It’s very fishy that he’s happy to stay at City longer than Barca & Bayern put together. It’s almost like they are paying him far more money than is officially reported.... :smirk:

Reminds me of how none of their star players ever want to leave despite never coming close to a CL, while ours & Liverpool’s always “dream of Madrid/Barca” :smirk:

We filled the backroom with his friends from Barcelona. It's not really that much of a stretch that he wants to stay here.

They most likely are paying certain staff and players a second "consultancy wage". Since the leaked documents prove they have a history of this. However, I don't see where else Pep would or could go. I don't think it was purely financial. I think it's very likely that Messi will join City and Pep most likely knows he wouldn't get a Messi at the likes of PSG/Juve. City will pay the million euros a week or whatever ridiculous salary he's on.

It’s a bit weird mate. He cut his time short literally at home with all his friends, cut his time short in a city like Munich, but is happy to commit the better part of a decade to a shit hole like Manchester.

How do you explain the fact that your players never want to leave? Their never even linked with anyone. Silva, Toure, Kompany, Aguero, De Bruyne, etc have all given prime to City without a sniff from the big 2 in Spain. No other top English club has had that. World class United, Liverpool, Chelsea, Spurs, Arsenal players always get linked there or go there. Nothing ever about City players. It’s dodgy. Under the table wages me thinks.

I think for Pep when he leaves City there's only one destination he's interested in and that's Italy but I have no idea which club there would actually fit him now or in near future so makes sense to extend with City.
I reckon he'll end up at PSG, already winning the league every season and unlimited spending, suits him better imo

Where else could he go after his current contract ran out given the hit the majority of clubs have had financially? He knows that so bet he jumped at the chance of another £40m in published salary plus ‘bonuses’ no one will know about. He’ll get Messi on a free but they will have to pay him mucho mucho loot, €750k pw?? Messi won’t play that many games as he’s sure to get injured at his age and playing full on teams every week.
This also opens the door for Poch to come to United. I was sure City had him lined up but Guardiola acted first for the money. They still won’t the CL though as I think their current team is worse than two seasons ago. Another £500m will be spent on transfers in the next two seasons but they won’t breach FFP and Donald Trump is sane too!

He probably would have stayed at Barca if all his friends there didn't leave. At Bayern it never really worked for him because of all those ex-players involved. I think he was even thinking about leaving after second season there.

He would have never got sacked anyway. City would never find a better manager and they know that quite well.

That frees Poch for us whenever we need him, at least.

Barca and bayern are superclubs with intense backroom politics. I dun think he was ever comfortable with that. City on other hand is drama free in comparison

must admit thought he was going next summer, can only mean Messi is arriving surely, think the team looks a bit at a cross roads, could prob have done with a new voice in there for me, look very inconsistent still.

I can't believe Messi is going to play for Manchester City  what a sad little world football is now.

City were never hiring Poch, he'd be such a laughable downgrade.

Where else is he supposed to go? PSG would be too easy / not challenging enough even for him.
Best for him to stay at City for now and go to Juve or Milan in a couple of years if they are on the way up / have rebuilt.

Not a surprise. I expect it’s a pre-condition for Messi to join. Messi wouldn’t go to city if there was ambiguity of Pep and whether he was staying.

I can't be the only one who thinks Messi to city isn't guaranteed?

I'd take if Ronaldo comes back though.

Cristiano comes back and leads up to a title doing a double over Lionel's City and solidifying himself as the GOAT

Am not surprised he is staying. Good decision for City. Clubs need to be patient with managers and think long-term rather than be trigger-happy.

You do know City bought Pep's brother his own club to play with.

Barca need to offload wages just to survive and Messi takes up a fair chunk of their wage bill and wants to leave. Pretty sure City is the only club that can 'afford' him atm

This doesn’t surprise me as I’m pretty sure their ownership have exclusively prepared to have that Guardiola-Barcelona side as their City team really early ... even as far as going to getting Begiristain and Soriano in their setup.

When he goes, I think Begiristain and Soriano won’t be far behind too... and then what?

Always thought that was their main weakness to this approach, is what actually happens after they get their guy and then he leaves. Everything seems to have been geared towards getting that one manager. They went balls out for Guardiola on his year off but had to settle for Pellegrini as a stop gap while having Begiristain and Soriano preparing for Guardiola to be parachuted in when he was done with Bayern.

It's not as cut and dried as that. Of course City hope keeping Pep will attract Messi, which is true. But on the other hand, keeping Messi at Barca will be a huge election issue for Barca presidential candidates. Messi had problems with the last board, so it's still possible that he will stay under a more friendly board plus new deal.

I asked about the
ç as it makes me suspect you are a fan of theirs.
I'm not sure why that would matter; or if it does, it also disqualifies yourself, as you're a United fan and hence are too biased in your opinions on the City coach (by that logic).

Maybe they are banking on him doing a Fergie/Wenger & staying for 20+ years?

Ya probably not but why should he? He's earned his right to have the pick of the jobs in my opinion
Pride?

Taking a fallen giant & making them a force in your own image like Fergie did for us or like Klopp has done for Liverpool is so much more impressive than taking over the best team in the league & stock piling 50m players.

That’s why for me the current Klopp/Pep debate isn’t even a debate. Klopp is far far more impressive.

Messi to City then now Pep has extended.

I don't think many would see him last 7 seven years in the north west of England, and according to reports his wife now lives in Barcelona since last year running her fashion company.

I sense while the money/benefits and set up is good at City to carry on apart from his wife and son, there's not much pulling him to France or Italy right now.

This extension will be due to the cock up they made over Pellegrini's departure. The players downed tools when they knew he was a dead man walking. Pep won't want this happening on his watch.

It's nailed on Messi will be joining in the Summer so Pep can have 1 last shot at the CL. He'll then leave with a year left on his deal. If they win the CL he'll see it as job done. If they don't win it he'll have exhausted all his options. No point hanging around when nothings worked.

Glad Pep has extended but being honest I don't think I want Messi. Not that he wouldn't improve us but dude is coming to the end and would probably be on 600k a week or something. Also if he's coming January transfer fee will be astronomical. I'd rather spend the money on someone we could get more time from, albeit knowing they'll be less talented.

If you were the managing director of google then Amazon then Facebook would you go to Myspace to restore it to it's former glory?

I happen to agree with you regarding Klopp/Pep I just think he gets unfair stick for being wanted by the type of clubs that have money and ambition.

You won't be signing Messi in Jan. He is due a huge loyalty payment for completing the season with Barca. You would also have to pay a transfer fee in Jan whereas he would be a free agent at the end of the season.

There's not a chance he joins you for £600,000 a week it will be more like £1,000,000. He will see it as him doing you a massive favor. He's leaving 1 of the world's biggest clubs & ending his top flight career in Manchester. He may well have had thoughts in the past about playing in Manchester but he surely would have been thinking about the Red side. I expect you to announce him on a £350,000 a week deal. The outstanding £650,000 a week over the course of his contract will come from an undisclosed signing on bonus.

That’s a bit of a silly comparison.
The comparison isn't completely daft, though i guess he should have used another company that's not completely finished like myspace is.

Anyways there's a reason why every rich big team will take Pep in a heartbeat if he was free, they all want their teams to win while playing the expansive football Pep makes his teams play.
Winning is important to big teams, but style is too.

Im thinking the Spurs match will be tough, City should get over the line however. Its coming down to who will be fit or not in virus isolation. I think even a loss Pep will be fine, but I see a draw or City win.

Definitely goals in that Spurs front three of Bale, Son, Kane though. City need to be on their game defensively.
