The main plot drags a lot, in my opinion. The entire arc in England is basically *help this kingdom out by doing 3 fetch quests and they’ll pledge for you*. Give or take a castle storming. There’s also way too many of them. All the little side quests/world events are perfect now, but they’ve taken the repetitiveness from them in the older games and chucked them back into the main plot.

In contrast
Are the best part of the game. Going to Asgurd and Johtunheim is pretty cool.

That seer quest was really a great and nice surprise for me. But I was underpowered for it so did the first mission and decided to return to it later. Now that I'm at the recommended power for it I'll tackle the rest of them today.

I’ve had one crash on Xbox One and the odd glitch. Nothing else so far. I am saving a lot though following some warnings about crashing in reviews.

I’ve loved it so far though. Prefer it to Odyssey and one of my favourite in the series. I’m a sucker for Viking stuff so it’s easy to get into for me. I do find it hilarious how Vikings are portrayed as heroes and Saxons as the less morally good people, when the reality was the opposite.

Raids are great. Love the music too. I like how they’ve limited the amount of armour you get and force you to focus on upgrading what you have too. The skill tree is a bit all over the place.

At about 25 hours in I’d give it an 8/10 so far.

I don't think Vikings can be considered morals when they were raiding villages, stealing their goods, killing their people and maybe even raping their women ? They're cool fighters but they can be viewed in the same sense as sea pirates, cool but not really good people ?

Though I'm not into history that much to argue, but that's how they're almost always presented in media.

By today’s standard every person back them were a-holes, more or less. Making judgments based on the value system we use today makes little sense when looking at the actions of these people. As historians we try to understand the subjects on their terms. I find it funny when we jugde historical characters using today’s motality, ethics and world view.

Might be. As I said I'm not into history that much to argue about that with strong base of information backing any argument I'll make. Maybe I'll try one day to read more about this period of history whenever I have time.

Pretty sure death will have affected them too, so they knew how it would’ve affected the families of those they kill. Also, not every single person was going round murdering for profit.
Conclusion: vikings were massive dickheads.

Not in the slightest, but my understanding was that the Vikings were the more brutal of the two, even if Christianity was brutal in its own way.

You are but in general humans are twats. From Vikings, Mongols et al. List is endless.
Most people of the past who couldn't defend themselves tended to get wiped out. History just really wasn't a nice place.

Outsold COD when it comes to discs in the UK. Obviously most COD sales are digital now, but still big for them.

As much as I am enjoying the game, why do they continue with the modern day out of animus shit? No one wants that bit. We're buying the game to play as a viking, not the self indulgent shite you added on to it

It's fun and the grind is less painful than in Odyssey which made me burn out and never do the DLC. Perfect game to kick back with after a tough day at work for me.

Combat feels a bit janky though, somewhat less tight than Odyssey, even if the finishers are brutal in a nice way. Parkour is mildly infuriating (as usual) where I jump about all over the place when trying to go through a window.. but that's Assassin's creed for you I suppose

Still, I enjoy this a lot. Manage to get 4k and mostly 60 fps at very high on PC by turning down a couple of things and the world is gorgeous. Hope they will do more changes for the next game though. This still feels a lot like the same game as the last two with a lot of reused assets, character models and so on.

Dual wielding 2-handed axes at the moment, which is fun but need to try more weapons probably. I like what they did with the scarcity of loot and not having to constantly upgrade weapons.

I agree about combat and parkour. Something feels off about controls ? Like Eivor seems to refuse to do what I want her to do when I'm climbing or wanting to go down, and combat is so floaty and chaotic.

Hopefully they can patch the combat at least to make it a bit better. But I feel like the parkour has been frustrating since forever in AC so I don't have much hope there :D

Im 45 hours in now and still loving it.

I'm just Completing each wealth, mystery and artifact in each county before moving to the next one.

I'm definately going to platinum it although one trophy is going to be a real pain in the arse.

Been jumping between Demons souls and this so far. Going to stick to Demons souls than do Assassins creed. Love the world and the combat is fun enough for me but really not on the same world as Demons Souls so it hurts the experience a bit when I jump back and forth.

The game crashed again for me today. Second crash so far.

I don't think I have ever experienced crashes in a PS4 game before.

Not sure why they haven't released any new update yet? The game needs some fixing.

Not had it crash yet 16 hours in. It doesn’t seem to quick resume though. Starts up fresh every time.

There're many things that need fixing in this game not just the crashing issues. There're a lot of glitches, some quest bugs that require reloading, the saves get corrupted whenever the internet connection is lost.

And last but not least, the loading time on normal PS4. is really excessive. The game takes ages to load whenever I boot the game or fast travel it's really annoying. I'm also starting to hate the fast travel because I know I'll set through a minute or 2 of loading screen.

I’ve been fortunate enough to not really have any proper glitches yet. Only one was opening a chest during a raid, it got stuck and wouldn’t open. Just had to go back to my boat and start the raid again to fix it.

One would think there’s a patch soon. Hopefully

Yeah usually the technical issues in games are inconsistent and don't happen to everyone. I mean I remember not having as much trouble with Arkham Knight or Unity like the majority at this time. I remember them not being smooth but I managed to play through them without a top issue, but it seems I'm getting it the opposite now in this and previously Marvel's Avengers,.

So I ordered the Ultimate edition for the PS5 but I can’t for the life of me get the additional DLC to appear in the game.

I put the redeem codes directly in the PS store, and not in the game store itself, but I assumed this wouldn’t be an issue.

Anyone else having this problem?

Not 100% sure if this is the case as I don’t have it, but isn’t the DLC not out yet? Spring 2021 is when the first DLC drops.

For me, it’s probably like: Odyssey > Origins > Valhalla. I’d say Odyssey scrapes an 8/10, Origins and Valhalla are both probably light 7.5’s.

I haven't played this yet as I'm waiting till I get a PS5 but why would you say this is worse than Odyssey, which I did enjoy but ultimately found very repetitive.

I liked Odyssey but this one is definitely better.

Saying that, definitely some things from Odyssey I miss too.
I found Odyssey to be a bit of Witcher 3 wannabe tbh. I don't expect every game to the hits of what I consider one of the best games ever, but it just felt like an incredibly dense world /video game which oddly enough had very little depth.

But from what the reviews it seems as though - if you liked Odyssey you'll like this whereas if you didn't, you probably won't.

Eh, I don't think it's massively different between either. They're about similar levels -- nothing amazing, just respectable amount of fun to sink some time into.

Things I feel Valhalla did better:
  • Level design: the areas are very well made, really. Raids are easy to find, traversing isn't difficult etc;
  • Combat: whilst nothing amazing, is a bit better than Odyssey;
  • Side quests are no longer fetch quests and instead are in the sort of Red Dead 2 mould where they are sort of 'world events' - quick little interactions that arise when you're in a certain vicinity.
Things I feel Valhalla did worse/Odyssey was better in:
  • Main plotline: I've said something on this page already above, won't go into more details as it would involve spoilers;
  • Eivor as an MC: I feel he's a bit too stiff. I get it, he's a Viking who just wants to see Valhalla at some point, but he really lacks the charisma of Alexios or general likability that Bayek had.
  • Issues with gear: I think Odyssey maybe had too much loot, but I think Valhalla has too few. You genuinely have to go out of your way to find good gear through exploration (which some love, don't get me wrong), but for pretty much most of the plot, the game doesn't actually feed you any new weapons or armour to use.
  • General setting: This one is definitely the most subjective, but I just find the backdrop of Greece so much prettier and immersive than England/Norway was. Can't really beat them much on this, it's not like you can give England the mountainous, Mediterranean look of ancient Greece.

Agree mostly, strongly disagree with loot. Odyssey was annoying how much it was, I like that you actually get to use the weapons properly now and just upgrade them as you go or have to go find it.
Undecided for the backdrops, origin/Odyssey and this one are all awesome. Norway probably the nicest bit for me but I feel like most of the game is in England. Still nice!

Origins was better than Odyssey for me.

Valhalla so far has been much better than Odyssey as well, and probably even better than Origins bar combat, but let's see how my opinion will be by the end of the game.

I do wish there was a bit more loot in terms of aesthetics for Eivor. The tattoos and haircuts are cool. Hope there's plenty to find.

I think the combat is decent and a bit underrated. While not leaving you feeling amazing about what you just pulled off for the most part, it can be smooth, and takes some skill, and can be quite badass at times.

I must be around 20 hours in now and have still not even finished the Grantebridgescire pledge, which is my first one.
