You have to start back from the beginning yes but with each run you can collect new weapons, items etc. Also each run always feels unique because there are so many different weapons and power ups to collect. and sometimes the bosses are even different. And every time you die the story tends to progress a bit, it's continuous across all runs, it doesn't reset along with each run.

It's a game that rewards you for each attempt, not punish you for failing. I'm not usually a fan of roguelike games but it is awesome.
Yes and no.

You have persistent upgrades. Its more of a rogue-lite.

Each run you'll learn more about attack patterns and get certain items which allow you to start leveling up. Similar to Dead Cells.
Sounds good, that's what usually puts me of rogue likes. The utter pointlessness of a failed run. Having some persistence is good.

Played through Super Mario Galaxy properly for the first time recently and I gotta agree with the GOAT tier assessment. Now I really want to play the second one but I assume the difficulty of transfering the gameplay mechanics prevented it from being included in the All Star bundle. There were a few niggles as I played SMG in handheld mode.

Might as well settle with Super Mario Odyssey. I've run out of games to play again. I'm tired of trying to get into Witcher. Could finally pull the trigger and play Skyrim again but I'm still kinda peeved that they are charging full price for it, a 9 year old games that has been on the console for a while now. Wish they could hurry up and release more SNES games to the online app (DKC3, Chrono Trigger).

Seems like Hades is the one to get. May be my next purchase when I’m bored with Pokémon
I do have to say that these roguelike indie games are a bit overrated by critics. I mean, it's a fun little game, but a 93, I dunno. I guess it's the artistic side that brings out the orententious snob in people.

Or maybe I'm just an unrefined barbarian.

Do switch games usually get any sort of discount during Black Friday sales? This is my first year owning one.

I want to get XBC 2 and the DLC, but I don't mind waiting a couple weeks if it will potentially be cheaper then.

Haha to be honest I’ve just used the Switch to play games I’ve always played but the new version. Mario, Mario Kart, Smash Bros, Pokémon. Only new game I’ve discovered is Animal Crossing.

I’m probably better off getting Zelda next as I loved Ocarina of Time on my N64.

Games do go on sale but not sure if the one you're taking about will. Just wait and see.

Zelda is fecking brilliant. Should definitely get that if you liked the other games in the franchise. One of those games that make you feel like a kid again.

Funny enough it’s the price that’s stopped me getting Zelda. I think in my head I think it’s a 3 year old game, why is it still £50. Need to just accept it won’t go down and bite the bullet!

Started Owlboy this morning.

It's gorgeous but it's a bit slow at the start. I've heard good things though so I'll stick with it.

Since you've waited this long, you might as well check for Black Friday deals just in case.

If not, it still might be worth waiting as I fully expect there to be a lot of things happening with Zelda next year. It's the 35th anniversary and after all the Mario stuff this year, I think Zelda will get similar treatment. The minimum I'd expect for Breath of the Wild is a 35% discount as a download. Of course, you could just buy a secondhand copy, even at a price of £30+ it would be worth your money then I reckon.

I bought Abzu off the eshop yesterday as it was only about £2, and sounded intriguing. I'm still not sure what it is, but it's a nice, relaxing experience, especially with headphones on. Anyone else played it?

Yeah it's pretty much that - a relaxing experience. Nice distraction for £2.

I was interested in that when I first saw it, but kind of forgot. I absolutely love how it looks.

I get the feeling there's a lot of text dialogue to read though for some reason, is there or is it mostly gameplay?

There's a bit at the start but it's not too bad overall.

I played about 3 hours but ended up buying Worms and I've not stopped having games against my brother.

I've finally finished Dragon Quest XI S on the Switch after playing it for what feels like ages. Took me 150 hours in total to do everything. There were some pacing issues but all things considered, it's a fantastic, traditional JRPG, a love letter to the genre almost. Got myself Xenoblade Chronicles Definitive Edition to fill that JRPG void now. I missed the original so why not. In fact I've never played any Xeno-series game before. Anyone played this? I'm sure it'll keep me occupied for quite some time.

My brother gifted me Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition but I haven't started it yet. I'm playing The Witcher currently.
I haven't played a JRPG in ages though so I'm quite looking forward to it.
I played the demo of Dragon Quest and I'll pick that up in the future as well I think.
Hyrule Warriors is out tomorrow. New Zelda game with canon BOTW story...but the gameplay of those hack-and-slash games looks so monotonous. I'm torn.
Yeah I don't really know either. I'll look up some reviews and see if it sounds worth my time. In any case it won't be right now as I've plenty of games I haven't played yet.

Got my notice that my copy is already out for delivery and should arrive TMR

I'm a sucker for nintendo first party games and pretty much just buy them.

It helps that the original hyrule warriors was pretty mindless fun too.

Honestly, I think Xenoblade is a bit of a Marmite game.

I love JRPGs, but the battle system in this series just turns me off. I played through most of Xenoblade Chronicles on the Wii and Xenoblade Chronicles X on the Wii U and I just couldn't bring myself to like it. It was hugely disappointing to me because everything else about the games is incredible. The environments, characters, even side quests, story and content is all top notch. But for me and some of my friends in particular, it comes down to whether you like or dislike the battle system and how much it effects your overall experience with the game if it's the latter. It's kind of a mix between real-time and turn-based. You can freely move your characters around whilst battling an enemy, but your characters auto-attack. It's a bit more of a strategic system where you need to toggle through the different options for different characters, which can create combos etc.

Some people probably love this about the game but I absolutely hate it. To me, it feels like being different for the sake of being different, while a more traditional combat system would have been better. I played a game called The Last Story on Wii which was similar, but they actually allowed you to change the combat from auto-attack to button presses which felt so much more natural and thus I preferred that game over Xenoblade in the end.

Hope you guys enjoy it though!

Dragon Quest XI ended up being one of my favorite games on the PS4. I probably spent around 100 hours in total on it.

I recently played XBC: DE, having never played any of the Xeno games before, and it was as close to perfection as I've experienced in a game in a long time. The story is amazing. The music is top notch. The visuals are gorgeous. The characters are great. The exploration aspect of the game is staggering. The battle system takes a bit of getting used to, but it's alright once you get the hang of it. You're definitely going to have a lot of fun with it.

I can't beat Hades, Hades himself keeps killing me. Hmpf.

There's a Demeter boon that recharges your health over time if you have no deaths defiances up. If you can pick that up then Hades himself is easy as piss.

I got Paper Mario over the weekend and enjoying it having gotten as far as beating the Water Velemental. It's very relaxing to play which is nice after binging on Dead Cells and Hades recently. Everything about it is very charming and the writing is surprisingly funny. I don't even mind the battle system yet although I can see it getting very tired by the end.

I'm only 5 hours into the game but so far I think I like the battle system. It seems involved enough with all the different arts and stuff, so the auto-attack works for me. Side quests seem a bit excessive though, to say the least.

Dont do all side quests. You wont make it through the game if you do. Soooo many sidequests.

I finally decided to do something about the truly horrendous dpad on the Pro controller, as I just couldn't take it anymore while playing Xenoblade Chronicles. Changing arts requires fast dpad controls and the phantom inputs were really messing me up. So I looked up a guide, took apart the controller and carefully taped over a part of the 4 contact points, and it actually works! My dpad is flawless now, not a single phantom input anymore, while I easily had about 1-2 in 10 before.

I should've done this ages ago, it would've saved me a lot of accidental defending in Dragon Quest XI. I still can't believe Nintendo released such an expensive product with such a glaring design fault, especially since the fix is so easy.

Lots of deflect boons?
Got extremely lucky with like 3 heroic boons. Mostly just flat damage things. The run after I beat it again with the bow. I used the aspect that loads your cast into you shot and got a level 6 heroic Dyonisus cast and a chaos boon for a 4th cast. Loading em all up gave me an 1800 damage aoe shot.

I didnt even really plan it, it just happened. And it was glorious. I think I never even went below half health the whole run.

I love rogue lite games. I want a PS4/5 version of hades.

I’m addicted to binding of Isaac and there’s a huge expansion coming for that later this year. Suspect it wouldn’t go down so well for the switch intended younger audience

Isaac has a physical release on Switch.

I thought Repentance had been delayed until next year?

I'm sure Edmund confirmed it's going to be likely Q1 now. Covid has impacted development.
Ah okay. No great surprise. Gives me time to try and unlock and complete the one rebirth challenge I've not yet completed. Finally did suicide king last night.
