Jose Mourinho | Spurs manager

At every club he's been at since 2002, Mourinho has won trophies. Will he win one at Spurs?

When someone did a good job it is always other teams are in bad shape or in transition.
Not always, but in this case it is indeed.

Doubt he'd challenge 100 points City or 99 points Liverpool, with Tottenham. Doesn't mean he isn't great.

My Liverpool supporting mate just messaged me to ask why Mourinho has Spurs playing like this but in general was a flop for us? I literally couldn’t answer the question.
Egos and toxicity throughout the club. I think United is a poisoned chalice for any manager until they can clean house in upper management, which probably won't happen for a while.

He did perform for us, but ultimately it wasn't enough. He did come 2nd with us after all.

In my opinion, José could have and did in his 2nd season. But ultimately, there were too many big ego's in the United dressing room for him to be a success.

This is basically the same team Pochettino had but without such a great depth they have now. Pochettino team played much better, but mourinho had better players at his disposal.
:lol::lol:

-----------------------------Lloris-----------------------------
Walker--Alderweireld--Vertonghen--Rose
--------------------Dier--------------Dembele--------------------
Eriksen------------------Ali------------------Son
----------------------------Kane----------------------------

with the likes of Trippier, Davies, Wanyama, Lamela on the bench

It shits on this current squad

I suppose it depends how you define performing. I think many of us thought he’d take us right back to the top given his previous Excellent record.... I did. I thought he did ok with us but not much more than ok. However by the end, he left us in a mess but generally that’s one thing he always does at his clubs.

Spurs looked very good today but it’s still early days and plenty of time for them to blow up.

The attack already being in place was massive for him, two ready made world class attackers falling into his lap rather than a Martial, Rashford etc who’d need patience, not his style. He can just focus on what he’s good at, getting the rest of the team organised.

This is almost the same team Pochettino had but without such a great depth they have now. Which just shows how good Pochettino is in building a team. Pochettino team played much better, but mourinho has better players at his disposal. Give this team to Pochettino back then and he wins the league easily as has greater depth and quality
This is nowhere near the team Poch had, please tell mw how you see that? PLEASE TELL ME!

The team with Dembele and in form Walker and Eriksen certainly was. From what I have seen tactically Jose is a much better coach to Poch.
Not disagreeing there but I do think there's some recency bias from you, I bet you weren't saying that when Poch was your manager and Mourinho was ours

Mou Masterclass makes Pep look like the Pep Guardiola is my idol that he is.
He will certainly claim one of the top 4 places, and may even challenge for or win the league.
Very happy for Jose. Brilliant manager whom we should have allowed to sell Pogba and also backed him in his third season.

 let see if Jose can get this spurs team to a champion league final(without star man) and come close to winning the league before you make such unfounded, inaccurate statement. Pochettino only had a strong 11 due to improving the players he had. Mourinho has been giving the luxury to spend and give this spurs team greater depth than they ever had. If mourinho just had only a strong 11 to pick from, he will show his true color faster that got him sacked at his previous clubs

They played better football during Poch's early years but Jose is getting the results

The style of football isn't that much better but if you look at his second season here he was getting good points on the board and was building on the two trophies he won in his first season. Bad things started to happen more often after the Sanchez signing and Jose's (understandable) loss of patience with Pogba, so the second half of that season had some pretty dire moments (especially the Seviila game). Lukaku's decision to put on about a hundred pounds of muscle weight near the world cup didn't help either.

A noisy segment of our digital fan base is part of that toxicity

Is that what you call Sevilla? Interesting. I actually thought his first season was his best, we played attacking football but for some reason kept missing easy chances and hitting the woodwork, resulting in more draws than deserved. Second season he went extra cautious which resulted in dire football and after a horrible year, somehow grinded ourselves to 2nd when everyone else was either transitioning or had a poor season themselves.

4 shots today for Tottenham, although i'm sure the Spurs fans won't care so long as they're winning. Meanwhile City dominated but have been shite at scoring this season, it's a big weakness for them so far this season, 12 clubs have scored more than them. If Tottenham get through December and still in the title chase then i'll be concerned.

This Spurs team reminds me of his early Chelsea team where the players all bought into his tactics and plans and ultimately played for him for the sake of winning at all costs. I don't think he had the right profile of players here with that sort of commitment or maybe he just couldn't hard sell his way to them? But it's clear that this Spurs team have some of those early Chelsea qualities about them.

I seen Poch teams going out, and overly riled up and that was ultimately lost their heads in big games. I have my theory's on what happened Jose at United and it doesn't fill him with glory but I can see why it went to shit.

A bit over the top. In a recent season they would be 7 points behind a Liverpool or City and his style of play would be laughed at.

You didn't answer my question, if you wanna talk about improving players look at Harrys quotes this week.

Somewhere out there
Jose won the Europa League and came second with us.
Our issues were that too much of the fan base were against him from day one and that too many people in the club couldn’t handle Jose’s way of managing a squad. Once they tried interfering with that, blocking the sales of Pogba and Martial for example, it was doomed.
Stupid decision to hire him from all at the club if they were gonna “want a different way, a United way” after two years. Thick shits.

As I am getting older, I care much more about getting entertained than only results, he can grind his results with bus parking, just far away from OT.

He's doing his best managing job in a long time. Spurs is very compact and dynamic football.

Not at all. I'm not a fan of his or his playing style. What I am trying to say is the players are committed to his cause, where they would run through walls for him much like his early Cheslea team did.

He is imprinting his early Chelsea ethos onto this Spurs squad. I would prefer him to win the PL than Liverpool or City.

I still would not have him back though.

My wit's end
My Liverpool supporting mate just messaged me to ask why Mourinho has Spurs playing like this but in general was a flop for us? I literally couldn’t answer the question.
Mourinho is a fantastic manager. And in particular, he's one of the greatest defensive managers of all time.

At United, he tried to replicate his usual formula of building from the back. To do that, he gambled on Lindelof and Bailly. Unfortunately, no transfer in history is ever a guarantee. And with those two, he lost out both times. That left all of his plans in tatters with Woodward was unwilling to pay any more money to rectify Mourinho's mistakes (on Maguire, Alderweireld or Koulibaly for instance).

If either one of Lindelof or Bailly had turned into a Carvalho or Gallas, I think that Jose would have had much more leeway to implement the rest of his ideas. As it was, he had to force square pegs into round holes. Which meant he could never quite earn himself the slack to reset United's dressing room culture. Then the big egos in the squad ended up getting their way and that was the end of Mourinho's story at United.

The buck ultimately stopped with Jose and his place at the club was untenable by the end. He definitely deserved to go. But the board and the players played a big part as well. In a different timeline, he could have easily found success here. If we'd somehow got VVD instead of Lindelof, I think he'd probably still be the manager.

Not doing badly at all.

Which probably infuriates quite a few on here.

Delighted he beat Pep though. Nothing gives me greater pleasure than seeing Pep fail.

But we did play like this for a while, all of his teams do. Its just that he cant sustain it anymore and players fall out of sync with him.
