Should we consider selling Pogba?

The biggest difference between Ole and Jose, which even the board and most ardent of Ole haters will recognise, is that ultimately Ole knows this is his one opportunity at managing a big club and he is going to live or die with his success at Utd. So what's best for Utd is what's best for Ole.

With Jose, we knew he was more worried about his own brand and what was best for Utd was not necessarily best for Jose, so there was this element of mistrust in his treatment of our most talented players like Pogba, Martial, Rashford etc. He wanted players who would win him a trophy immediately because even he openly admitted he didn't see himself staying long term at a club. So everyone was mistrustful of him wanting to sell our talented players for seasoned campaigners who might win him something in the short term but our long term future may be compromised, because Jose wasn't going to stick around that long.
I would agree with that. Many of our fans conviniently forget that Pogba contributed into delaying the inevitable for Jose. A home game vs Newcastle with them leading 0-2 and the team ended it with 3-2 with big performances from Pogba and Martial, 2 players he disliked when everything was set up for them to phone it in and see him sacked

I'm bored by the whole Pogba story. Anyone watching him over the last few years would have a hard time making a case for him as 'world-class' when he plays in our shirt. He has moments, for sure, but they are too few.. I remember Ole saying something about building a team around him but I think we have to face the facts that for all the potential, Paul has not really set the world alight since he came back and we can't expect this to change suddenly. Would some other manager get more out of him? Who knows. I wonder just what he'd fetch on the transfer market though and I can understand the club thinking he has some value on the commercial side so I suspect we'll be having this discussion for a few more seasons.

Mou and SAF got it right

Ole coming here putting Pogba on a pedestal trying to lick off the manna of Pog sweat was hysterical

Eventually it seemed like Ole realized the wisdom of those before him and bought Bruno, thank goodness

Still plenty Ole has to get through his thick skull
in fairness to Ole he has dropped him this season and he isn't first choice

try to remember Pogba is an asset too. I'm not sure what people want him to do

if we want to get 60m for Pogba we need the camp to seem happy at least

I believe that United were gearing up to sell Pogba in the summer to help pay for Sancho and Covid put the shackles on that

Bruno is inconsistent himself though.
I know he's not Messi & Ronaldo consistency level but Pogba is far from Bruno's consistency.

I understand Paul should be doing better but united for the last 8 years has been something else.
Don't you think one of the reason because Pogba has failed to live up to expectation? He is supposed to be the star player that is supposed to be the leader in midfield & make players around him better but he hasn't done it.

Yeah, I thought that said a lot about character from our team and players which are often so criticised.

Paul Pogba as a player just generally doesn't work with us for some reason which is not only on him, but he isn't what is needed at this point especially as we have Bruno now. People take it too personally also, it is what it is, cut our losses and let's move on.

He is targeted a lot, but when you look players like Keane and Robson that were part of our history, it is understandable why we as fans are disappointed. Robson at times was a one man midfield carrying the team with sheer and crazy will to elevate the team. Paul is so different from both of them in terms of playing style.

All good, sometimes things just doesn't work out.

Did you want De Gea to stay on reasonable wages?
Yup at the time I was happy that De Gea signed that contract, even though the wages were eye popping for a keeper (I think most were happy). He's obviously not at the same level as he was when he signed the contract but still think he's solid enough as a keeper for us with some obvious weaknesses in terms of passing, sweeping etc.

I’ve said it before, he knows exactly what he’s doing. Subtle enough but damaging enough. No doubt his agent knows too.
The sooner he's out the better, I can't wait, such a waste... He was damaging for the squad throughout his time here and he also wasted his own career, and he could've been one of the best...
I'm supporting his antics and Raiola if it means he's out soon

I couldn't agree more with that last sentence.
He is a flawed player and the expectations on his shoulder were unrealistic. He has time to salvage his career and hopefully we can get another player who will work out for us

Recent Fabrizio Romano quote seems out of context and deliberately shit stirring.
I don't like Pogba at all, but his latest statement is harmless.
I think we should all volley abuse @ Romano for a cheap and dirty tweet.

Pogba: "French national team? It's a window that opens. I talk with Antoine [Griezmann] and Raphael [Varane], we realise that the group is great, and when we're on the field, we have fun. It's not that in the club we don't have fun, but here, it's not the same. We laugh. It's really a family, and the group we have, regulars or substitutes, it's really magical, and that's why we're happy to come to the selection. The coach has enormous confidence in us and we trust him too. That mental strength makes the difference. The substitutes, their seriousness and their professionalism, and their talent - they work hard and they don't complain. They really represent France. Like Adrien [Rabiot] and Kimpembe. It was a period I hadn't experienced in my career. I was used to playing and having rhythm. Now, I'm getting my sensations back, little by little, I am finding myself back. I have to put in performances like that [like against Portugal], be consistent."

Yeah, think that people are too harsh. He did came back and wanted to make it work.

It is quite possible that Pogba can be a great player for another team and we at the same time can be better without him.

@sammsky1 You alright man ? This is so unlike you ;) Those quotes are harmless indeed
@sammsky1 actually loves Pogba. Whoop, whoop.
 It's easy enough to find fault with Pogba in how he plays and that's all that matters to me.

But in this instance he is subject to a idiot social media ITK and a very lazy and cheap shot desperate for retweets. Screw Romano

From you I respect this. I know we are divided as a fanbase but we have to stop these media agenda’s.

not sure till when though. He is gradually losing the united fans. It’s not just his performances, it’s his attitude and interviews off the pitch. His mind is somewhere else. I don’t see him contributing to the team. He hasn’t shown anything special for a couple of years now. People kept giving his excuses for not delivering (he needs someone with him to set him free, etc...). Well guess what, bruno fernandes just hit the road running when he joined. That’s quality.

hope we can cash in on pogba asap

I really can't understand anyone wanting to keep hold of Pogba. There is undoubtedly a talented footballer in there somewhere, however after 4 years I can only remember a handful of games where he has been quality. I remember far more games where he takes numerous touches, loses possession right in front of the back line, takes an age to get of his ass and strolls back making no effort to recover the ball.

If anyone offers more than £50mil take the money and run. Move on and focus on players that want to be here. Hopefully he'll be the last in a long line of mercenaries like Di Maria, Sanchez etc who are little more than vanity signings and have added little to our team.

Nope, Ferguson tried to keep Pogba at the club; it was too late, and Pogba showed he was ready at Juventus.
Might be, but we also remember Fergie not giving in to what Pogba was demanding - to play in that midfield as an 18-year old. Instead Fergie got Scholes out of retirement, which in hindsight was a brilliant move, yet it didn't really make Pogba want to stay in the end. I really believe Fergie saw the raw mentality in Pogba which had to be nurtured correctly - but the boy wanted the world and with Raiola at his side, he got it.

Not necessarily. It can also mean he feels it more for France.
When someone says that its a breath of fresh air at one place it sure can mean it's really bad in the other place you came from. Even though his words may be skewed or he didnt mean that at United it's all bad it doesn't sound particulary good. Also it seems that every time he goes on international duty there some quote about the club which often sounds like a dig or just a good old moan how bad he's having it at United..

Tbh I don’t give 2 shits about his interviews or his stupid haircuts. He seems a likeable although a bit naive bloke what should not come as surprise with modern footballers living in a bubble more or less completely detached from what is going on in the world. It takes a strong personality to stay grounded.

It is all about the fact that we paid (and are still paying on a weekly basis) an astonishing amount of money so it would be great to see him unleashing his unquestionable amount of talent.

Leave it up to clickbait journalists to take a quote where a player admits he's struggling and knows he needs to play better for his club and make it seem like he's shitting all over it.

He just wanted to play when he saw there was almost no midfield left and Rafael was filling in. I don't know if you can imagine what it's like to know you're ready to play, and to see there is almost no midfielder left on the team, and you're still being left out. It's one of the rare situations that Ferguson mismanaged with a player, no matter how people want to rewrite the story. Pogba showed in Italy he was ready to play, it has nothing to do with mentality because you don't survive, let alone thrive, in Conte's Juventus without a great mentality as a 19 years old new recruit coming into that midfield. Whatever it is that's happening to Pogba, it's got nothing to do with mentality or professionalism.

Letting him go on a free was a mistake, and it looks as if bringing him back may have been as well. But I really think his main issue is confidence, he's a bit lost, and I'm not buying that it's got to do with having his head elsewhere. Whatever it is, it's irrelevant, he's just gotta get on with it and show consistency. He's had a few good games coming back from injury and playing with Bruno early on last season, but since COVID got him, he just hasn't been anywhere close to good.

Fergie just wanted to put him on the ground imo. That fat feck coming in his office and demanding money or threatening with a transfer was probably what ended his career here. It was indeed strange that he didn't play him when we literally had no midfield, but we are talking about the manager who let Ronaldo doing bycickle kicks for 2 years without much production only to watch him grow into an absolute beast.

He didn't think Pogba was worth the hassle or time as he would act differently.
And Pogba Juve career is overrated, he was brilliant in patches and was always a moment player. It was enough imo to take the risk and think he will develop into a more complete player. But he just doesn't have the ability to do so. He still have the same flaws as 5 years ago which is damning.

I've already done this to death, even read the interview in french too. What he said is harmless, he even went out of his way to mean that the club wasn't concerned by his comments. There isn't much else to add

Why the feck would he be happy right now at Utd ? Besides, like I said even the "breath of fresh air" part isn't excluse to him, he's talking about the entire team
"Breath of fresh air" implies that he's not happy at United but is when playing for France, doesn't matter how you try and sugar coat it.

I don't think it's to do with confidence, I just don't think he's suited to the PL, it's a lot faster than Italy, for instance. He seems to play better when he's got more time on the ball, which, most of the time, he's not going to get in the PL.

Not just that. He had 3 leaders of centre back, Pirlo to take the job of dictating the midfield and Vidal to provide the energy & steel in midfield. He was never given big responsibility in Juve. Vidal & Pirlo took the man’s job for him.

He was signed here to step up for big responsibility role and he couldn’t do it.

There’s truth in what people are saying in regards to him having to much responsibility playing for United. However his bottom level is just so extremely low and his top level we’ve only see for 6months max in a 4 season period. It’s not good enough unfortunately. Veron was given less time to showcase himself. We just don’t fit. End of. He’ll go and look incredible elsewhere.

The issue is how many times has he lost possession in instance when he should not have? Lots. So has Bruno people can say. Yes true. But Bruno doesn't lose possession by trying to hold on to the ball when he should have passed. Bruno puts on the miles every match. He tries those forward passed and make bad passes. Bruno usually defend well too.
If Pogba would put in efforts like that every match people won't be on his back as much.
I would select Fred over Pogba any day for United right now.
It would be better for all if he is sold.

Agreed.
One of Pogba problems is that he dwells on the ball for far too long. And opposing players are very well aware of this. So they close him down quickly.
But he does this close to the penalty area as well which is even worse.
His languid style may not be suited to the PL and he often struggles to cope with the pace.

My biggest concern though is his attitude. Yes he has ability.
But to be successful, you have to work at your game. And I cannot see that he has improved at all since he has been at OT.

Agreed with that, Bruno is pretty sloppy with his passing but that's because he tries to do those risky passes in the final third, Poga just loses it in the midfield or his own half for dwelling too long on it.

I don't agree that he just doesn't have the game to strive in the PL. He was one of the best midfielders before his big injury last season and had a pretty good season considering how much the team was struggling. He has to cut out the dwelling on the ball, for sure it should have been better now, but there's no real reason why he can't. He's capable of quick thinking/passing. He has everything in his game to succeed, but if he can't mentally do it then it's all moot.

Juve is fond in a come back, why not tempt them with ax exchange, Pogba for De Ligt and Arthur? A much needed CB and a quality CDM/CM.
