved on and we'll renew his contract to "protect his value"...

I’d say Lingard is a goner. He’s past his use by date. Maybe Mou and spurs will sign him ?

When is his contract up?
I bet he’s going to get an extension. If jones did/we signed matic up for 3 more years etc then I don’t see why they won’t sign lingard up to protect his supposed value. More foolishness on our part. I bet he hired Mino to get him out of here and no decent club came in. having mino might have further harmed his chances of getting offered a new deal here (we are probably the only big club that has any interest in signing him) so he cuts mino loose and prays we are stupid enough to offer him a new deal.

i think he couldn’t build an identity. What is he? A LW? RW? #10? What is he good at? Does he dribble? Good crosses? Shoots well? Not sure really. He lost it along the way I guess. His off the pitch interests/issues may have interrupted his development. Unfortunately I feel he’s finished as a united player. Hope he goes to a team where he can actually play
Good question. There’s no one aspect of his play (2-3 years ago...he’s done now) that was particularly strong, but he did have a moment as a pressing attacking midfielder who could unsettle a defense or lead a counterattack. But now, he’s quite useless. Maybe he would thrive with an MLS club or in China. Perhaps he can peddle his JLinz line of crap either in vast market.

Imagine his new Chinese fans swapping their Kenzo street apparel or whatever it is they're wearing nowadays for JLingz gear :houllier:

Once upon a time I thought he could’ve been our new Park. That hard working attacking mid that would put in a shift for the team and pop up will crucial goals. But he bought into his own hype.

Not really Park, but a hardworking forward with deft touches and clever off the ball movement.

But don't know what happened to him, his first touch nowadays is terrible, like everything he tried failed.

Got a good chance, scuff the shot.
Got a clear chance, straight to the keeper.
One final pass, messed it up.

Manchester Utd never lose, just run out of time

I'm not sure if it's him buying into his hype. It seemed to start with his family problems, and then I think that poor form and the media reaction to it destroyed his confidence and belief and simply wasn't able to get it back. There were a couple of decent matches towards the end of last season that looked more like his old self, but overall I tend to think he needs to move on and start from scratch somewhere else.

Think Ole got bored of watching him gain possession just outside the penalty area, turn and run straight into a defender, losing both the ball and his feet.

I know it frustrated the feck out of me.

He's good at running around. His "off then ball movement" is his best attribute. Thankfully Bruno and the emerging VDB will keep him sidelined until he decides enough is enough, and pushes for a move to Ipswich or takes up Tennis, or something.

That guy was a weird(?) amalgamation of a forward and a midfielder.

I think we lined up 442 on paper but it was almost a 433 in defense and transition with the two CFs and opposite winger staying up and Park becoming a third midfielder. I think it only worked because he was such a good tackler/interceptor for a forward.

Massive disrespect to the very capable player Park was the way shite players keep getting compared to him if they can run around a bit

He’s far from MLS level.

Some of you are letting your displeasure for him feed into your rating for him as a player.

He can still do a job in the Prem easily but probably should look at Spain or Germany.

Jlingz= physical, hard-working but no talent.
PPogba= physical, talented but not hard-working
Matic= talented, hardworking but not physical.

There is one decent player somewhere there.

There's something vulnerable about Lingard. Family stuff has him rocked and these challenges sort out the elite from the merely high quality athlete. And he hasn't got any maverick genius to compensate. Most of that goes for lot of players post-Fergie.

Do feel like almost everyone on here forgets how good he was for a period in 17/18, I always liked him as a youth player due to his work rate and thought he was finally coming good as a first team starter during that period. Think he scored 4 in 6 games or something around Christmas, and was also pretty good before that. Just looked up his stats and he ended that season with 8 league goals and 6 assists from 33 appearances but only 20 starts. Considering he wasn't taking any set pieces it's a pretty great record, for one season only :(

It also then coincided with him playing almost every game for England in that World Cup year, but it has been downhill ever since and he's been absolute garbage since the start of 2019. We really should have got rid at the end of the 18/19 season if we wanted to get a decent fee.

UK, hun?
It's been soothing not seeing him play for the team. I didn't realize how much I needed it in my life
Has this sense of relief not been soiled a bit by Dan James? To be fair he's not featured in every game but it brings out a similar feeling in me when I see him starting, which is the very strong suspicion that absolutely nothing will happen on that side of the pitch.

Goodbye JLingz. You have given us some great memories. But ultimately, you were an in-betweenr. Had things been stable in his personal life, he could have been our Marchisio. Man I fecking loved Marchisio, what a squad player!

Doesn't come across as that sort of lad at all!

So by that account all high level world class athletes are emotionless machines that are here for your pleasure and don't let anything affect them mentally or physically? Almost making them somewhat empathetic psychotic sports stars? We're all human and personal matters can affect us all, whether you're a high level athlete in Ronaldo or Messi or a Rojo or Lovren. We're ALL human, remember that. High level extreme levels of talent doesn't immediately mean you aren't human and disregard all levels of human emotion, we're more complex than putting people into two boxes. Jheeze.

Definitely a machine like quality, which is not the same as psychotic. Ronaldo and Messi are good examples. They've both had fairly serious off the field distractions but you'd hardly know looking at their performances. Keane, Viera, Gerrard, etc etc were barely touched professionally by personal issues.
I'm speculating sympathetically in the case of Lingard that stuff might be dragging him down. But he clearly isn't in the above mentioned players' league mentally or in terms of ability.

To be fair to him Matic is quite physical. In his prime he put himself about a lot. He's just old now.

You started off defending him and I was like, wtf, but, fortunately, you got he post back on track by the end.

It's a bir different because James has less years at this club so he's more bearable too. Less annoying celebrations and everything else too

For a home grown player he's still been a relative success. For own interests we kept him around to bolster the squad too long rather than let him forge a career elsewhere.

Nothing surprises me anymore this year, no live football for 8 months, a VAR decision that went against Liverpool. So the next natural progression would be that joker signing another contract.

I'm just a bit gutted that a homegrown player that I rooted for and looked like he was coming good at one point, ultimately turned to fecking shite :(
