Was Seany Maguire not the last LOI player to play for the Republic?

Wikipedia says Glen Crowe got two caps in friendlies. Haven't kept track of the team closely enough over the past few years to know if there was anyone else.

Eerie silence on Sky :D
Glen Crowe is my friend. He did get 2 caps but it was really one. The 2nd one was a last minute sub on.
I played in same team as him at youth level before he joined Stella Maris. Shame it never worked out at the top for him.

We could do with him or his ilk now.

The final whistle was the best bit of that match. At least they avoided relegation with 3 draws although that was a group of mediocre teams.

I have a lot of sympathy for Kenny. He's managing us at a time when, let's be honest, it's fecking ludicrous that international football is even being played at all. He's constantly missing players from squads. On Second Captains today they ran through an Emmet Malone piece where he had it that England have not had a player miss a game through Covid, Wales and NI likewise, Scotland have had one and we've had 22. I wouldn't even know where to start with that.

He has the same problem the last few managers have had, namely that even beyond an underwhelming first 11, there's no strength in depth. We had quite a few players on the pitch tonight who are way below even this fairly limited level. It's a huge issue that most of them are attacking players. Long, Horgan, Collins, Maguire and Curtis don't really look up to it. It's a hard job and circumstances aren't making it any easier. BUT, even if nothing has gone for him, he hasn't made anything go for him and we've looked insipid and lacking in any sort of cutting edge. A bit to do over the next few months.

The football is clearly a lot better than the rubbish McCarthy and O Neill were serving up every game. The quality is just not really there yet but we are creating some chances that should have been put away and we just have to keep going.

Michael O Neill took 10 games to get a win with Northern Ireland and once he did they played alright.

If we lost faith now and went back to just hoofing the ball hoping Shane Duffy gets his head on it it will be a travesty.

Kenny deserves time and hopefully someone will come through to put the ball in the net.

Bamford will likely go to England and waste his time but surely someone will step up sooner rather than later

James McCarthy and Conor Hourihane are in serious need of getting benched based on what we've seen so far from Ireland under Kenny. Knight and Molumby simply have to start from now on, and Dara O'Shea is a great option if we go 532

433
Connolly Robinson Brady
Hendrick Molumby Knight
Stevens Egan Duffy Doherty
Randolph

532
Connolly Robinson
Hendrick Molumby Knight
Stevens Egan Duffy O'Shea Doherty

I feel desperately sorry for Kenny. What a circus to have to endure for your first couple of windows. How was he supposed to imprint ideas, a playing style, build trust, belief etc in those circumstances? Start again in March.

There's a real lack of forward options at the minute, that's the biggest issue. From what I can see there are about 4 good young players potentially ready to make the break through. Obafemia, Connolly, Idah and Parrot, they seem to be the pick, but these guys would need to be getting proper first team football and at international level would need an experienced player in the squad to help them adapt

At the minute there's not even a proper experienced international striker in the squad. Maguire and Curtis just aren't good enough. I know Bamford and Keane can declare, both are 27 now, really if they were interested they would have done so long ago.

But are there any other forwards/ strikers out there that anyone can see being able to come in an make an impact?

I never thought I'd be saying this 10 years ago, given how much I hyped him up myself, but sadly I don't think Keane is good enough for Ireland.

Sad about McCarthy's dad. I know I criticised him but that was related to some dodgy performances a while ago and lack of consistency.

Media morons blowing something stupid out of proportion to make a story out of nothing. According to the report, they watched In the name of the father, which "overstepped the mark of political correctness". The poor sensitive souls.. And to make it even better the FAI of all people are going to investigate it. Maybe they found the VHS of it while they were looking for their accounts.

Honestly, a bunch of overpaid grown men watched a movie about some people who were wrongly imprisoned for 15 years by the police force and judicial system of country they are due to play. This upset them so much that they played terribly badly and lost 3-0.

Edit: it seems references to the movievhave been removed from the articles since I read and posted.

Obviously like the journalists that wrote those I should have done some more research before posting.

If they just happened to watch In The Name of the Father, that's fine. 'Tis a good film with one of DDL's least showy performances.

If they watched it to somehow motivate themselves for a friendly football match against England, that's weird on multiple levels.

Tbf lads there are some English staff and players born in England in the squad. It’s probably not the best idea to stir anti-English feeling. I mean can’t they stir a pride in Ireland without resorting to that bollocks?
