There’s a narrative growing around Liverpool that they are really struggling with injuries this year. They have so many injuries - woe is them.

However, I’d argue that Leicester who they play against today - have far worse injury problems and work on a fraction of their budget.

Hell - we have more injuries at the moment. Yet , has that been mentioned at all by the footy pundits? Nope.

For example -
Both missing an expensive talisman after internationals - Salah/Pogba

Both missing a first choice full back - Shaw/TAA

Both missing an attacking midfielder - Lingard/Oxlade Chamberlain

Both missing some centre backs - Van Dijk/Gomes - Bailly/Jones/Rojo - our CB injuries are actually worse and could have a big impact on our season.

Attacking players wise - Greenwood has missed a month. Jota/Firminio and Origi all seem fine.

We’ve also had Martial banned for daring to be hit in the face and Telles/Cavani/AWB have been in isolation. The Scouse have had a much more fluid preseason than us as well and chose to get in players like Thiago despite his obvious injury record.

Don’t let them get away with using this excuse.

What is it?

It defies logic.

Including Jones and Rojo there is stretching your argument beyond credibility. They never play even when fit.

Without the comparisons, it would be a decent point: Liverpool have a normal amount of injuries that most teams face at one point or another.

The players you have compared are a bit silly tbh.

VVD getting injured is obviously going to impact a team more than the likes of Jones, Rojo and Bailly being injured.

It’s not just the number of players they have injured, it’s the type of players they have injured. They have some key players unavailable and it will impact their season for sure.

Phil Jones has experience of winning the Premier League. I’m sure that just like Van Dijk his organisational skills are key.

Like someone once said “I demand a recount”
It is VVD/Gomez/TAA then it is Thiago/ Henderson/Fabinho/Ox/and Salah
Add three players to that collection of players and you are miles ahead of 75% of teams in the league including yours. But no one’s complaining.

Fabinho and Henderson will probably play today. Even if we accept all your players with us missing:

Pogba, Jones, Rojo, Bailly, Shaw, Greenwood, Lingard.

You have one more player and that includes Ox who is always injured and shouldn’t really count anyway.

Media darlings in media sympathy shocker. The coverage when Van Dijk got injured was staggering.

All the injuries are short term bar VVD and Gomez.

So its really only VVD that is missing from the first team long term.

Every team has short term injuries.

Klopp will just buy a CB in Jan. Problem solved.

They have played poorly since the restart
Haven't you? Haven't we all? It's hard to perform to your TK max during a panda mick whatever your trade, be it plumbing, acting, professional football or troubadouring. Singling out Liverpool FC for abuse is just another form of cism ra.

Leicester have more. They have no excuse tonight, although we know full well that even if they win but play badly, the injury excuse will be used to no end.

Na, Liverpool have dropped levels since they came back. It was swept under the rug of having already won the title but they had the title won by November. Even before the break they fell away when the games piled up.
That form has simply carried on.

The diffence is that Liverpool have a lot of key players injured whereas we don’t really have key players in the first place. If your squad is made up of “squad players” then it will be less notable when one of them gets injured. We need to buy key players and hope they don’t get injured.

I forgot that Salah is out. But I think Jota, Mane, Fabinho and Thiago are eligible to play.

The massive player for them is Mane. He's skilful, athletic asf and has infinite stamina. So they'll still find a way to win if it's bad.

But I think alot of players have actually recovered.

Will be actually interesting to see what the CB combination will be for them if Fabiano dosen't make it, Matip and Phillips? Milner at right back?

Can see it being a high scoring draw.

they have a terrible injury crisis, but they've been so lucky for 3 years running to have no key injuries. Unless they want to pretend AOC was some huge player for them. but that doesn't mean losing their two first choice CBs doesn't constitute a crisis. What if Lindelof and Maguire both got 6+ month injuries?

Thiago won't play today. No sign of him in training this week but hopefully he'll be back soon

Alisson missed loads of games at the start of last season after going off injured in our first one. The drop off between him and Adrian is huge

your player comparisons are ridiculous, the difference is we’ve lost nothing they’ve lost key players.

can any united fan sit there and say with a straight face they’re gutted Pogba, Jones, Rojo, Bailly, Shaw, J.Lingz Are missing (Greenwood being the only one we do miss at RW)

Havnt understood the narrative all week and before the match. Leicester have Castagne, Pereira, Soyuncu and Ndidi out. That's 4 massive players for them all in defensive positions. Everyone talking about betting on Leicester to win and Vardy parties was madness

Just like other posters said, their injuries are short term except Van Dijk & may be Gomez. But Gomez is replaceable since I have seen Fabinho & Matip can do his job but Van Dijk is a big loss. But after watching City played this season, I can’t see City challenging Liverpool even without Van Dijk.

And being honest myself, I don’t think the other teams have better attackers than Liverpool attacks, probably Son & Kane combo are the ones on par with Liverpool attackers but spurs midfield is worse than Liverpool midfield. So Liverpool still has quality players to be the favourite to win the title even without Van Dijk.

Struggling is when you let the problems affected you.

Credit to Liverpool for not really making a meal of their injury and players missing problems and instead respond right with no excuses by players stepping up when their key players are absent.

Shit it's annoying having to praise them, but credit where it's due.

If only we have the same mentality here.. early this season, our players and manager giving subtle hints on no players arriving for their shit performances on the pitch. Also our dear manager also pointing to the lack of home fans for us not stepping up when it counts. And what are the other excuses again? Cultural reboot BS. Oh even worse, our fans still defending the manager and players for being... well.. below standard with creative spin of reasons (fatigue, no pre-season bs, etc) instead of wanting to accept the fact that we are just not good enough because the mentality of players, managing skills and coaching skills are trash from the very start. Ok labelling it as trash is not right, let's just use the word "low standard" overall, I mean sometimes it's good enough to swat teams down when the players felt like it.

You really comparing our centre back injuries to theirs not to mention saying Lingard has been out ?

Because of the style they play they don't need a full strength team to win games. Their style will win them games no matter what.

The idea that this year's PL is the most open ever has been massively overblown. People will be excited for the first few months before Liverpool predictably take charge and win the league much to everyone's disappointment.
