Jose Mourinho | Spurs manager

At every club he's been at since 2002, Mourinho has won trophies. Will he win one at Spurs?

Losing to Comeback Winning!
My Liverpool supporting mate just messaged me to ask why Mourinho has Spurs playing like this but in general was a flop for us? I literally couldn’t answer the question.
We sort of play like this but better because we have the better midfielders in season 16/17, we just lacked clinical finishers at that time like Kane and Son unfortunately when Zlatan is having his rare months of off day finishing.

Less ego and less pressure seems to do the trick. Also I suppose the players buy Mourinho's ideas and willing to follow his instructions just to break their curse of not winning anything at all. Their last chances to win something and be proud of being there.

I mean we do know there are massive ego players in United who will sulk, moan, complain and cry to their agents whenever they get dropped or played in "out of position" instead of winning back their spot by playing, professionalism, performing, etc. Also "popular" players will be defended and manager to be criticized if the players are not in the starting 11. We know who they are. The ego is there and the pressure is also massive at United. Fans and media will complain all the time. This is a problem starting the second season, of course the manager himself lost to the pressure and generally lacking some emotional support from families eg. him living at hotels, will take a toll on him, and so we see him cracked under pressure. I also think there's something wrong with the current culture at United. Not really surprising seeing the contract situations at United where top 4 is the aim as stipulated in contracts, contract extension is easy to "preserve value", generosity of years given, etc. "The United Way" is just spoken words nowadays, lip service to the public.

Because he didnt have to buy Kane. He didnt have to buy Son.

Absolutely vital players for his tactics.

When you consider who he bought at United - Lukaku and Sanchez you can see a similarity to the way they play football and the way Kane and Son play football that Jose values what he wants to replicate at every club but he simply couldnt get the players right here.

Even when you consider our CB'S like Bailly and Lindelof vs Dier, Vertonghen and Alderweireld- even if they are old, there is a significant basis of players that are already better there even before Jose entered that Jose could and have worked with that Jose didnt have here and didnt buy well here.

That's why i said, Jose will get the credit rightfully for winning the PL (if he does) because ultimately he is a winner but Pochettino and Levy built alot of this squad up to. Compare what Jose did at United when he could literally pick his own starting striker he picked an ageing Zlatan and and average to decent Lukaku and an out of date Sanchez and Matic.

Coming from you
So supporting the manager is toxic? I don't agree with him always but it is a remark on the obvious people with bias against our manager. Surprising they don't get labelled as toxic which they clearly are and he does (both are tbf)

jose is still our best manger post fergie

2 trophies in his first season. 2nd with 81 points in the 2nd season

all with a squad full of fecking squad players

thought he was taking the piss at the time when he said 81points with that squad was his best achievement

TBF alot of fans were deluded thinking that squad shouldve competed for the title. board probably thought the same, idiots.

Shame the board were on a different page to him.

Most of those players still remains and with the likes of Bale, Vinicus, Lo Celso, Doherty, Moura, Lamela, winks, Ali, and even Davis on bench, the squad is easily much stronger now then back then. Only players that left are Vertonghen, Walker, Eriksen, Rose and Dembele, and they got great replacement for those players baring Eriksen. I don't know how this is even debatable. @InLevyITrust, @charlenefan .

But we did play like this for a while, all of his teams do. Its just that he cant sustain it anymore and players fall out of sync with him.
Sorry maybe you misunderstand? I'm not trying to dicsuss the way his team plays. I'm talking about the commitment his players are showing him. He had generals all over the pitch in his Chelsea team, players like Terry, Lampard, Essien, Drogba, Duff, the Porto boys - they would bleed for him. I can see some of these Spurs lads doing the same for him now. I can't remember seeing that quality from our players when he managed us?

Playing style is great if it's entertaining and succesful but Jose has proven with four different teams in four different leauges how to be successful through his tactics.

Pressure should be on him to win the league, his methods and tactics are (as always) being geared towards winning now so onus is on him.

If there's one thing Mourinhos good at, its winning ugly and this covid hit season is perfect for that.
I honestly think if Levy keeps him happy and backs him in the January window, Mourinho might just gift him a Premier league title.
Still glad he's no longer our Manager though.

They play similar to us under him early days. I think we missed having a player like Son.
Martial/Rashford was having that role, but not as good.

They will probably implode next season.

Mourinho masterclass today. Hope he had got the support with us like he did at Spurs. The thing with Mou is he is a man of 2 extremes. If things go right he is very good at building that "us-against-them" mentality. If it doesn't things go southward and pretty quick. With us after the 2nd season it went bad very quick. Can see the same happening at Spurs if results/transfers don't go his way but currently (esp when backed) he is a force to reckon with.

In Spurs he is the boss. In United he wasn't. In Spurs he can drop a player without any fuss. And that is how you get authority among players.

He bought very badly at Utd whereas at Spurs he inherited 2 of the best forwards in the league, and just added a 3rd in Bale (who we should have signed on loan) that has given the whole squad there a huge lift.
Kane and Son in your team is like having a Van Persie and Rooney in their prime upfront.
Jose had no interest in Van Dijk or Maguire as they were not high profile enough when he arrived, he wanted Galactico signings like Varane for 80 Million but when he couldn't get them, went for Lindelof and Bailey instead.
Spent a fortune on Pogba instead of half the money on Premier league proven talent like Kante.
Went for Mkhitaryan instead of PL proven Mane.
Almost every one of his signings were disasters - Lukaku, Pogba, Mkhitaryan, Sanchez, Bailey,
He didn't have the balls to sign rough diamonds or up and coming players and develop them like Mane, Van Dijk, Kante......... And I think he was miserable living in a hotel room.

I want to hate him, but just can't.
That's kinda how I feel. Was so bored during his second season, and the feelings at the beginning of his third season were some of the most negative I've ever seen around United (though the board has a big part of that) but ....I just kind of like him. He's a whinger, a moaner and his teams are negative but he's also an absolute legend, a serial winner, and I think secretly we all miss him when he's not in the premier league

Still playing shit on a stick football. Don’t miss him at all, despite Spurs position in the league.
True. The position is the only positive, and it's not guaranteed that he'll finish first. If he doesn't, then the season wouldn't have been that great.

In essence, the same as when he was with us.

How fuming would you be if it was a head to head between Mourinho and Lampard, and Spurs edged it?

I would agree that he is the Boss at Spurs but not at United. If he had been able to get rid of Pogba and get someone else who knows how things may have turned out?

I said it is almost the same team, but the current team has much better depth. The only lost from that past team was Eriksen else, the current team is much improved on as he is the only player they have not replaced well enough. Which is surprising considering they now have Bale(arguably Spurs best ever player) and lo Celso. Eriksen was really good in his prime under Pochettino

Much rather Spurs win the title than Pool or City. In an ideal world none of them win but you don't always get what you want.

Eh? Im sure if you asked the majority of Spurs fans they would be happy with top four and getting back in the CL. I think a trophy like a League Cup will be seen as a massive boost but I dont think upper management or the general Spurs fanbase will be in an uproar if Jose gets top four and no trophies.

Ok so why is Jose top of the League and Poch was in the bottom half?

He also wanted to get rid of Martial and bench Rashford in favour of a workhorse like Willian. Maybe he would've grinded out another trophy eventually, who knows. I'm happy we didn't sell our soul for his brand of football though.

 is this a joke post? You are nitpicking Jose best run with Pochettino poorest run due to lack of rebuild that mourinho got in the two windows that followed after the depature. The team got the needed strength in depth that increased everyone's level. Pochettino was only in the bottom when his footballing cycle ended, else he was consistently always in the top

Because we are having different brand of football now? :nervous:
